Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed
Subissue: Debt is not yours
Consumer Complaint: Receiving multiple robocalls daily for weeks from Synchrony Bank trying to call someone using my cell phone number to collect a debt. We have called and given our information and that we do not owe any money or have a debt with Synchrony Bank. When we call, they agree it is not our account and that they will stop calling, but they do not. I have had this phone number for years.

Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed
Subissue: Debt was paid
Consumer Complaint: I received a voicemail today notifying me of a " complaint or civil suit '' being filed against me, was instructed to call XXXX to discuss my case with the legal firm handling my case. I called the number and was routed to a person named " XXXX XXXX '' ( her direct line : XXXX ) of XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX ( at XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX, CA ) who informed me that Synchrony Bank was suing me for {$3300.00} for an " outstanding debt '' on their Care Credit card. This amount included court fees and other penalties. The original debt was for {$2300.00}. I informed XXXX that I paid this debt off long ago in XXXX to a collection agency and had the paperwork to back it up. She attested that if I did not have a " Liability Release '' form that I still owed the debt to Synchrony Bank. She claimed two attempts had been made to issue me a summons via a courier - one to an old residence and one to my current residence. I pointed out that Synchrony Bank had issued me zero correspondence about this supposed debt over the last 11 years and wasn't it a bit odd that I would suddenly receive a phone call to tell me I was being sued? She told me that I had two options - to go to court or to mediate with her, and if I chose to mediate she would issue a " Release of Liability '' but I would have to pay her " offered settlement amount '' of {$2100.00} on the spot. I replied, " No disrespect, but how do I know YOU'RE not scamming me? '' She laughed and said she completely understood why I might feel that way. I told her I needed some time to go through paperwork and she offered to extend a " courtesy EOD hold '' to keep my case from going to court but that when I called back, she would have to go through the mediation process again but couldn't guarantee she could " offer '' me the same settlement amount, it might be higher. I agreed to accept these terms and did some digging. Synchrony Bank attests that my account was deleted on XX/XX/XXXX - the day that they sold it to XXXX XXXX. XXXX, the debt collection agency. XXXX attests my account was paid off in full and provided all the paperwork. I spoke to a lawyer who attested that this is indeed a scam, and that this " law firm '', who does not even appear in a XXXX search had likely bought a list of debts owed from Synchrony Bank, and were going after people to try to get money from them. This is the 3rd or 4th call I have received in the last 3 months regarding this same debt, from 2 different " companies ''.

Consumer Complaint: I was advised by XXXX XXXX located at XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX, NY to apply for Care Credit to finance XXXX braces due to not being covered under my medical insurance. I applied, was approved, and paid XXXX for the braces in XXXX of XXXX. I was told the braces would take 6 weeks to make, and I would be wearing the braces for three months after. I never received the braces and contacted the dental office who told me that they " forgot '' to order my braces. The second claim that was reopened in XXXX, has just been closed on XX/XX/XXXX without any explanation or communication from Synchrony Bank. I contacted Synchrony Bank on XX/XX/XXXX and they confirmed my mailing address and email, to which they never sent any communications to. I have already expressed that I have began the process all over again with a new dentist, and it has cost me an additional {$3000.00}.

Consumer Complaint: This is my 2nd try. I evidently do not know how to send photographic proof of my receipt and the bill. On XX/XX/XXXX i tried to put {$200.00} towards my Lowes credit at store XXXX ( XXXX OH XXXX XXXX XXXX. The clerk took {$1200.00} out of my account. I was in a hurry and did not notice unti later. I went back the next day to have it corrected. I also had the bill which only amounted to {$660.00}. The clerk at the service desk tried to correct it. She said she got it in there but the computer was hesitating to print the receipt. She turned the screen to me but the screen disappeared while I was getting out my phone to verify it. She assured me it was taken care of but to give it a day or two to be deposited. On XX/XX/XXXX I checked and there had been no correction. From the credit union parking lot I called the number on the bill. I was informed that they could not put it back in my account but would be sent a check that would arrive in 2 to 3 weeks. I told her that was bogus, if they could take it out, they could put it in. I expressed that I was not happy. On XX/XX/XXXX no check had arrived and I called in again. I was told that according to their records it would not be XXXX weeks until Friday. I called on XX/XX/XXXX and reached what was obviously a call center and probably in another country. The man I spoke to told me " it's been cancelled. '' I questioned what had been cancelled and where had my money gone. He told me it was cancelled that no money had been taken out. Once again I was extremely mad and again made it clear that when I got my money back and had paid off the balance they would recieve the card in pieces and that in no uncertain terms would their company receive a dime from me until the {$1000.00} was returned. Starting shortly thereafter I began recieving texts to remind me I had not paid my bill. Calls are coming in daily on a potential spam number that I believe is them but I do not answer spam calls. The latest was at XXXX today as I attempted my first complaint.
