Issue: Advertising and marketing, including promotional offers
Subissue: Confusing or misleading advertising about the credit card
Consumer Complaint: A few years back ( I do not recall exactly ), I received a notice from my Sam 's Club Mastercard about an offer for cell phone insurance protection ( attached is the notice I received ). I do not recall if the notice came in my bill or was sent via email. The insurance coverage included, " up to {$1000.00} in yearly protection coverage ( {$600.00} max per claim, 2 claims per year ) '' according to the notice. To receive the cell phone insurance protection, I had to pay my bill with the Sam 's Club Mastercard. I did this in order to take advantage of the insurance offer. Approximately a year after taking advantage of this offer, my son broke his phone. We filed a claim and was ultimately reimbursed for the repair. Fast forward to XXXX of this year ( XXXX ), I dropped my XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX and shattered the screen. I had the phone repaired at a cost of {$520.00} ( receipt attached ). I called Sam 's Club Mastercard to file a claim and was told the insurance was no longer offered. I had not seen any notice this protection was discontinued, so I called customer service to inquire. I was initially told by a customer service representative that no notice was given to customers about the cancellation. I asked to speak with a supervisor because I felt this was ridiculous. I eventually spoke with XXXX in customer relations, who informed me that on the back of my XX/XX/XXXX statement, I was informed the insurance was cancelled. I ordered a copy of the XX/XX/XXXX statement ( attached ). Upon reviewing the back of the statement, and in fine print, it said this coverage was being cancelled.

Consumer Complaint: Synchrony Bank A XXXX XXXX When I entered a 2-year consumer lending loan ( {$4300.00} ) deal with Synchrony Bank on XX/XX/XXXX, I wasnt aware that the loan wasnt designed to be paid off monthly in two years ( similar to XXXX XXXX purchase ). I received a very short email from Synchrony Bank monthly for two years notifying me that the payment was paid by automatic withdraw from my other bank account. To my surprise, the loan amount increased from {$1900.00} in XX/XX/XXXX to {$4200.00} in XX/XX/XXXX. I am horrified to learn that Synchrony Bank enticed me to a loan with 29.99 % annual deferred interest if there was any unpaid amount at the end of two-year deal. If Synchrony Bank would send me an apparent notification stating that the loan would incur an interest charge of {$2400.00} in XXXX, XXXX, I would have chosen to pay off the loan. Instead, Synchrony Bank sent me a short email just like in the past two year notifying me the automatic withdraw. I wouldnt know I had to pay almost 60 % more of my loan amount unless I spent time to open the statement on the banks website. As a XXXX trying to manage my life, I am too busy to check the statement in detail. Without any grace period, Synchrony Bank utilizes this type of business tactics to prey on citizens like me with astronomical 29.99 % annual deferred interest. I urge the governing authority to investigate how many citizens are abused by the financial XXXX like Synchrony Bank. I called the bank right away, trying to find a resolution to pay off the loan with a reasonable interest rate, but the three representatives ( XXXX, XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXX ) that I spoke to unsympathetically declined my request. There are many illegal financial scams in the States. However, how could the U.S. government allow an institution like Synchrony Bank to run a legal financial scam with such a high interest rate? Please STOP Synchrony Banks financial abuse to the law-abiding citizens who worked so hard to support themselves and their family.

Consumer Complaint: I called Syncrony Bank, who finances my Lowe 's card about a fee that was applied to an outstanding balance of {$14.00}. I was charged an additional {$14.00} late fee and an additional {$2.00} in interest resulting in {$16.00} applied to an outstanding balance of {$14.00} that was a week late. I asked if this was a mistake and I was told that it wasn't. So I asked what is the late fee policy because this seemed insane. I was told that it depends on the situation, leaving me to wonder how much of a late fee would be applied to a larger purchase. I asked for my account to be closed and paid my balance including the fees. I'm not an attorney, but this doesn't seem legal.
