Issue: Problem when making payments
Subissue:
Consumer Complaint: My personal loan payment of {$450.00} per month was due on XX/XX/XXXX. I paid through my bank and it was paid by the bank on XX/XX/XXXX. I started getting emails from American Express stating that my payment was overdue. After three of those, I received an email stating they would report it to the credit agencies. I called and they said they would take care of it. I have called him a total of three times. Yesterday XX/XX/XXXX I called and they said there was a problem with processing on XX/XX/XXXX the date on which I paid. Its hard to believe after 20 calendar days they can not fix this. Now my American Express credit card is locked and I get Im getting rejections on purchases made on that credit card. They keep trying to tell me theyre there helping me but they are not and now Im going to get reported to a credit agency, and I have to go through a lot of trouble paying these bounces with other credit cards. An AMEX person called XXXX told me that if I get reported to the credit agency they will fix it. I do not believe them. I believe something is happening in their system and for some reason they can not fix it and keep telling me they will. XXXX said she was going to call me Friday, XX/XX/XXXX but she did not.

Consumer Complaint: I am writing to file a formal complaint against American Express Services for their unjustifiable restriction on referring a friend to their services. I believe this practice not only limits customer choice but also violates the principles of fair competition and consumer rights. I kindly request the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau ( CFPB ) to investigate this matter thoroughly and take appropriate action to address this concern. I have been a loyal American Express cardholder for several years and have always been satisfied with the company 's services. Recently, I attempted to refer a friend to American Express Services, as part of their referral program, which rewards both the referrer and the referee for joining the American Express family. To my disappointment, I was informed that I was not eligible to participate in the referral program. This restriction is not only frustrating but also raises concerns about the fairness and transparency of American Express 's practices. As a customer, I should have the right to refer my friends to a service I have had a positive experience with, and both parties should have the opportunity to benefit from the referral program. Restricting customers from participating in the referral program without any valid reason or explanation feels unjust and against the principles of consumer choice. I firmly believe that such restrictive practices limit competition and hinder the ability of consumers to freely choose the financial services that best suit their needs. The referral program should be an open and inclusive opportunity for customers to share their positive experiences with others and receive rewards for their loyalty. By denying customers the ability to refer friends, American Express is effectively preventing potential customers from benefiting from their services and impeding fair competition. Therefore, I kindly request the CFPB to investigate this matter and take appropriate action to ensure that American Express Services reassesses their policy regarding the referral program. I urge the CFPB to emphasize the importance of consumer choice, fair competition, and transparency in financial service practices. Consumers should have the freedom to refer friends to the services they trust and receive rewards for their loyalty without arbitrary restrictions. I have attached relevant documentation, including correspondence with American Express customer service, to support my complaint. I hope that you will thoroughly investigate this matter and take appropriate action to protect consumer rights and promote fair competition within the financial services sector. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt response. Sincerely,

Consumer Complaint: Account ending in XXXX. On XX/XX/2023, I requested a credit balance refund of {$5000.00}. According to Amex, a check was mailed to me on the same day. Its been more than 3 weeks and I still haven't received the check. I contacted customer service to void the check and issue another one. My request was denied. I received a secured message on XX/XX/2023, saying that they cant issue a credit balance refund as my account is under review. However, I neither received the check nor was the credit re-deposited to my account. I don't know where my money is exactly at this point. Ive been trying to get a credit balance refund from Amex since XX/XX/2023 without success. Under 12 CFR 1026.11, Amex is required to refund any part of the remaining credit balance within 7 business days from receipt of a written request from the consumer.

Consumer Complaint: I, the consumer and natural person was denied an extension of my credit by American Express Company after I submitted an application in good faith for a Platinum Card. Adverse action is against a consumer is AGAINST THE LAW according to The Equal Credit Opportunity Act which is codified in 15 USC 1691c and is pursuant to civil liability under 15 USC 1692k. American Express Company is in violation of 15 U.S. Code 1642, U.S. Code 1681m, and 12 car 1002 because I, the consumer made an application in good faith, but credit was not issued. Consumer Complaint: In late XXXX, I purchased a television off the Internet. It arrived about a week later however, the person that sold it to me sent a different television that had a broken screen. I opened up a return with the vendor, and sent the television back, but I never received a refund. I filed a dispute for this charge in the amount of {$1200.00} on XX/XX/XXXX of XXXX. American Express removed the charge for my account, and then re-charge my account without authorization about two months later. This is because the vendor provided evidence to American Express that claims that a different television was received. I believe this evidence was falsified so they could attempt to retain the disputed amount fraudulently. I am very dissatisfied with American Express for accepting this evidence is genuine.
