Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled
Consumer Complaint: I enclosed a letter dated XX/XX/XXXX with my monthly XXXX payment of {$110.00} + {$100.00} Principal that included explicit instructions for handling any overpayments ( payments over the amount billed ) I might make. This letter and payment due on XX/XX/XXXX was received by Navient on XX/XX/XXXX and the letter also instructed Navient to retain the instructions and apply them to all future over payments. These instructions included directives to apply any over payments to the principal balance of the loan with the highest interest rate, and not to reduce my monthly payment or put my loans into Paid Ahead status, etc. For my XXXX monthly payment due XX/XX/XXXX, I sent a check in the amount of {$1200.00} which was received by Navient on XX/XX/XXXX. After this payment was processed by Navient, my next monthly billing statement dated XX/XX/XXXX and due XX/XX/XXXX from Navient was for only {$58.00} as were all subsequent bills. When I paid my XXXX, XXXX and XXXX bills I enclosed a letter asking them to put my payment amount back to {$110.00} and asking them to explain why they changed it against my explicit instructions not to. I have received no explanation to date and my monthly payment remains at {$58.00} despite my repeated requests. As best I can tell, it looks like Navient stopped billing me {$26.00} for Loan XXXX almost like it was put into " paid ahead '' status, and they also stopped billing me another {$32.00} as well. Note that Loan XXXX is currently the loan with the highest interest rate! I have attached the following documentation : - My XX/XX/XXXX letter and payment handling instructions to Navient - My XX/XX/XXXX letter asking for an explanation and to have my payment changed back to {$110.00} - My XX/XX/XXXX letter asking for an explanation and to have my payment changed back to {$110.00} - Navient Loan Information dated XX/XX/XXXX prior to my {$1200.00} payment and showing {$110.00} due - Navient Loan Information dated XX/XX/XXXX after my {$1200.00} payment and showing {$58.00} due and {$0.00} due for Loan XXXX

In the fall of XXXX and XXXX of XXXX, two of my fellow nongraduating classmates each received letters from the US Department of Education stating their loans had been discharged by a " Closed School Claim ''. Additionally they received checks returning any payments made toward the loans. I made several attempts to contact my loan lenders ( Navient and XXXX XXXX XXXX, and they both failed to provide any clear resolution.

Consumer Complaint: XXXX XXXX issued an intensely high and very aggressive loan for a XXXX college- XXXX XXXX XXXX college XXXX XX/XX/XXXX to myself. All portions of the loan were not discussed nor did I sign any type of promissory note. The loan application indicates they provide quarterly interest statements. In XXXX I began receiving calls from a loan company called Navient stating i had to pay back over XXXX dollars and my payments would only cover my interest. Upon further investigation I found that the loan that was dispersed to me personally was in fact a private loan that had been misrepresented to me by the school and XXXX XXXX. I have tried to work with the Navient company and they refuse to work with me in reducing this debt and also discussing why 10 years this loan was allowed to accumulate interest with no communication with the original company.

Consumer Complaint: After completing my course and paying on my loan for 13 years they refused to release my cosigner. The school I attended at the time has gone out of business so I was unable to get a copy of my completion certificate. I lost my original and tried to get another only to discover the school had gone out of business. I have been paying on this loan for 13 yrs, what difference does if make if I completed the course? Whether I completed it or not, I am still obligated to repay the loan. Not having a certificate saying I completed the course does not justify not releasing a cosigner after 13 yrs of payments. I just found out one of the Navient law suits is about cosigner releases.

Consumer Complaint: Hello, I made a payment of {$740.00} on XX/XX/XXXX. I called on XX/XX/XXXX to have the payment directed to my Dept of Ed loan. I was in informed the first time that it would be done by XX/XX/XXXX. Since then, I have called multiple times including today XX/XX/XXXX and have been given a different date each time. I am super disappointed in how my payment is handled and due to the lackadaisical approach, the interest continuously increases. This money of {$740.00} I am expecting to go straight to my principal but with this incredibly long delay, I am unsure. I have already called four times to inquire about redirected payment and I am on week 3 of still waiting for that payment to be processed. All I keep getting is that it is in process and a different date for when it will be taken care of. Well guess what its NOT!

Consumer Complaint: Upon entering my repayment period, upon graduation in XX/XX/2011, I was unemployed and needed to reduce my payments to their lowest possible amount. I was repeatedly advised to choose forbearance rather than IBR despite being eligible for the latter and despite the fact that the latter would result in a $ 0 monthly payment and the former resulting in accruing more interest.

Consumer Complaint: Navient, whom I don't know, have called many of my neighbors, who I barely know, asking them for contact information on me because they are trying to collect on a student loan. They leave the phone number XXXX for m neighbors to call them back with this information. They are basically telling strangers about my business that is none of their business. My student loans were never with a company called Navient.

Consumer Complaint: The problem I am having with Navient is that they are failing to correctly allocate payments to my student loan. I have three students loans with Navient ; a privet and two Federal that are consolidated. My problem is with the Federal loan. Since XXXX I have been doing over payments to the Federal loan portion that has the lowest outstanding principal. As of XXXX statement, my outstanding balance for the loan was {$2400.00}. After making the over payment for XXXX, when I verify the statement, the outstanding balance increased to {$4200.00}. I've called Navient several times ( XX/XX/2010, XXXX, and XX/XX/XXXX XXXX to get an explanation of what happen and to fix the problem. Their customer service people were not helpful. At least I found out that all the over payments I did, after been apply to the correct loan ( per my instructions in my profile setting ) where reverted and apply to the loan portion with the highest outstanding balance. I want for Navient to follow correctly my over payment instructions. I still have a long way to pay my student loans, I don't want to deal with Navient 's purposely confusing and misleading information. Their practice are deceptive at best and fraudulent at worst.
