Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan

Consumer Complaint: The loan balance is significantly higher than what was received for school. Previously, I requested copies of promisory notes. The copies received had false email addresses and addresses where I never attended school. When Navient calls, I do not avoid them. Please help because they are not.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan

Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments

Consumer Complaint: I have repeatedly called Navient private loan Lender about my very large debt and large student loan payments that I cant afford after my chapter XXXX bankruptcy ended in XX/XX/XXXX of 2018. I received a letter in XXXX demanding repayment. I called an set up a smaller repayment plan in XXXX but I am still getting late notices and they keep trying to charge me for late charges and what is left over after the payment plan which I have explained to Navient reps over five times since XXXX. I am struggling to pay the lower amount which I have been told will end on XXXX. I cant even pay on my federal loans at this time because of the private loan debt. The reps are always rude and not helpful at all. I struggle to try and get any help from this Navient and there is always the looming threat that they are going to charge me the back due amount, since they have my bank account information. They are still holding my account in past due status even though I fulfilled the three month payment obligation earlier this month. Even with a payment plan I get email notices demanding I pay over {$1000.00} in late charges and past due amounts.

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan

Consumer Complaint: I have several monitoring companies alerting me to my credit report .I have duplicate accounts on my reports as well as someone from Navient going into my account when I have called about the accuracy of the late reporting on my accounts and changing information that has been reported incorrectly for the past several years below is an alert I received from a company monitoring my information this statement is listed several times through out my report, If the information was accurate why would someone have to go and change the information two years later. Confirm Negative Change in Payment History As of XX/XX/XXXX, there was a negative change in your payment history related to your Navient Student Loan. The period for your XX/XX/XXXX past due payment has increased. We recommend reviewing your payment history carefully Also after searching the the National Student loan data base, it does not state my loans were ever late states they were in forbearance but yet the information wasn't correctly reported in which caused an adverse reaction into the simplest living a normal every day life, the stress and undo hardships I had to face with inaccurate information reported to all credit reporting agencies

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan

Consumer Complaint: Several of my student loans are serviced by Navient. I called them and let them know that, as a military spouse living overseas on my husband 's military orders, I was unable to find steady employment and needed assistance. I called Navient in XX/XX/XXXX and told them I had no employment and was struggling to pay my loan. They placed me on a forbearance, backdated it to XX/XX/XXXX so that I had no late payments, and extended the forbearance through XX/XX/XXXX while the unemployment deferment was completed. The unemployment deferment was applied on XX/XX/XXXX ; Navient back-dated the deferment to XX/XX/XXXX, despite having paid the loan through XX/XX/XXXX. Navient insists that I filled out my paperwork with an unemployment deferment date of XX/XX/XXXX ; I did not. Either Navient made a mistake, or someone in Navient fraudulently amended my Federal Unemployment Deferment application without my knowledge or permission. Regardless of where the transgression occurred, Navient still charged me two late fees and a required payment, which was paid, during the unemployment deferment period of XX/XX/XXXX to XX/XX/XXXX. I was charged a late fee of XXXX dollars on XX/XX/XXXX ; I was charged a late fee of XXXX dollars on XX/XX/XXXX ; and I was charged an anonymous fee of XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX, which was originally sent to me as the amount due for XX/XX/XXXX but wasnt applied to my account at all. Accounts with Unemployment Deferments in place are legally bound to be in good standing, with no fees charged or payments requested during that time. I requested a copy of the master promissory note from Navient. Navient can not find this promissory note, and as of this date I have not received the requested documents. I also requested a copy of the original unemployment deferment paperwork. As this paperwork was submitted electronically, I have the master copy ; the original copy does not list XX/XX/XXXX as the unemployment deferment start date. The begin date of unemployment is listed as XX/XX/XXXX. My husband is XXXX XXXX military, and employers often do not want to hire spouses of XXXX XXXX military members because we have to move often, so I have no had full-time employment since then. I spoke with XXXX ID NUMBER XXXX who informed me that they were looking at a copy of my paperwork, it was right in front of them, and the start date was definitely XX/XX/XXXX. I then spoke with XXXX, ID NUMBER XXXX. They both told me that because the financial discrepancies were posted to the account, they can not change them and are refusing to either adjust the false charges or adjust the unemployment deferment they fraudulently applied to my account. My new account balance is XXXX. Three weeks ago, my balance was XXXX ; a year ago it was XXXX dollar less than that. Not only am I receiving compounded interest, my account balance is increasing monthly, too ; around XXXX over the past six months. Because they can't find my promissory note and refuse to send me any statements, I can not begin to determine what financial mistakes they've made or how much I'm actually supposed to owe. Over the past several years, I received a notice that my payment schedule had been updated, but with no explanation and no one could answer why it was changing when my payments had been made on time.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan

Consumer Complaint: Navient has been an extremely difficult company to work with and I am not sure they are servicing my loans appropriately. They service my private student loans, which are under my grandmother 's name as she is listed as the borrower even though I am the student who needed the loans at the time in XXXX. This company has not been helpful to provide me with information that I need to service my loans. I had applied in XXXX of XXXX for a reduced rate payment program and it was to last for 6 months. At the end of the 6 month period, I did not receive a letter stating the program was ending and that I had the option to re-enroll. They also informed me in XXXX that I had been set up with pay ahead payments, which they did not clearly explain to me what that was. All I understood from that conversation was that I had been paying ahead on my loans, which I never gave permission for them to do nor did I receive any notification that my payments were on the advanced pay schedule. Prior to enrolling in the reduced rate program, Navient did not explain to me all my options for reducing my payments since they were extremely high for the last several years. It wasn't until I made continuous phone calls that they were able to explain this program to me. Also, since the loan is under my grandmother 's name, it is very difficult to find out information since I am not the main borrower, even though I have been the one making the payments since the start of my loan in XXXX. During that phone call in XX/XX/XXXX, an employee explained to me that I could fill out a power of attorney form so that I could make the decisions and receive all information for the loan. Again, this was never provided to me as an option throughout all my difficult phone calls over the years with Navient. Furthermore, their website is not user friendly and does not provide me with detailed information regarding the student loan. It's difficult to find out when the loan was even dispursed. All correspondence is only operated through their log-in session and only goes back to XX/XX/XXXX. If I need a document beyond that, I can't access it online and I'm not even sure if I could receive it if I called them.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan

Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments

Consumer Complaint: I am submitting a complaint on Navient/Sallie Mae loan servicing due to several reasons. My original loan amount after consolidation from XXXX as reflected on their website was {$22000.00}. My current balance today, XX/XX/XXXX is {$98000.00}. I have called them numerous occasions to understand how my balance increased that much during a chapter XXXX bankruptcy period in which I was not aware of interest accrual and never received any correspondence of that fact. Prior to the chapter XXXX bk filling my loan was either in a default or forbearance status as I could not afford to pay the loan and the only options communicated to me was forbearance. My husband was XXXX in the military from XX/XX/XXXX-XX/XX/XXXX and I am not certain if during this timeframe there should have been some form of reprieve from interest accrual. The bankruptcy was filed after his return from the military XX/XX/XXXX due to financial hardship and his eventual unemployment. Every time I've called Navient to discuss repayment options that I can afford, they have been unable to offer an agreed upon amount that I can afford outside of a brief period in which I was paying {$69.00} for a 12 month timeframe after I sent a written note explaining my situation. Since that time I have been unable to obtain assistance in lowering the amount and due to the interest accrual don't see any reprieve or other alternatives outside of defaulting. While I did apply for income sensitive repayment plan, the calculations are based on your IRS tax returns which is misleading due to my husband 's XXXX XXXX. His income fluctuates and I am responsible for taking care of my family and paying household expenses. There is no way I can do that and pay the huge amounts they are asking me to pay on the current income sensitive repayment plan of {$930.00} for 12 months and {$1000.00} for 141 months thereafter.

Consumer Complaint: I consolidated my loans with Navient. I tried to enter into a IRP. I filled out the application process several times and each time it was denied or did not go through. My Navient advisor was not helpful, couldn't explain why and would just send me emails stating I should reply yes to get it deferred. There was no explanation of fees or charges and I lost my job while trying to get my loan IRP in order. Navient said deferment was my best option. I was out of work for 5 years and this year went back to work. I was contacted by XXXX a credit recovery service who said my balance from Navient is XXXX and I now in default and owe the total XXXX. My original loan had now ballooned to double the amount owed and the loans through Navient are in default. My other loans through XXXX are in good order. I have tried to get an explanation, log on to my Navient account and am unable to do so. I was fraudulently charged double my loan with no notification or explanation. Issue: Struggling to repay your loan

Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments

Consumer Complaint: I have contacted Navient on three different occasions this year ( not including my initial application ) regarding my current IBR loan payment that is causing serious financial burden. I have uploaded my income information and submitted the form requested each time only to again be told they still need my form or my income information again. XX/XX/2018 has been a very difficult year financially as I had major XXXX for XXXX and have been struggling to pay the medical bills that came with XXXX and at the same time pay other medical bills due to other XXXX XXXX issues. I supplied Navient with proof of loss of income for the almost 2 months and they ignored it and forced me into a forbearance rather than a financial deferment that I actually requested. To add insult the injury my loan jumped {$11000.00} plus in just one month prior to my IBR being renewed. The calculations that they claim are correct are not consistent with their own website when I use their online calculator to figure out what the loan would be I got different totals. The loan since this summer has been growing exponentially. Currently, there is a $ XXXX monthly payment due that I can not pay due to the aforementioned, and I have again called and submitted additional income information, but I'm concerned that their games will negatively effect my credit in the interim. My monthly payment has never been this high in the over 10 plus years I've had the loan and with my income so low it doesn't make any sense that it should be this high.
