Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer
Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2018 I made a {$1000.00} payment to Navient via bank transfer. The amount was never credited to my Navient account. On XX/XX/18 I emailed Navient about this problem. They replied on XX/XX/18 to say they needed a trace number for the transfer. I requested the trace number from my credit union and sent it on to Navient via their document upload feature on XX/XX/2018. My account was never updated. I sent a follow up email to Navient in late winter/early spring 2018 ( I ma not sure of exact date, as I can find no way on Navient site to locate emails I have sent them, only emails from them ). I received no response. When I have tried to contact Navient Customer Service at XXXX I encounter a computerized system that provides no options for contacting a live person about this problem.

Consumer Complaint: Navient has not been providing information with who my private student payments are being made towards. When I made inquiry, no one from customer service nor a supervisor with Navient would explain where my payments are going. The for-profit culinary school I had attended from XXXX-XXXX ( initially named " XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX '' and then " XXXX XXXX XXXX- XXXX '' ) has since dissolved as an institution. I am looking to have my student loan payment lowered if I can not get the loan discharged.

Consumer Complaint: I have student loans beginning in XX/XX/XXXX thru XX/XX/XXXX. When it was time to reconcile my loans in XX/XX/XXXX, I wasn't working and when I called Navient to see if I could make $ XXXX monthly payments, they put me on forbearance. I had no idea what this was but it eliminated my payment so I went along with it. This also happened in XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX. I was willing to make minimum payments of up to $ XXXX/month, but was not given that option. I also had no idea that interest was accumulating at a rapid rate and as of this date I owe {$1800.00} in interest. When I decided to look into what my options were, I was shocked to learn that there were 4 different income based plans that I could apply for. These were never explained to me. Recently I lost my job and called to ask if my $ XXXX/month payment could be lowered, I was told no that I would be put on deferment. I think this is terrible that I am willing to pay a monthly payment but am being told no. I am not sure what this is doing to my interest. Would the interest amount be different if I had been making small monthly payments the past 3 years? I want to file a complaint.

Consumer Complaint: I decided to conduct a self audit of my student loans with Navient. In looking through the payment and balance history, there is a period of time from XX/XX/XXXX- XX/XX/XXXXwhere principle payments made on the loan INCREASED my loan balance rather than decreased the loan balance. I have reached out to Navient regarding this and I am waiting for their response.

Consumer Complaint: I have been trying to pay on this loan because it already has my credit messed up. I cant afford the payments and I have begged them to lower it for me. I want to pay it but cant afford what they are asking. It makes me regret even getting my degree and want to tell my children not to go to college because they harass you and you get frustrated and don't know what to do because I cant afford this. If I can pay XXXX a month, I know it will take a while for me to pay it off but it is showing them that I want to make payments. I keep getting fees added on and it just making the total larger and larger. I cant do this! I am XXXX because I want to pay them and they are not willing to help me in paying an amount that I can afford. I see why people commit suicide due to things like this, I feel like I'm drowning when it comes to this. I NEED HELP!!!

Consumer Complaint: In XXXX, I was laid off from employment. I tried to get my payments deferred for a short period of time. In order to do so, I was required to pay {$150.00} for a 6 month deferral. Once this was up, payments restarted. Intrest was variable and between XXXX and XXXX I asked about lowering the amount of the loan. I went over all of my finances and they told me they couldn't lower them, but also wanted to know how I expected to pay them with XXXX dollars left after my other bills. I told them I would be able to. After several months they sent me to their collections department. They then wanted {$18000.00} to settle. In XXXX they sent me to a separate collections agency who then tried to get me to put {$14000.00} on a credit card to pay off the loan. I refused to do so. Thursday, XX/XX/XXXX yet another creditor called me wanting the same, for me to place the loan settlement amount in full onto a credit card. I couldn't negotiate payment with them in any way, So they sent me to collections and quickly to a creditor though they still claim to own the loan, and now want me to charge that amount in debt to a credit card with around 23 % interest, which I can not and will not do.

Consumer Complaint: Navient makes it impossible to log into the website to pay bills. Despite having a working login one day, the next day it is impossible to log in. I have my login information correct and despite this, it notifies me that I have entered incorrect log in information and only have 3 attempts total before having to physically call the company hotline to reset my password. This is clear predatory behavior that only benefits Navient as it increases interest paid and prevents the aspiring generation from being able to pay off their debts. Furthermore, Navient makes obvious attempts to misallocate loan payments and intentionally confuse their customers in order to again, keep interest payments high.

Consumer Complaint: I have been paying loans with Navient for 13 years. My balance has gone roughly from {$20000.00} to {$15000.00}. Periodically, XXXX XXXX sends me a notification that my Navient balance has increased suddenly and quite severely. The last one being over {$1000.00}. I am never late- I've never been in default. I can not seem to get my balance to decrease and finally pay it off. I don't qualify for Student Loan Forgiveness because of the type of loan I have, I think? I want to know why my balance increases sharply periodically and why this loan isn't closer to being paid off.

Consumer Complaint: I have been trying to work with Navient the past two years in trying to get my payments lowered on my account, I have over {$150000.00} in debt and they are no help. When I first called about the situation all they did was just tell me to get a forbearance because they said thats all I could do .. I called a couple of months later and they in XX/XX/2018 and the told me I could get lower payments after I made 3 payments of {$530.00}. So I set those payments up and in the process of it they brought my account current with a disaster forbearance which they have done multiple times and with request to remove them They said they couldnt do that ... I then called almost everyday to see if I needed to keep the payments on file or would I be on the program or I dont, I was told multiple times that I would be fine and in the program and every representative I spoke with told me it was fine because I had other bills and expenses to pay. When I came off of the forbearance I was not in the program and they told me that it was my fault and I didnt do the payments they told me to. I told them to review the accounts and the calls and they told me they didnt which I know they didnt because they claim I havent talked to anyone which I know I did and my fianc has been with me every call I even spoke with a manager. I do not feel as though my situation would be as bad if they would have helped me from the beginning. They have called me 6 times a day before harassing me everyday and I could be on the phone with someone and here they go calling. I have been giving forbearances when I advised them I cant afford the payment and they tell me thats all they can do ..
