Issue: Problem with fraud alerts or security freezes
Subissue:
Consumer Complaint: I was told by TransUnion Credit Bureau back in XX/XX/XXXX that I could not freeze and unfreeze my credit using my pin number that I created because they no longer use that method. I had to answer questions about my file in order to freeze and unfreeze. In XX/XX/XXXX I tried to obtain credit, but my Transunion Credit Bureau report was frozen. Therefore, I had to call them to unfreeze. I was then told that I had answered verification questions too many times that I could not unfreeze my credit. I became frustrated that I could not unfreeze my credit report. On XX/XX/XXXX, received a call from a Transunion Representative who said that I had to send a letter stating that I need maintenance for my credit file. Include a copy of my identification and social security card and File XXXX XXXXXXXX and mail to their office. The representative stated that by doing this, this will enable me to freeze and unfreeze my credit report online. Well, I did as the representative told me to do on XX/XX/XXXX. I received a letter from Transunion on XX/XX/XXXX, stating that Transunion is unable to process my request, or my request was illegible. I called Transunion on XX/XX/XXXX, and told a representative of my problem. She had given me a new case number XXXX and said that someone will call me in 5 business days. Friday XX/XX/XXXX, I received a credit report from Transunion that I did not request. I still have not received a phone call nor have not been able to obtain credit due to the freeze on my report as of XX/XX/XXXX. Also, as of XX/XX/XXXX, I am not able to freeze/unfreeze my credit file online as promised.
