Consumer Complaint: I am a public servant and have worked for the XXXX XXXX XXXX for 14 years. I am eligible for Federal Loan Forgiveness, but when I've contacted Navient over the years, I'm always told that I have the wrong kind of loan. If they are the ones giving the loans, how could I have been assigned the incorrect loan. I believe that Navient is trying to avoid allowing their customers to receive Federal Loan Forgiveness. I have had issues with customer service with the last 8 years trying to get the name on my account to match my legal name. I'm not holding out hope that Navient will do right by its customers.

Consumer Complaint: XX/XX/XXXX School Year : federal loans consolidated with terms agreed to on master promissory note were a 120month repayment starting upon matriculation from my institution, XXXX. Date unknown : I received notification that Salie Mae was spinning off & my loan would be serviced by Navient XX/XX/XXXX : contacted Navient to inquire, what remained on my loan & was told that I was in a 240month repayment plan. I then sent a letter to Navient & requested a copy of my original promissory note. When Navient replied via mail, they sent only a signature page & showed no repayment period terms. As my time allowed I thrive placed calls to Navient, who generally kept me on the line 40min-2hrs as the respondent investigated & /or waited for a supervisor to become available. I was then told a promissory note would be sent. No further information was received in the mail XX/XX/XXXX : On phone with Navient Employee XXXX ID XXXX for 41min. He stated the mastery promissory note on file was cut off and no loan repayment period was shown. I was again put on hold to wait for a supervisor. XXXX XXXX. He again has said paperwork will come in 7-10 days. I maintain that without my consent, my loan repayment was altered from a standard 10 year 140months to a 240month term.

Consumer Complaint: My student loans are serviced through Navient. I have a repayment plan with consolidated federal direct loans that is income driven. The only problem with that is that this plan does not take all of my other debt into account. They strictly ask for income and never ask for existing debt. I have a mortgage, two car payments, and multiple credit cards to pay as well. There is no way I can afford a {$400.00} a month repayment plan. I owed {$49000.00} in student loans when I graduated in 2012 but have had to forbear my loan repayment since then because even on income driven repayment I can not afford it. I WANT to pay my student loans back but now I owe almost {$80000.00} in student loans because of interest. My husband and I both have two jobs, how is this even fair? Even when I call them and complain repeatedly that I can not afford it they will not take my existing debt into consideration. How am I ever supposed to repay them? Now I am out of forbearance all together and I can not pay my monthly amount. Do I just wait for them to start garnishing my wages? If I can't afford it now, how am I going to be able to afford that? Then how do I pay my mortgage? Car payments? Credit card payments? How can they get away with only considering income and not considering debt? There is no way I can work any harder than I already am. IT is super stressful. Is anything being done to revise how they handle student loan repayment with Navient? I am sure that I am not alone in this struggle. Please help.

Consumer Complaint: Navient incorrectly stated in XX/XX/XXXX while I was still enrolled in school full time that my Signature Student Loans had a " 48 month maximum in school deferment '' even though years had passed since those loans were taken out and nothing was documented in promissory notes. They demanded payment then let me use an internship deferment. Fast forward to XX/XX/XXXX, loans again went into repayment, they refused to acknowledge still in school status again, forced me to use month of forbearance. End of XX/XX/XXXX they demanded $ 1700+ a month. After speaking to multiple supervisors they " agreed '' to do a financial review and stated I could enter a Rate Reduction Program. After 2 months in the program, account still had not changed to reflect agreement, they then stated ( to PA State AG on my behalf ) that it was " a qualifying period to later qualify for the program by making payments stated. '' I realized by XX/XX/XXXX, at which point I did finally finish school ), I could not sustain these payments on my newly acquired job income ( was unemployed from XX/XX/XXXX to XX/XX/XXXX ) working in XXXX XXXX XXXX currently. I reached out to them and they stated " there is nothing we can do, the answer is no in terms of reducing or changing payment. '' They insisted I ask friends/family for money or " get a better job or another job. '' They refused to acknowledge I was previously eligible for deferments and purposefully mislead me to options while hiding other available options from me as a borrower. I called back again this week ( XX/XX/XXXX ) and was refused access to the consumer advocate department of their company as I was returning a call from that department. I was forced to transfer to the " collections department '' where a supervisor acknowledged the whole " 48 month max deferment '' was indeed an error but refused to provide this in writing. They also stated " you never used your internship deferment and you could have used in school deferment from XX/XX/2017 to present but chose not to '' which is a blatant lie as they INSISTED on multiple occasions I was no longer eligible for in school deferment. I asked to supervisor to cancel auto debits to my account and asked again for payment relief or another plan and was again told " by now qualifying for the rate reduction program you are no longer eligible for at least one year to apply for any other payment program. '' I can't afford these payments and they mislead me into a payment plan I can't afford at this time and refuse to work with me on this. I asked they send every communication in writing and they stated verbally " we are not required to offer more affordable payment options nor are we obligated in your state to respond to or consider requests for documents and communication in writing. '' As a XXXX XXXX XXXX and on the path to becoming a XXXX XXXX, this behavior by Navient and their treatment of borrowers is absolutely appalling and disgusting. They have lied to me, misled me, changed terms without documentation, lied about options available, and done what appears to be everything in their power to misdirect and mislead me into a payment plan I can't afford then tell me I can't get another payment plan. Please do something to help myself and thousands of others being forced into options that make the debt grow and force many of us to decide between rent or paying a company that jacks up interest on loans " because we can. '' I called looking for a workable payment plan and can't even get Navient to provide documentation on changes to these loans. This company is causing distress to thousands of borrowers who call seeking help and assistance.

Consumer Complaint: I recently found that Naviant had filed delinquencies on my Credit Bureau. I was a co-signer for my son 's Student Loan and he had fallen behind. The loan was re-financed without my knowledge and when I called in the last 12 to 18 months to inquire about derogatory items on my Credit Bureau, I was told that it would take 6 months to resolve. I followed up by pulling my Credit Report and my score had continued to drop. I called Naviant again and they would not take my call without my son or daughter-in-law. I called with my daughter-in-law and they stated that they did have a recorded call of me being told this would be resolved in 6 months but there was nobody there that knew how to remove me as I was promised.

Consumer Complaint: XX/XX/2016 I started going back to school to earn a XXXX 's Degree in XXXX. At this time Navient put my loans on Deferment without informing me of this. After two months I noticed no payments were being made to my student loans and a small amount of interest was added to the account. I never would have know the loans were put on deferment if Navient wouldn't have called me asking if I wanted to open a loan as they saw I am back in school. I responded that I did not need any additional loans and that I did NOT want them to put me on deferment again. Since then I have had no issues with the loan provider but they are making changes to my account without informing me the lender, increasing my total amount owed! I truly feel that there may be other information they are not telling me and they are charging me more then what I owe.
