Consumer Complaint: We are currently enrolled to help with our debt with XXXX XXXX One of the companies we enrolled was American Express. In XXXX of XXXX, we started the program with XXXX fiXXXX. We started putting money into our dedicated account XXXX of XXXX BECAUSE we want to pay our debt at a number we can actually afford as retired military. Our first missed payment to AMEX wasnt until mid XXXX. We didnt hit 30 days missed payment till XX/XX/XXXX. Currently in XXXX of XXXX. Only 5 months out. It started with calls and letters which we expected. We directed them to XXXX XXXX and told them we are working on fixing our debt. That they WILL be paid, just please contact the company we are working with to fix this. We understand they want a payment and we havent said we wont. We are just going through a company to do so. Apparently thats an issue. They refused to let us speak, refused the information, cussed us out on numerous occasions and even had a guy who said he represented American Express call us and cuss us out. The last call was in XXXX where a VERY aggressive and loud man was demanding payment and again, refused to take the information on the company we are working with. Ended up having to block the numbers to stop the harassment. We are 5 months out. Thats it. They have refused to work with us or XXXX XXXX and are now trying to sue us. We havent been served, yet we got a letter stating we were being sued that wasnt even certified. The amount that is owed is XXXX XXXX ( That doesnt include the extra fees they have recently added ) Our last payment we made was XX/XX/XXXX at XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX of XXXX. Not once have we said anything negative. We have continuously tried to explain the situation and it sounds like they would much rather harass us than fix the situation and are now creating stress. Theres an old saying, you cant get blood from a turnip. Their fees had gotten higher regardless of making monthly payments, they never once reached out politely and instead were absolutely atrocious. All we are asking is for them to work with XXXX XXXX. Speak to them at least. But they wont. So now Im done trying. They have people coming to our house now harassing us. I have video proof. Whatever info you need, please dont hesitate to contact us so we can get this fixed ASAP. Again, we want to WORK with them. They just refuse to work with us. Im unsure of how to upload the video to here as its 5 minutes long. And the letters I have, AMEX has sent to us. XXXX XXXX has all of our dedicated account information and Im sure can share the program with you. I am attaching our proof of working with our debt as well as the last statement we received.

Consumer Complaint: I opened the American Express Delta Skymiles in XX/XX/2022 for the bonus rewards they were offering to me as I was trying to book a plane ticket. Not only were there bonus miles but also a statement credit. There Terms and condition state " Welcome offer ( s ) may not be available to applicants who have or have had this Card or previous versions of this Card. American Express may also consider the number of American Express Cards you have opened and closed as well as other factors in making a decision on your offer eligibility. If an offer is not available to you, we will notify you prior to processing your application so you have the option to withdraw your application ''. I did previously have an American Express card which had been closed for a while but I never received " notification prior to proceeding that the offer was not available to me. '' I would not have proceeded as the card has an annual fee. To me, by opening the account, they had concluded I was eligible. I called and they basically said the reason I did not get the rewards was because I was ineligible which provides nothing. Due to other circumstances, I had been one day late on payment where they charged me a late fee, interest for the entire month and then continuously as they removed the general grace period on normal charges without any notice which was so ridiculous I decided to just cancel the card. The retention person then somehow got more information as to why I was not given the rewards which was apparently due to me having an American Express rewards card that was NOT a Delta card. Per their terms and conditions, if that was the case, they should have informed me before opening the account. They really played the bait and switch and barely could communicate why I was not eligible, go above and beyond to whack you with every fee under the sun and charge you as much interest as possible. I didn't even need or want the card but due to the rewards thought it could be beneficial. Due to American Express shady business practices I got no rewards and charged about $ XXXX in fees and interest.

Consumer Complaint: Today, XX/XX/2023, after receiving a call from American Express this week and a letter last night regarding an application for an AMEX, I called AMEX and told them I had not applied for any card. This was not me. I thought the phone call I received earlier this week was bogus, but when I received a letter from AMEX, I was very concerned that someone was using my identity fraudulently. I spoke to XXXX and another man at AMEX who put FRAUD on the application and escalated the issue to the High Risk team, then I called XXXX to let them know to remove the inquiry from my credit report due to the above. XXXX 's rep told me to file a complaint here, and so I am. Thank you for all your help and for reporting this to the other credit reporting agencies.

Issue: Fees or interest
Subissue: Problem with fees
Consumer Complaint: First, this matter has already been resolved, but I am concerned that something similar might repeat. I respect American Express and I want to ensure that appropriate channels are aware of potential problems in certain areas of the company. I believe that going through the CFPB is the surest way of contacting the most reliable people in American Express who truly have the companys best interests at heart. Today ( XX/XX/2023 ) I became aware through a random advertisement that my XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX might carry an annual fee. I then used the AmEx app to determine whether there was an annual fee. I could not locate the appropriate information, but I saw that there was a chat feature in the app. I then asked for confirmation about whether my card carried a fee. However, because I was still uncertain about their answer ( they did not seem to completely understand me ), I requested a copy of the original card terms. The person refused to share the terms with me after I asked twice. It was then only after I mentioned a potential violation of federal regulations that they provided a link to a PDF with the cards terms. Even though the PDF was not the terms for my specific situation, I assume it was close enough. I was astonished by the refusal to provide the credit cards terms upon a reasonable request.
