Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer
Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled
Consumer Complaint: I have calculated my interest down to the day for how much I am losing. Navient is stealing an extra day every month from me since my loan started. If they are doing this to everyone that is a large sum of money. I calculated the same thing with XXXX and they are not doing the same as Navient. Also if you go through the history of my loans when I just mailed in the amount I was told I owed for the month, they did not allocate my payments correctly. Since they have allowed access online I have not had this issue, as they must apply my payments as I note them. Although the first month I did this 3 years ago they tried to misappropriate my payments again. Which took 3 months to fix. I borrowed less than {$70000.00} and graduated in XX/XX/2007 and I have paid them {$100000.00} and I still owe them {$10000.00}. People that have borrowed from Sallie Mae/Navient please be aware of where your payments are going.

Consumer Complaint: I have attempted to exercise my equity on my student loans by requesting my original instrument of indebtedness from Navient. I sent written requests for my two separate loans on XX/XX/2018 and it was received by them on XX/XX/2018. I did not receive any correspondence from Navient. I then made a SECOND written request on XX/XX/2018 which was received on XX/XX/2018. I did not receive any written response from them. I have provided for them my current address and contact information in writing and I have changed my information online in their database as well.

Consumer Complaint: With an obvious regulatory Inclination, It is the presumption of this board that all facets of lawful writ regulations and the understood or should be understood standards of practice are to be acted upon in full undoubted accordance as dictated. This criterion in specification should be thought to incorporate the decrees within the XXXX XXXX format compliance of reporting process as well. Further, this board takes note that Section 607 ( b ) of the FCRA requires CRAs to " follow reasonable procedures to assure maximum possible accuracy of information '' in their consumer reports. It is our view that a CRA that refuses to accept updated and corrected information from a furnisher on student loan accounts, if it still maintains that information in its database, does not have in place " reasonable procedures '' to comply with this section with respect to such accounts. An inadequacy of any regulation and or requisite standard gives credence to a injured consumer 's right to compel. The opinions set forth in this informal staff letter are not binding on the Commission. Please delete ALL Dept of Ed/Navient accounts that appear on my credit report immediately.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2018 while talking with a representative who indicated they were a manager, I was trying to find a way to lower my monthly student loan payment as it was higher than what I could afford. The representative told me I needed to get a part time job, I let them know I had a young child and child care cost so much that getting a part time job would probably make me lose money. The representative then told me that I could save money if i applied for food stamps or other government assistance, I let him know that I made too much to qualify for those programs and I only gave no money because it all goes to pay those student loans. The representative told me that it was not their job to fix my mistakes and that I should have thought about having a child and choosing the career path I did before ever taking out student loans. I was appalled that my child was called a mistake and I was told my choices were stupid, I am not the one that loaned an XXXX year old that much money for a XXXX degree, I was not thoroughly prepped on what to expect from taking those loans out but instead I was urged to l! The representative said to this, XXXX years old is old enough to drive, vote and play the lottery, old enough to make those decisions and know the outcomes, thats your responsibility not ours.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan
Subissue: Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Consumer Complaint: I currently have private student loans through Navient. Recently, my school deferment was up and I had to start making monthly payments. The account statements according to Navient quoted me at about {$600.00} per month. I am XXXX years old & recently graduated in XXXX of 2017. I just started my career so I'm only making about $ XXXX {$20000.00} a year. When I spoke to Navient the first time in XXXX ( before my payments were due ) I wanted to talk about repayment options. They told me I do not qualify for any type of repayment plan nor could they offer me deferment due to financial hardship. I assume this is because I have a co-signer. I spent numerous weeks calling Navient to work something out : Week 1 - called and spoke to someone who claimed they could get my payments down to {$200.00} per month. Unfortunately we got disconnected. When I called back I was directed to a different agent who told me they couldn't go any lower than {$400.00}. I told them I would talk to my co-signer and call back. Week 2 - Called Navient again, spoke to yet another agent. This time I was told that due to my co-signers income I don't qualify to lower my payments AT ALL and would have to pay {$600.00}. They were unsure why someone offered me {$400.00} and said that wasn't possible. I tried to explain my co-signer is not assisting me with the payments and that she can't afford that amount either. I was dismissed and not offered any options. Week 3 - Called once again and spoke to someone different. They resumed to tell me that they couldn't offer me any options. I was not surprised, just frustrated. My co-signer also called and tried to explain her financial situation ( recent death in the family, out of work for almost a year, recently started a new job ) but they told her that there were no options and we had to pay the full amount. Finally, my last phone call this week consisted of me asking for suggestions on what to do. Navient suggested I refinance my loans somewhere else ( which I was never informed couldn't be done during a forbearance ) or proceed with a forbearance request. I decided on the forbearance thinking I could refinance during that time. However, that is not that case. I am now struggling because I can't refinance my loans without 3 consecutive monthly payments. However, I can not afford the monthly payments through Navient. I am at a loss. My only option is to unfortunately use up all my forbearance time. I do not understand how this company can't offer myself, or my co-signer, any options.

Consumer Complaint: I took out a student loan in XXXX and had paid on the loan for several years, including when I was serving overseas for the XXXX XXXX. In XXXX, the XXXX won a lawsuit regarding Sallie Mae/Navient mishandling of loan repayment and I was issued a settlement check. I did not hear back from Navient. A few months ago, I had received calls saying my initial loan was not paid and instead was thousands of dollars more. I have reached out to the company asking for proof of financial debt and payments already sent to no avail. I need help.
