Issue: Managing an account
Subissue: Banking errors
Consumer Complaint: I opened a joint savings account for myself and my husband at Synchrony Bank in XX/XX/XXXX. For this account, I was able to complete required disclosures online. At that time, I also opened XXXX savings accounts for my minor children at Synchrony Bank. I was unable to open the children 's accounts online, so I had to call the bank. Because of this, the bank had to mail physical paper signature cards to me to sign on behalf of my children. I signed them and mailed them back in XXXX of XXXX. The cards were rejected because the scanner could not " see '' the teal ink of my pen. I was sent a letter that they didn't receive the signature cards, no other explanation. I uploaded new signature cards for each child to the Synchrony Bank website, as instructed by a telephone rep. The signature card for XXXX child was processed, but the other XXXX children were not processed. I received no indication that anything was wrong until I received XXXX for each child in XX/XX/XXXX that there was backup withholding being taken from the interest payments on their accounts. There was no indication of backup withholding on any of the children 's statements, and no letter or phone call ever alerted me that this was occurring. In late XXXX of XXXX, I began trying to solve the issue and get the backup withholding removed. After several phone calls, Synchrony Bank finally explained to me that the scanner that received the original signature cards for the children 's accounts did not detect the ink from my pen. I asked them to pull the original documents and re-scan them, and I was told that the signature cards are destroyed immediately upon scanning, so this could not be done. I was also told that the backup withholding had not been removed from my children 's accounts, and that they could not tell me why. I was asked to re-upload the signature cards for the XXXX children that were inexplicably not processed. I did that in XXXX of XXXX, and upon calling back on XX/XX/XXXX, was informed that the second set of signature cards did not have the correct naming convention printed on them ( DUE TO BANK ERROR ) and that they would need new signature cards from me... again... and that the backup withholding wouldn't be removed until they had them. In addition, I received XXXX letters in XX/XX/XXXX, addressed to the minor children ( not to me, the adult on the accounts ) that they needed substitute XXXX because Synchrony Bank XXXX XXXX their TINs were incorrect. Again, the children clearly can not sign these. Synchrony 's banking practices surrounding backup withholding are deceptive in that you receive no notice, can't get it corrected in a timely manner, and the statements give ABSOLUTELY NO INDICATION that it is occurring.

Consumer Complaint: I received several emails from banks verifying that several accounts were being reviewed I did not apply for. Specifically a checking and credit card account with XXXX XXXX, and credit card accounts from XXXX XXXX XXXX, Synchrony Bank, and XXXX XXXX. I also saw inquiries were processed on my XXXX account. These primarily happened on XX/XX/XXXX. I spent much of XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX contacting the companies and letting them know the applications were fraudulent.

Consumer Complaint: In XX/XX/2022, as I was filling out a PayPal Credit application, PayPal claims I opted into a security protection program that I have no recollection of enrolling. I feel the option must have either been pre-selected or otherwise not abundantly clear. My husband is helping me with this as I speak limited English. But I absolutely did not intentionally enroll in this program. I only recently became aware ( yesterday ) that I was being charged for it, and when I realize what was happening, I immediately canceled online. I contacted PayPal Credit, who referred me to Synchrony Bank, which apparently administers the program. I explained what had happened, and asked for a refund of the previous months ' charges, and they refused saying the cancelation came more than 90 days after enrollment. I tried to explain that I have no recollection of enrolling, but they say I did. Had I known they were charging me within the window, I would have canceled. Even though I didn't, since it's mid XXXX, and they say I enrolled in XXXX, I can't be that far out of the XXXX window. I feel they are taking advantage of me, and are not being reasonable given the circumstances. I am in enough debt already, and this represents a sizable amount of money. Can you please help me?

Consumer Complaint: Syncrony has single handedly destroyed my credit. i had a pay pal mastercard from syncrony, disputed an obvious duplicate charge, two mos later i paid this card in full to a XXXX balance. this same day they did a chargeback of 150 and closed my account. i had never been late on a payment but i requested paper copies of all my statements when i paid off the balance, they were never sent of course and have tried several dozen times to contact syncrony but none of their cs reps can do anything with a closed acct, which now has a balance of 577 due to all the penalty fees they continue adding after it was closed. then they sent mye to collections and i was hopeful it would be resolved. The man investigated what i told him had happened and i got a letter from him to call but when i called the collection company yesterday i was informed they no longer could help me and said syncrony had recalled my debt due to error so i could contact them..it is impossible to speak to anyone who has any knowledge or authority at syncrony,. every phone call is an hour long and all they do is give u a different phone number to call and same person answers. this morning i got XXXX notification they are now reporting a new delinquent acct on my report. im very upset. this is the only company i have issues with and every acct i have with them is terribly wrong

Consumer Complaint: I tried to log in to my Amazon Store Card Synchrony Bank and access my account but I was forced to agree to some online terms. There was nothing else clickable on their site to continue to my account except " agree ''. Then I was locked out of my account due to " we are having technical difficulties please try again later ''. This went on for weeks. I could not access my account online at all and I needed my balance to pay the card. The account worked fine the months before. Customer service wanted my to alter my computer settings to log in and I refused. No other financial institution that I do business with does this. Finally I was allowed to know my balance and the card was paid but I still have no access to statements, fees, alerts, settings, or balances! The same issues constantly happen when I try to log in, I am forced to click " agree '' then I get the same error stating THEY are having technical difficulties not me on my end.
