Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed
Subissue: Debt was result of identity theft
Consumer Complaint: I have written several letters over the past 3 years trying to resolve this issue. I was a victim of identity theft back in XXXX I reported to Navy Federal customer service and was assured that everything was going to be taken care of. I had 2 accounts with Navy Federal. Account XXXX in the amount of {$10000.00} and account XXXX. {$1300.00}. I was recently checking my credit report again and noticed on the account XXXX it showed a payment. I never made a payment on this account. I wrote navy federal requesting documentation of this payment. The last payment that I myself made was back on XXXX and because navy federal never tried to fix the issue I wasnt going to pay for fraudulent charges. Its illegal for navy federal to say a payment was made in XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX but refused to produce the information and why wasnt a payment made on the other account which the balance is very small. It doesnt make sense. This is utterly unacceptable illegal debt practice. I would be crazy to make a payment to start the process over another 7 years.

Consumer Complaint: I was incarcerated in federal prison since XXXX, during that time my credit card was being used without my knowledge and permission. When I was released on XX/XX/XXXX, I was contacted by Navy Federal Credit Union Collections department that advised me that a payment was due on my credit card account and that it was closed due to nonpayment. I expressed my concern and shared that my account balance should be paid off and funds to pay my credit card was left in my checking/savings account therefore, my account should still be in good standing. At this time is when I found out that my account was maxed out and I immediately filed a fraudulent claim. I provided the fraud department supporting evidence which included my prison release documents, prison ID card, police report, FTC report, and proof of other unauthorized activities with other consumers. After the submission, I was advised that the investigation would take 15 days which had soon expired and I had to reach back out to the fraud department to check the status. At this time I was told that my claim was denied because they had not received no evidence and had nothing to prove otherwise. Therefore, I resubmitted the supporting evidence and was told to wait 15 business days for a determination. My claim was denied for the 2nd with no explanation besides that I still owed $ XXXX.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I contacted Navy Federal Credit Union. My first attempt to get a debt consolidation line of credit to pay off high interest accounts to put us in a better position. Our current home values at {$900000.00} with a current mortgage of {$390000.00}. We were trying to get a loan for {$100000.00} that we were going to pay off Navy Federal Credit Union credit card which has a very high interest rate I have been paying for the credit card for more than 20 years. I never did get a chance to talk with a loan officer working on the loan. I made several attempts to speak someone with the bank. I left numerous messages and emails for the loan officer. I feel that my race had something to do with the outcome of the denial. I just got a copy of the denial letter this month. We applied again to get the loan to pay off the bank debt and other debt with the equity in our home. Same outcome no loan officer communication to discuss the purpose of the loan. Again we were denied. We found out that the bank was denying loan because of racial discrimination. I never spoke with the loan officer assigned my file. Please help us with this matter.

Consumer Complaint: Navy Federal Credit Union is insured under the National Credit Union Administration for up to XXXX on each members deposit account so my account is insured for XXXX yet Navy Federal Credit Union has charged me XXXX insufficient fund fees which are charged {$29.00} for each one. This is ILLEGAL as Navy Federal Credit Union did NOT take a loss due to my account being protected with insurance. Navy Federal Credit Union is not only keeping the insurance for my account but the interest payments as well for each deposit so I can not be charged when Navy Federal Credit Union is already keeping ALL the proceeds as the custodian over my account. Custodial Accounts The combined balances in a minor 's custodial account ( an account established under the provision of the Uniform Transfers to Minors Act ) are insured separately from funds the minor or custodian has in other Navy Federal accounts, and receive separate insurance coverage for up to {$250000.00}.

Consumer Complaint: I am writing in response to the adverse action taken by NAVY FEDERAL CREDIT UNION regarding my recent credit application. I believe this decision may be in violation of certain provisions outlined in the United States Code, specifically 12 U.S.C. 1431, 15 U.S.C. 1611, and 15 U.S.C. 1602. As per 12 U.S.C. 1431, the powers and duties of banks in credit transactions involving natural persons for personal, family, or household purposes must adhere to certain standards. It is crucial to emphasize that the term " consumer '' in credit transactions characterizes such transactions when the party involved is a natural person, and the transaction 's subject is primarily for personal, family, or household purposes. Additionally, the terms " open end credit plan '' and " open end consumer credit plan '' as defined in 15 U.S.C. 1602 encompass plans where the creditor reasonably anticipates repeated transactions, prescribes the terms of such transactions, and includes provisions for a finance charge computed periodically on the outstanding unpaid balance. It is essential to note that even if credit information is verified intermittently, the transaction remains an open end credit plan or open end consumer credit plan.Furthermore more NAVY FEDERAL CREDIT UNION has been discriminating against XXXX XXXX Americans, and I believe I have been victimized by their actions.

Consumer Complaint: I would like to express my dissatisfaction with the service I received from Navy Federal Credit Union. Over the years, I have encountered multiple instances where my accounts have been mishandled, and I strongly believe that this treatment has been influenced by XXXX discrimination. One recurring issue that I have faced is being locked out of my account on numerous occasions. This has made me feel like a criminal, as I am being punished without just cause. Additionally, I was wrongly accused of misusing my accounts due to a returned payment, which was promptly corrected. It is important to note that I had previously taken out loans with Navy Federal Credit Union. During a period of permanent account lock ( not closure ), Navy Federal Credit Union refused to allow funds in my accounts to be transferred to make card payments, resulting in late payments being reported. This situation left me feeling defeated and ultimately led me to give up, as it became apparent that engaging in a prolonged battle with them would be futile. I hope that Navy Federal Credit Union takes my concerns seriously and undertakes the necessary steps to rectify these issues. It is disheartening to experience such treatment, especially from an institution that is meant to provide reliable and fair financial services to all of its members. I am formally notifying them of a notice of suit and demand.
