Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer
Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled
Consumer Complaint: AES will not permit my daughter or me to set up automatic payments because they do not have an autopay program for students who are not in repayment and are instead only paying interest. Interest payments are just as difficult to remember to make each month. AES has reported us to the credit bureaus for being days late on making small ( $ XXXX {$50.00} ) interest payment. It is customary in the industry for a legitimate loan servicer to offer ACH aka autopay on all payments due. Perhaps AES does this in order to earn fees for late payments? There are no other logical reasons why they would not offer autopay on interest only payments.

Consumer Complaint: In XX/XX/2022 I received XXXX notices of loan forgiveness, however, I dispute the calculation of payments that qualify for a refund. After multiple calls with my loan servicer ( Fed Loan Servicing ) from XXXX to XXXX that did not resolve the issue, I filed XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX through the XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX site on XX/XX/XXXX. To date I have not received as status update, nor can I determine where I can find out the status. A copy of my Reconsideration Request is attached. On July 21st, I spent more than 3 hours on the phone with Fed Loan Servicing, XXXX, and Federal Student Aid trying to determine who has my information. Fed Loan Servicing said I need to call Federal Student Aid ; XXXX doesn't even have me in their system and told me to call Federal Student Aid ; and representatives in the XXXX XXXX XXXX Forgiveness and Discharge department told me the loan servicers are handling reconsideration requests. I note that XXXX hosts the reconsideration form on its site and sent the confirmation email I received immediately after I filed the request, so I expect XXXX to know what is going on with my request. On XX/XX/XXXX, I submitted a formal complaint on the XXXX website. On XX/XX/XXXX, I received an email that did not acknowledge my specific concern but provided information I ALREADY HAD AND USED for Fed Loan Servicing and XXXX and stated my case was closed. On XX/XX/XXXX, I filed a complaint with the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency ( PHEAA ) Office of Consumer Advocacy using my Fed Loan Servicing access. As you will see in the attached email correspondence, they continue to evade my question about the Reconsideration Request and provide me information as if they have not read my complaints. I am EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED to learn NO ONE seems to know who is handling PSLF Reconsideration Requests and even more worried that no one is reviewing what is filed. Furthermore, I believe I am still owed {$2500.00}.

Consumer Complaint: I am writing to state how horrid the communication has been on student debt relief and how screwed over many of us are now. I graduated in 2005... I have stafford loans, the same ones my husband has who just graduated... BUT because of when I went to school - mine are apparently commercially held... something I was not even aware of until recently. When questioning studentaid.gov by phone on what I need to do- I was specifically told to hold off as XXXX XXXX XXXX is working with privately held XXXX loans on the one time loan forgiveness... well now XXXX XXXX XXXX states any loans not consolidated by XX/XX/XXXX WILL NOT be eligible. Even when I called XX/XX/XXXX- I was told- they are still looking into it but today everything states basically we are being exlcuded. The people who have been paying on loans for 15 years, never missed a payment ... literally {$25000.00} just in interest but because I graduated a few years earlier than some and XXXX took over the same loan type I have- I get nothing. I was given BAD information and now I am screwed out of {$10000.00} - and I am livid .... Something needs to be done about this as I am sure many are in my same boat and it is crazy that kids that havent even started paying towards their loans will get this help and those that have paid off huge chunks get nothing...

Consumer Complaint: I paid off my student loans to a {$0.00} balance. My issues are that I was never notified the loans were in default and assigned to collections. I also have issues with the monthly statements I paid one month and the very next month showing 60 days late. Consumer Complaint: I have two student loans in repayment with AES. One is subsidized, the other is unsubsidized. I have been paying on these two loans through AES for about XXXX years. For the first XXXX years or so, they would apply my monthly payment to both loans. One loan amount is larger than the other. The larger loan had a corresponding larger amount of my payment applied to it. However, around the beginning of this year, XXXX, I noticed that they stopped applying my payments to both loans. AES started to only apply my payment to one loan, thus letting the interest just build and build on the other loan. This would mean that I would never finish paying of my loans, as one just continued to grow rather than getting paid down. On their website, they do provide a page in which it states that I can choose which loan to make a payment towards, or how to apply my payment to my different loans. However, They group my two loans together, so I can only make a payment on both of them at the same time. But, again, they stopped applying my payment to both loans. They only apply it to one, and let interest build on the other. Thus making me pay much more in the long run and increasing the total amount of money they will receive from me in the long run. I have called them once and emailed them through their website 3 times about this. They have gone back and changed how my payments were applied. However, they continue to not apply my payments towards one of the two loans. In my emails I have asked them to apply my payments to both loans. I have asked them to go back to applying my payments the way they used to. I have told them that I am not able to choose how much of each payment go to which loan because they have the two loans lumped into one payment. I have pointed out to them that they are ripping me off and that they are unethically changing the way the apply my payments in order to make more money for themselves in the long run. They have corrected the previous payments after I contact them each time. But they are seemingly refusing to go back to applying my payments they way they used to. And they are seemingly refusing to go back to applying the payments I have repeatedly requested them to. So, if I don't pay attention each month and message them, I will just rack up interest upon interest on one of my loans and end up paying them a lot more money than if they would apply my payments to both loans as I have requested them to do and as they used to do. For instance, I made a payment on XX/XX/XXXX. I'm not 100 % sure on the amount, but I believe it was a {$650.00} payment. For this {$650.00} payment, they applied it all to only one of my two loans, despite both loans being selected to pay towards. This now leaves the loan that they did not apply any portion of my payment to with about {$190.00} in interest, on top of the principal. They are doing this on purpose so that this amount continues to increase and I never pay that loan down. Can you help me so that this unethical company can't keep trying to steal money from me?

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2022 I called FedLoan Servicing to request that my student loan payments made on XX/XX/2022 ( totaling {$21000.00} ) be refunded to me since they were made during the Covid-19 federal forbearance period. They told me they submitted the request and it would take 2-8 weeks. It's far too wide of an estimate initially and it has also already been 6 weeks. My husband already received his refund from his student loan servicer and there's no excuse for it to take this long. On top of it all I called them today to get an updated status and their primary phone number didn't allow me to get ahold of an actual agent. There was no option that pertained to why I was calling nor was there an option to get ahold of the operator.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2022 I started dispute processes with XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX to dispute the XXXX open Fedloan Servicing accounts that were still showing as open since XX/XX/2022, although my loans were transferred to XXXX starting in XX/XX/2022. XXXX is showing my loans as consolidated on all three credit bureau 's, which is correct. My issue is with Fedloan Servicing who's loan transferring process is inadequate as they have failed to properly update my credit reports with the three credit bureau 's. I called Fedloan Servicing in mid XXXX prior to XX/XX/XXXX and requested they correct this information as it should have been done after transferring my loans to XXXX. Fedloan Servicing has a very time consuming process of printing a form to correct credit issues and mailing it back. This should have been done as apart of the loan transfer process. So I decided to go directly through the credit bureau 's for a faster result, XXXX and XXXX have properly updated my credit report to zero out the balances with Fedloan Servicing and closed the accounts. XXXX has failed to correct my credit report because Fedloan Servicing is reporting to them that I still have a balance with them and that the account is still open, this is false, although my Fedloan Servicing website dashboard shows loan balance as {$0.00}, Fedloan Servicing is still reporting inaccurate information as if my student loans are still held by them and their not.
