Issue: Closing an account
Subissue: Fees charged for closing account
Consumer Complaint: I attempted to close my checking account with US Bank on XX/XX/XXXX. I went to my local branch to do this, and was told that my account would be closed. My account was not closed. Because the account was not closed, I was charged monthly service fees. There were no funds in the account to pay for the service fees, so a linked line of credit was used for overdraft protection. I wasn't aware of this happening, and I wasn't monitoring the account, because I was told that the account was closed by my local branch. After a few months, I found out about this issue through a credit monitoring service because my credit has been damaged. I called US Bank and spoke with a number of customer service reps, eventually having tickets opened to resolve the issue. US Banks resolution was to send my account to collections. I eventually payed their ransom. In all, closing my account cost hundreds of dollars and did years worth of damage to my credit. The account was finally closed in XXXX, XXXX.

Consumer Complaint: My original complaint with CFPB was # XXXX. The money is still not accessible. on XXXX I contacted the Fraud Dept again to ask when I could expect the resolution because the letter received said they were still awaiting the investigation from another bank. Well, after waiting for some time the representative came back and told me to go to a branch and they would pay me out of the funds because they account has been closed. I went to a branch and the Manager told me that there are no notes on the account to support a payout and asked that I contact them again. I called the Fraud Dept again, told them the situation, waited for some time again to be told by the representative the account was still under investigation. Consequently, could not get the money. Today, XXXX I looked at my account and found the bank received and deposited a check for {$12000.00} into that account XXXX that had been hacked before. There has to be something that can be done.

Consumer Complaint: I was given a {$100.00} XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX purchased from XXXX in the XXXX, Ohio area. This card was loaded on XX/XX/XXXX. I registered the card online at XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX and learned that it had only a {$1.00} balance on it. I called the customer service number on the back of the prepaid gift card XXXX and they told me that this card was used prior to my registration of the card at two XXXX XXXX XXXX. One in XXXX XXXX, California and then at XXXX, California. One purchase was {$43.00} and other was {$55.00}, these total {$99.00}. The customer service said this happened due to a breech in XXXX 's systems where in these gift card information was stolen. However, the customer service said I had to fill out a " dispute form '' to get my {$99.00} back. I asked them shouldn't they fill out the " dispute form '' as they are the ones with all of the information noting that I am the one with the physical XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. They said their requirement was that I complete the " dipute form ''. Further, their investigation might take up to 90 days and even if successful they would then mail me a replacement. I question why I should have to wait 90 plus days when the customer service people are well aware of this fraud and should be replacing my {$99.00} immediately?

We requested a discharge back in early XXXX XXXX of XXXX in anticipation of selling my home and did not receive confirmation of the discharge but rather that " it would be processed and completed. Now XXXX ( XXXX ) years later, MANY emails and calls to US Bank, XXXX and XXXX XXXX with promises that the mortgage would be discharged and recorded. It is now almost two months since the closing date of XX/XX/XXXX and we still have not received a discharge for the XXXX mortgage. I have written to US Bank as well as my attorney and now am receiving radio silence. I let them know last Monday, XX/XX/XXXX that if they did not respond by XX/XX/XXXX, I would be filing this complaint and I still have not received a response.
