Consumer Complaint: Hello, I had a credit card from Gap by Synchrony Bank for more than a year. I've made all of my payments on time and that last payment scheduled on XX/XX/2022 for {$1600.00} didn't go through because I didn't realize I had a card on file for auto payments that didn't have enough funds to process it. Automatically 7 days after the transaction, the bank decided to close my account which now is affecting my credit score and history. I think this is very unfair and I would like to be able to fix it.

Subissue: Card was charged for something you did not purchase with the card
Consumer Complaint: I had a XXXX XXXX XXXX account through Synchrony Bank. I was make automatic payments for my XXXX XXXX XXXX via this account. Somehow, on multiple occasions, the account was used for fraudulent charges AFTER I had paid off the account. Upon the first time calling Synchrony, they cleared the fraudulent charges. Then, it happened again. At this time, I had paid the phone off, and was no longer using the phone, or the associated email address as I had moved on to using a newer XXXX. The account started withdrawing automatic payments from my account, to pay for these fraudulent charges. Synchrony has made no attempt to repay these payments to me, and since the email address, and mailing address they had on file were no longer valid, they could not get ahold of me ( they never tried calling, or validating my email, or mailing address ) and sent the account off to collections. Over the course of 6 months, after many " fraud '' reports via Synchrony bank, and multiple times of them telling me that they felt the charges were valid, Synchrony finally this past XXXX of 2021, determined that these charges were in fact ALL fraudulent. I never had a credit card issued to me for this account, as it was JUST for my phone, and there was no way I could have made these charges. But, sadly, they had already sold the account to XXXX XXXX XXXX. I have a letter, in hand, from Synchrony, that shows that their fraud team has determined that these charges were fraudulent, but XXXX XXXX XXXX says that this is not enough, and will not remove these charges from my credit report until I file an official complaint, notarize it, file a police report, etc. It's really just a nightmare, and meanwhile, I am having a difficult time buying a car, and a home, for my young family. This is very frustrating. XXXX XXXX XXXX will not stop harrassing me, and now I am following my due diligence of doing what they have asked and filing a report on this website and notarizing it, etc. Again, I have the letter from Synchrony in hand, and a digital version of it ( printed and digital ) that says that these charges were in fact fraudulent. But, XXXX XXXX XXXX will not comply.

Issue: Advertising and marketing, including promotional offers
Subissue: Didn't receive advertised or promotional terms
Consumer Complaint: Synchrony Bank Lowe 's Credit Card Promotional Purchases The Lowe's/Synchrony Bank has a random order process for allocating payments to multiple interest-free promotions. Payments may be applied differently from the order of expiring promotion dates such that both Regular Purchases and/or ending promotions may not be paid ahead of later promotions based on unstated rules. In order to insure that payments are processed such that each promotion gets a portion of the payment based on the remaining months left before reaching the expiration divided into the total purchase price outstanding, they use other unspecified criteria that could cause a customer to be charged late fees and interest payments. In speaking with the Customer Service and the Client Affairs Specialist, controlled allocation mathematically can't be done with the " system '' that they use, which should be a Data Processing Computer programmed for Retail Commerce. In order to allocate funds to each outstanding promotional balance, after making the payment, the customer has to contact a Client Affairs Specialist with specific allocations by promotion. This is an absurd way for any bank to operate because it steals time away from customers to do trivial work best done by computer.
