Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed
Subissue: Debt is not yours
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2020 I received a letter in the mail attempting to settle a debt from PayPal INC for {$44.00}. I rarely use PayPal and certainly never had a debt and after checking my account there was no debt or any suspicious transactions. I believe XXXX XXXX is phishing me for information or falsely trying to extort money from me. I called the phone number on the letter and they refused to give me any information or email associated with this claim without me giving my personal information. I gave them the reference number and my name and they can see my phone number, they demanded my social security number which I'm not willing to give out to a random person claiming to collect " debt ''. They hung up on me when I asked them questions about the supposed claim. After researching this particular practice I found many examples of people being pressured to pay for a debt that wasn't theirs. The Company is : XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, MN XXXX

Consumer Complaint: Between XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX of 2020, I made 12 orders for coins advertised as " XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX '', and a couple other American currency coins. When i recieved the first order it was immediatly apparent that the coins were counterfeit. Some were magnetic and none weighed properly. All the rest of the orders were also counterfiet American currency, illegal to buy. sell or own in the USA..i immediatly informed PayPal inc. of the problem and requested that they refund my money, which they have refused to do for the bulk of the orders. PayPal profited from illegal sales and Now with full knowledge of the laws against the sale..specifically 16 CFR part 304 and HR2754. The hobbys protection act and subsequent addition to it, prohibiting anyone from significantly assisting in the sale of counterfiet currency. PayPal inc. Did refund one order and my credit card company refunded 3 orders. That leaves 8 orders totaling ... $ XXXX.I have complained to many agencies about this rip off and in more than one written response PayPal has not addressed the issue of the illegally of these sales in any way..only policy..significantly assisting these XXXX companys in counterfeiting american currency. ..

Issue: Unauthorized transactions or other transaction problem

Consumer Complaint: I requested Venmo to provide me with all details regarding unauthorized activity on my account while it was under the control of a hacker. Venmo Support has largely been unresponsive, and when they do reply, they do not address my issue in any way. On XX/XX/XXXX, a hacker accessed and locked me out of my Venmo account ( as well as PayPal and all my email accounts ). They somehow gained control of my old phone number, which was still tied to the accounts. Every day for seven weeks, I tried to work with Venmo Support. I had to open many tickets because Venmo would close them before the issue was resolved or simply stop responding, even after following all their instructions. When they did respond, it was obvious they did not read my Support Requests as they would only advise me to follow the prompts to regain my account, but without the phone number tied to the account, that was not possible. Four times they did ask for proof of my ID, which I provided, but they would not follow up or respond afterward. The hacker managed to get {$6700.00} from my bank account before I could notify the bank on XX/XX/XXXX. After I worked with the bank, Venmo began refunding directly to my Venmo account on XX/XX/XXXX. Because Venmo still did not restore access to my account nor lock it as I repeatedly requested, the hacker was able to get another {$6700.00}. The hacker transferred all of these funds to a bank card they attached to my Venmo account. On XX/XX/XXXX, I was finally able to get access back ( after seven insanely frustrating weeks ). Throughout the seven weeks of this process, I repeatedly asked Venmo to provide details about the activity on my account, but they never responded to these requests. XX/XX/XXXX, I started a new ticket requesting the information for every transaction that occurred while the account was in control of the hacker and the information tied to the bank card the hacker attached. The information for the fraudulent bank card could help with the police investigation and details on the transactions ( completed and attempted ) will help me understand what happened with *my* own account. In summary, Venmo Support has been slow to respond or incompetent in the months since my account has hacked. Venmo has allowed a hacker to continue defrauding me and others, Venmo gave this hacker an additional {$6700.00}, and Venmo has prevented me from providing information to the police.

Consumer Complaint: Firstly I have been on hold now for over two hours with PayPal. PayPal put limitations on my account, I have provided all the documentation they required and each time I ask when my issue is going to be resolved another 72 hours is added. I am closing on a house on the XXXX of XXXX, My sister sent me {$3000.00} to help me with closing costs. The day I received the money, PayPal put a restriction on my account. I called them, I submitted every bit of information they wanted but still they have not lifted the restrictions. They have held my money for over 5 days, and they will still hold it for another 3 before releasing it into my account. Time is really what I do not have, I need that money urgently. My sister even called them and also wrote to them countless times. Why are they refusing with my money when both the sender and the recipient have provided all the details they need? Now they do not pick up my calls, do they flag people that call too much? People that annoy them because all they need is their money? I dont know what else to do, I have begged, I have cried for what is rightfully mine. They charged my sister an exorbitant amount in charges and still they are holding the money? I know it benefits them as a financial institution to hold peoples monies for as long as possible but they have to also realise the amount of damage and pain they are inflicting. I am appealing to their humanitarian side to to please help me with this. As I am typing this message, I have passed the 2 1/2 hour mark and no one has picked up my call. Can anyone on this forum please help me. My Reference ID : XXXX

Consumer Complaint: I made a purchase with Paypal Pay in 4 payment on XX/XX/XXXX for {$590.00}. It was set for a recurring payment on my credit card. Before the last ( 4th ) payment of {$140.00}, my credit card was used fraudulently and i had to get a replacement from my credit card company. On Friday XX/XX/XXXX I received a text message from paypal stating that my last payment did not go through. I immediately went on to the paypal website, and it showed that my last payment was completed, and that there was nothing left to pay. I was unable to add any payment or change payment method or do ANYTHING regarding the transaction because paypal considered it closed & paid. Just in case, I added the replacement credit card but was denied access to remove the old ( fraudulently used ) card. I checked on the mobile app as well, it showed as fully paid there as well. On Tuesday XX/XX/XXXX, I was charged a late fee of {$8.00}, even though they showed that the payment was completed on XX/XX/XXXX. I was UNABLE to open a case with paypal about this ( they block you from opening any kind of case regarding Pay in 4 transactions ), and I have no way to get into the phone support lines. I ended up paying the {$8.00} late fee because i don't want a derogatory mark on my credit. But its messed up that paypal can show my loan as paid, prevent me from making any payment, and THEN charge me a late fee. It is ridiculous.

Consumer Complaint: Dear sir or madam, My original complaint : This is regarding my PayPal account created in my name : registered email address : XXXX My account was permanently limited with a vague explanation of their " terms of service. '' Only after I filed a complaint with the XXXX did they give an explanation but it is not satisfactory. They said they will put a hold on my money for 180 days. At this time I have over {$600.00} in my account and it is a lot of money, and quite a hardship they are keeping it, during this pandemic. My updated complaint : After 180 days have passed, Paypal broke their promise and did not return my money. They accused me of receiving my earnings through XXXX which is not true. They took my balance and deducted it to XXXX, so Paypal basically stole my money, hiding behind their " terms of service. '' I want my money NOW, and I don't want to hear any more excuses from Paypal. Please help me. Thank you, XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX
