Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed
Subissue: Debt was paid
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I was charged {$71.00} by XXXX and on XX/XX/XXXX I was also charged {$34.00} by the same company. I set it up where this is charged automatically to my Paypal Credit account each year for renewal purposes. With Paypal Credit, individual charges over {$100.00} qualify for a 6-month interest fee special financing program which I have done for years with Paypal on those kinds of purchases. Any amount under {$100.00} do not qualify for that and must be paid before the next billing cycle, or incur high interest charges. I make my payments online and Paypal does not give the option to specify which debt you want to pay towards/off. The site automatically determines that based on which one will be due the soonest. With that being said, since those 2 charges totaling {$100.00} are due before the next billing cycle which is XX/XX/XXXX ( told by one of their representatives when I called about this on XX/XX/XXXX ), I paid the total amount on XX/XX/XXXX. When I checked the account to make sure it was applied to those 2 charges, I saw that it was instead applied to one of the " special financing '' charges that isn't expired until XX/XX/XXXX. When I called and spoke to a representative, she even agreed that they would normally apply to what is due the soonest which would have been the 2 charges that were under the {$100.00}. She also stated that in order to specify where it should have been applied, I would have had to call Paypal to make the payment. She then advised she would send the case to their " Reallocation Team '' as she was not authorized t do so and that I would hear from them by XX/XX/XXXX. With the new billing cycle being XX/XX/XXXX, I am in no way confident that they will make any attempts to resolve as we all know interest is the way these companies make money and as far as I am concerned, that is the reason they didn't apply my payment as they were supposed to. I find these practices to be very unethical, especially during these times of inflation and financial hardships in the country. Even if nothing comes out of this complaint for me, I definitely want it public so consumers are aware of their practices before using them for purchases. I've attached pictures of the charges, the payment made, and the special financing schedule. They applied my payment to the XXXX charge that now has a remaining balance of {$320.00} when it should reflect a charge of {$430.00}.

Consumer Complaint: My Experian credit report shows increasing charges each month from SYNCB/PPC for delinquent payments for an account which I do not own. I opened an account with Pay Pal back in XXXX but was never able to get it to work. That is the only account I have ever opened with Pay Pal. When I spoke to XXXX, they said this account was opened in XXXX. That was NOT me. It has caused my excellent credit score to plummet. I contacted the number associated with this report and SYNCB/PPC and was told by multiple people that they didn't know what this was because I have a balance of XXXX . I have filed a fraud alert with XXXX. I also contacted XXXX again yesterday and talked with a lady because now the XXXX report shows the the payment status is Charged off. The XXXX lady said that would also bring my credit score down. I am at my wits end. I have tried everything I know to resolve this issue. I have always maintained a excellent credit score until this mess started. I have also contacted my bank and asked them to check into what I needed to do. She has tried several avenues and has had no luck figuring this out. Please help!!!!!! Another thing that is very interesting about this is that I have never received a bill or a statement or any communications about these charges until it started showing up on my XXXX account.

Issue: Problem when making payments
Subissue: Problem during payment process
Consumer Complaint: In XX/XX/23 ( 14 days elapsed today ) I paid the total balance of my card, my money was debited from my bank account, but my credit limit, 2 weeks later, still doesn't reflects the payment. Synchrony has been using my cash for two weeks, without reflecting the payment in the available credit. Bear in mind that my payment was a money transfer from a bank account to Synchrony, we are not talking here about waiting for the clearing of the fund, which is the excuse that Synchrony use. " Since it is a significant amount we put a hold in the application of the payment ''. The funds must be cleared at least 10 days ago. In the meantime, Synchrony is withholding a debt that does not exist to charge interests eventually. I think that the CFPB should consider this ilegal appropiation of funds, not just to receive a superficial, non valid answer as to the waiting period to apply a payment. In summary this should be considered as appropiation

Consumer Complaint: Hello, My name is XXXX XXXX and I seem to be having an issue with Synchrony Bank. See I have 2 accounts with this bank. One is a Care credit card which the bank dropped my credit limit from XXXX to just {$100.00} without notice. When I request to have the card close since I don't have a balance and the card was paid off 2 years ago. The bank customer service department tried to use every excuse possible. To prevent me from closing the card. Is that even legal? Also, I have a second card with Synchrony bank, an Ashley 's furniture card. Which the bank close again without prior notice with an outstanding balance. When I attempted to settle the account for half of the balance. I was decline, again by their customer service rep. I really do believe that your bureau along with the US government need to look into the business practices of this bank. I've also forwarded a copy of this letter to my state 's senator office. So that they can take a look into this bank 's business practices. Even during hard times this bank is not willing to work with their customers. Instead, you are bombarded with weird captions demanding payment. Which goes against their core values of Synchrony Bank? The last time I formed a complaint against this bank with your bureau. The rep response was very rude and rigid. In other words, she wasn't willing to work something out with me to resolve the issue. This is by far the worst bank in the US, and base on their business practices. I can foresee Synchrony bank shutting down or filing for bankruptcy before the end of the year.

Consumer Complaint: I became delinquent with a Care Credit/Synchrony Bank account in XXXX ; my last payment to them was XX/XX/XXXX. Care Credit cancelled the debt and issued a 1099-C on XX/XX/XXXX. The reason stated on Box 6 of the 1099-C is " G - Decision or policy to discontinue collection. '' However, they have continued to report this debt monthly to all three credit bureaus. Their reporting to the credit bureaus says I still owe a balance of {$3700.00}, the account status is Charged Off, and that I am 120+ days past due. I have disputed this multiple times with XXXX and XXXX, and they continue to " confirm '' that I still owe the debt. I contacted Care Credit/Synchrony Bank multiple times, but they failed to understand the problem. I even offered to pay the debt in full if they would stop reporting this debt to the credit bureaus, but they refused my payment because I do not owe them any money, and they mailed me a copy of the 1099-C they submitted in XXXX. One agent last week finally understood that it's impossible for me to be past due or hold a balance on a debt that no longer exists, and he stated he documented my account thoroughly and the situation should be resolved. Yesterday, however, they responded to my dispute with XXXX by saying that I still hold a balance on my account and that I am still past due. This debt has been cancelled. It no longer exists. The 1099-C was filed with the IRS and appears on my IRS Wage and Income Transcript from XXXX. They sent me another copy of the 1099-C last month. They know I no longer owe this debt, but they refuse to stop reporting the nonexistent debt to the credit bureaus. I don't know how to make them stop.
