Issue: Problem with a credit reporting company's investigation into an existing problem

Subissue: Their investigation did not fix an error on your report

Consumer Complaint: I recently rehabbed my student loans, and Fed Loan Servicing transferred and updated my accounts with the new servicers. They removed all but XXXX, and left the 120 days delinquencies when they have removed all others. I had over 16 accounts, and when I disputed these accounts, they came back verified when they no longer exist.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Need information about your loan balance or loan terms

Consumer Complaint: My student loan servicer is FedLoan ( PHEAA ). I applied for a refund of my student loan payments made during the payment pause. I requested a refund on XX/XX/XXXX. This refund request was for my last payment of {$21000.00} made on XX/XX/XXXX. I have not heard a word back from FedLoan regarding this refund. I have sent follow up emails to them and have not gotten a response. I know there are a lot of these refund requests but there seems to be no order or organization to this. I know people who requested a refund of multiple payments, and they requested it weeks after I requested it. However, they have had their loan balance reinstated as well as refunds of payments sent already received. Meanwhile I'm only requesting refund of ONE payment of {$21000.00} made on XX/XX/XXXX. The refund scenario can't get any simpler than a single payment refund. I understand that many people requested refunds before me, but many more than that have requested refunds FAR after me and for way more payments and have a received theirs. I can't even get an accurate date of when the refund request was sent to the Treasury or if it was sent at all. I can't get a response to my email inquiry. I can't get an accurate date ( s ) for processing or anything. I can't get any information from FedLoan ( PHEAA ).

Subissue: Problem with customer service

Consumer Complaint: I was under the impression that my student loans were under the forbearance that was extended until the end of the year XXXX XXXX XXXX. I never received any communication from AES about my loan payments starting back up again. I use paperless billing and never got an email or a phone call about this. The only reason I realized what had happened was I got XXXX or XXXX emails in a day from my credit reporting agency that my credit had been lowered. Checking my score revealed that it dropped XXXXXXXX XXXX Devastated, I contacted AES and spoked with a Customer Service Rep. who said that they sent out emails and letters, but I never received them. I checked my trash thinking I deleted them by mistake. No, there wasn't a single email stating my account was past due. I use my phone a lot for my job and receive numerous phone calls. I never received a voicemail stating that my account was past due or that they would be taking action on my credit report. When I asked if there was maybe something they could do, because I was never informed she flat out refused and said that it would it ruin the integrity of the credit reporting companies if they did. I think it's egregious that I was never informed and the only way I found out was through my credit company letting me know that my account took a massive hit. XXXXXXXX XXXX that's ridiculous, especially after I took my time and care to build it back up after being affected by the pandemic. There was no sympathy or willingness to help someone who clearly needed. It's companies like this who have preyed upon people and don't have anything done to them.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Problem with customer service

Consumer Complaint: Two days after the broad student loan forgiveness was announced, I called my current student loan provider, XXXX, to get a refund of the payments I made during the pandemic. They calculated the payments to be a little over {$10000.00} and confirmed they can refund the amount. A week later I called back as instructed to check on the status of my refund and the representative assured me that it is being processed. A couple weeks after that I get a refund in my account of {$100.00} rather than the $ XXXX that was initially confirmed by the representative I was speaking to, which prompts me to call back to inquire about the remaining refund amount. I was told for the first time that they are unable to refund loans that were paid to my previous servicer so I will need to contact them, which I promptly did. From there I was sent back and forth between loan servicers multiple times. Both promising they can refund and when I call back due to inaction, both pointing the finger at the other, with the representative having no real information. MyFedLoan kept telling me they don't have any record of the loans I paid off with them. I was finally escalated to a supervisor with MyFedLoan who told me that my previous loans are in the middle of being transferred to XXXX, she told me she thinks my refund request triggered that action. When I called XXXX with this information, I was promised a {$1000.00} refund and when I called back about that a week later I'm told there is no record of that refund on my account. I have called MyFedLoan numerous times to reinstate and refund the loans I paid off during the pandemic. MyFedLoan refuses to reinstate and refund the loans I paid during the pandemic, which I am entitled to do under the CARES Act. Their reasoning is that they do not have any record of the loans that I paid off, despite providing me with the records. My current loan provider says they are unable to refund any payments made to my previous servicer.

Consumer Complaint: I spoke with my fed loan on XX/XX/22 about getting a refund on payments I made during the COVID forbearance, when I called back on XX/XX/22, they said they never put in the request. Balance is still not updated to reflect reinstatement of loan with the refund.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Need information about your loan balance or loan terms

Consumer Complaint: I requested a student loan refund due to the Cares Act on XX/XX/22. I have reached out to MyFedLoan Servicing a few times and each time, I receive different information about my student loan refund. I called a few weeks ago ( XX/XX/22 ), and the representative told me that my request was approved and it is being processed for payment. I called again today to get a status update ( XX/XX/22 ) and the representative ( XXXX ) said that the refund request was still pending and has not been approved. I would like more accurate information about the refund request from the representatives so I can understand how long this process will take.

Consumer Complaint: I went to XXXX website and applied for a consolidation loan for my privately held FFELP student loans held by AES. Both originated in XXXX. We are legally able to consolidate privately held FFEL loans. AES is refusing to allow the consolidation. XXXX is not responding to the consolidation application that was sent by the student aid website. I need my FFELP consolidated. I applied in early XXXX before the federal government made the deadline cutoff for this consolidation of XX/XX/XXXX. I made the application before this time in early XX/XX/XXXX. I DO qualify for consolidation AND FORGIVENESS into federal direct loans. Please force the banks and servicers to comply with federal law and allow this consolidation. That would be very nice. Thank you, XXXX XXXX

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled

Consumer Complaint: Hello! I requested a {$10000.00} refund from MyFedLoan on around XX/XX/2022 for payments made during the pandemic. This continues to be pending and there has been no update despite almost two months of waiting. I've called MyFedLoan multiple times and they give me different timelines each time or say they don't have a timeline. It should be noted, I currently have a {$10000.00} balance that was transferred from MyFedLoan to XXXX. Both XXXX and MyFedLoan have said to request the {$10000.00} in payments made to MyFedLoan during the pandemic from MyFedLoan. Any help would be much appreciated. Unfortunately, the payment history of these loans is not on MyFedLoan or XXXX websites for some reason..
