Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer
Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled
Consumer Complaint: From XX/XX/2023 to XX/XX/2023 I have repeatedly called ( wait times were 2 hours or more ) and emailed ( not one acknowledgment or response ) Nelnet to correct the allocation of my loan pmt of {$2800.00} to the smallest student loan to pay it off. They applied my payment to the largest loan with the highest interest rate with smaller amounts to the lesser loans. They repeatedly told me it was under review, it was being processed, you will see the reallocation within the next week or 2. Until today, XX/XX/XXXX, they tell me they cant reallocate the money, because it would make the other loans delinquent - due date ( XX/XX/XXXX ). This is negligence and fraud on their part. They had plenty of time from XXXX, XXXX and XXXX to correct their error. I never had a problem with Great Lakes. Nelnet is atrocious and I have reported them to the U.S. Dept of Education Attorney General for fraudulent practices.

Consumer Complaint: My XXXX loan account is on a payment pause while they process my income driven repayment plan, meaning no payments are due. I decided to make voluntary payments while my account is in an administrative forbearance. I received a statement dated XX/XX/XXXX from Nelnet stating {$100.00} would be autodebited from my account on XXXX. It shows no past due amounts, and my last payment of {$140.00} was paid on XXXX. It also states that my regular monthly payment is {$100.00}. They autodebited {$750.00} on XX/XX/XXXX. No authorization, no advanced warning, no communication from Nelnet whatsoever since the statement on XX/XX/XXXX. I can not get through to a representative by phone and they have not answered my emails.

Consumer Complaint: I enrolled in 2 online XXXX XXXX at XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. I have found out that they falsely reported that I never started class so my federal loan was canceled after being disbursed. The class did not have any coursework only a final. I was never notified of the cancellation and only found out when I was denied graduation. I have reached out to several advisors and was told that I would have to pay the loan back on different terms than I initially agreed upon. I have reported this issue to student aid and was told that there was an opportunity to reinstate the loan but time had expired to do so. XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX has denied me the ability to graduate and has now sent this account to collections. It is extremely unfair to sign up for an XXXX XXXX and then later be penalized for not " utilizing office hours '' which is an optional task. It is also unacceptable to force a student into high interest rate loans!

Consumer Complaint: I applied for the SAVE Federal Student Loan program the day the application was available through my student loan holder, NelNet. They just approved my application yesterday for the SAVE program where my payments and interest will be waived for one year ( until I re-qualify ). I am a single-mom of XXXXXXXX XXXX children and have a XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX against my soon to be ex-husband. I am on welfare and food stamps because of his unwillingness to support his children. I can understand charging back interest from XXXX if someone was NOT approved for SAVE, but charging interest of {$1300.00} while their company took FOUR MONTHS to process an application is just morally wrong when it's someone who qualifies for XXXX payments and interest on SAVE due to being extremely low income.

Consumer Complaint: I submitted a complaint, escalated this to the Ombudsman Group, and contacted both Nelnet ( my servicer ) and XXXX. Last time I called, I was hung up on by XXXX. I requested information about the status of my teacher loan forgiveness application. I submitted my application and it was approved by XXXX on XX/XX/. I call Nelnet for a status update and they say to call XXXX. I call XXXX and they say to call Nelnet. I need my {$17000.00} forgiven because I paid everything up until that number, and now interests keep accruing and I have to keep paying it off. My payments are still due but I feel that my loans should already be forgiven. It's been months and much longer than the date they said they should address it by. They refuse to respond to my complaint and even hang up on me when I try to call.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2023, I sent a negotiable instrument via certified mail ( tracking number : XXXX ) to Nelnet XXXX XXXX, a servicer for my student " loans, '' with the intent to discharge the " debt '' on my account for {$20000.00}. This action constitutes a valid tender of payment under the Uniform Commercial Code ( XXXX ) Section XXXX. Despite confirmation of delivery on XX/XX/2023, Nelnet has failed to : Apply my payment to my account : My billing statements continue to reflect an inaccurate balance, neglecting the tendered payment. This violates XXXX XXXX XXXX, which defines a negotiable instrument as " paid '' upon delivery and acceptance. Acknowledge receipt of the instrument : I have not received any communication regarding the instrument or its application to my account. This lack of notice of dishonor further strengthens my claim of valid payment under XXXX Section XXXX. Correct my credit report : My credit report continues to show late payments, inaccurately reflecting my financial standing despite the timely tender of payment. This violates the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( FCRA ) and misrepresents my creditworthiness. Furthermore, I have since opted out of Nelnet sharing my private information and sent a follow-up letter, and email inquiring about the payment and credit reporting discrepancies. My inquiries remain unanswered, potentially constituting a violation of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau ( CFPB ) Regulations regarding complaint investigation and response.
