Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled

Consumer Complaint: Since Navient took over my student loans, Ive had nothing but problems. I dont think the company is applying my payments to my loan. Ive been requesting my student loan tax document multiple times since early this year. However, Navient refuses to provide me with this document. I had to file my taxes without my student loan information from Navient. It is XXXX and I still havent received my student loan tax document from Navient!!!!!!!!!!!!! The company stated that I had several payment options including applying for an Income Based Repayment Plan to avoid default. I applied and was approved for an income based repayment plan of {$100.00} in XX/XX/2019. Even though I dont know where my payments are going, I sent payments of {$100.00} in XXXX and XX/XX/2019. However, Navient is still threatening to default my loan. This company is a scam. They are back to their silly games of refusing to send me my bill statements again now also. They dont want me to know my account information.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled

Consumer Complaint: Hello! I had 7 loans from Navient part of my student loan program. I graduated and was on the income re-driven payment plan, and then my plan expired, Navient called me, and I told them I would like to continue to stay on the plan, and they said that is fine. A few months later I look at my credit report and I see 21 Items as 90 Days late. 7 Late to XXXX, 7 Late to XXXX, 7 Late to XXXX. I contacted Navient, and they said I did not fill out a new form to qualify for the income re-driven payment plan. That's funny because the agent I spoke to never even mentioned anything about me having to fill something out. All she asked is if I wanted to remain on the loan. I never received an email about this either. They claimed they sent it to my old .edu email, but I told them previously to change my email, and they never did. I haven't had access to my .edu email which was connected to my account. I sent Navient two letters, made many phone calls and they still blamed me entirely that I am responsible for my student loans. They apologized for the agent not notifying me, but that doesn't help, if the agent told me that day I needed to submit a new form, I would have, instead of having 7 student loans late per credit bureau. I worked with a credit repair company and they didn't help at all, so I just lost a bunch of money for an entire year trying to fix this. I then stumbled upon several articles on nerdwallet and forbes that discuss navient being sued for several reasons and one of the reasons they are being sued are for the same thing i experienced. They do not tell their borrowers that they need to resubmit a form for the income re-driven payment plan. They are a terrible company and feed off postgraduates making mistakes. Navient has since destroyed my credit history. I will have 21 late payments just from them for the next 7 years impacting me. It will be hard to open any credit accounts or any loans if need be for the next 7 years, and they don't seem to care, nor do they acknowledge that they are partly responsible for this. Do not trust Navient as your student loan borrower. They will do anything to ruin your credit history, they will do anything to try and steal money from you, and they will most definitely not help you with changing anything on your loan. Issue: Struggling to repay your loan

Subissue: Can't temporarily delay making payments

Consumer Complaint: I got laid off last XX/XX/XXXX, I was not delinquent with Sallie Mae at that time. After I got laid off, with no unemployment monies, I got sick and almost died, I was in the ICU for a week. I gradually got my health back and found employment in XX/XX/XXXX but was terminated in XX/XX/XXXX due to something that was not in my control. I am currently not working, getting a little unemployment, just enough to pay my car payment and car insurance. I know this does not excuse me from my debt. I have been trying to work with Sallie Mae since XX/XX/XXXX. I had set up a auto-deduct payment, but that is when I got terminated and had to cancel my auto-deduct. They have been very hard to work with since. We spoke with their loan people about the ability to pay and my payment before I got laid off in XX/XX/XXXX was under {$200.00}, now it is over {$300.00}. I told them I could not pay that nor could my mother, cosigner of the loan. When I spoke with a Sallie Mae rep XX/XX/XXXX, she hung up on me when I told her I was making around {$400.00} every 2 weeks on unemployment and could pay nothing that day. I have spoken with a rep since the beginning of XX/XX/XXXX and she stated she could take a {$100.00} but that my payments would then be over {$300.00} and again I stated I was not working and that there was no money. She was sorry she couldn't defer/forebear. A XXXX XXXX (? ) has been calling and leaving threatening messages and stating that I have not contacted Sallie Mae when in fact you can see that I have. We have written 4 letters to them asking for forbearance/deferment and asking for something in writing and yet they continue to call and put nothing in writing for us. I would like for them to either put my account in forbearance/deferment or lower my payment to where it was before so that I can make the payment.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan

Subissue: Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan

Consumer Complaint: Since graduating from school in XX/XX/2009, I have made my private student loan payments every month as required. I expected to have a monthly payment. However, the interest that is charged is a complete and unfortunate scam. I have paid nearly {$35000.00} towards interest since taking out loans ( I will add, I was only XXXX years old when I first went to college ). Now that it is nearly 15 years later, I am still struggling in paying off my loans at XXXX years old as a single parent. I have a great career and I work very hard, however there are no options to get my principal balance down and to live a normal life. I regret taking out these loans at age XXXX with little to no understanding of how it would ruin my future along with my child 's future. I make a good living but I can not live a good life. My student loans have ruined my life. Since XX/XX/2009, only about {$7000.00} have been applied towards my principal balance while Sallie May ( Navient ) have gladly taken nearly {$40000.00} in interest because Im liable for making that monthly payment. Navient has taken over my future and I would have been better off without an education that is this costly. No one signs up for this type of debt willingly at age XXXX nor could a XXXX year old understand what type of debt they could fall into during repayment after graduation. The daily interest accrual is unjust nor should I have been given loans at such a young age without fully understanding the nightmare I was getting into. I make my payments every month because I understand I borrowed money for my education - HOWEVER - I did not sign up for this interest scam. My principal balance barely changes every month but I keep paying a huge payment because that is my duty as a borrower. Interest should not be a chance to take advantage of consumers but give a consumer a chance to pay off their debt!! I don't live a good life because of Sallie Mae ( now Navient ), and neither does my child.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan

Subissue: Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan

Consumer Complaint: I've been trying to setup an affordable payment plan with Navient since XXXX of this year when my IBR plan that I consistently have paid for a couple-few years now expired/needed to be renewed. I've been misinformed several times on phone calls over the past few months and was told one month ago ( third attempt of processing application for affordable plan ) that my payment would be lowered in time for the due date this month because I had made the {$5.00} payment to reset the account into the new plan. Someone on their end failed to submit the paperwork in time so the website still says I owe an amount significantly higher than what it should be. The staff is rude and unwilling to help when I call and quickly offers to set my account up for forbearance every single time I call. I just want help getting an affordable payment amount and don't trust that it is going to happen after speaking to a supervisor.

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled

Consumer Complaint: XXXX XXXX Navient Office of the Customer Advocate XXXX XXXX XXXX, PA XXXX Account # XXXX RE : Income-based repayment plans Account # XXXX Good day, I have received my new IBR payment information, and wish to inform you that you have miscalculated. Last years XXXX income-based repayment amount was XXXX and based on my salary of {$65000.00}. This year, you have raised the supposedly income-based repayment up to {$710.00}? The increase seems excessive, as based on the 10 % of gross income formula the correct amount would be much closer to {$590.00}. Your company has deliberately withheld the necessary information for getting that recalculation done for MONTHS, ignored my letter to do so and ample information regarding my current income, and continued to overcharge me. I am including a new IBR request and a copy of a recent paycheck. You will IMMEDIATELY recalculate my IBR based on my actual income, as you have been asked to do multiple times over the last few months. I live in XXXX, which currently has one of the highest costs of living in the nation, and can not be expected to sit by quietly while you take more than your due. I have never missed a payment to anyone who has held my loans ( including XXXX XXXX, who dispersed my loans to debt collectors rather than obey the laws regarding IBR ), and except for a few brief deferments have been paying steadily since the year XXXX. I would like to know when I might reasonably expect loan forgiveness from Navient, as it is usually offered after 20-25 years. And, by law, you only have a right to only 15 % of my DISCRETIONARY income ( which amounts to approximately $ XXXXmonth after expenses ), and NOT 15 % or greater of my gross income, you will abide by the law, and immediately adjust the IBR amount down to the expected amount. I am happy to provide receipts as required to prove the amount of my discretionary income. Kindly respond in writing, so that I may share your answer with all those I have Ccd on this letter. Thank you for your attention to this matter, and its rapid resolution.

Consumer Complaint: I am a former graduate ( times 2 ) of the now closed XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, PA campus. Admissions " counselors, '' financial aid " advisors, '' and other staff were very misleading about the ability to find a job with their programs. After graduating summa cum laude with a 3.96 GPA in XX/XX/XXXX, I realized that my degree was useless. Upon advice from " admissions counselors '' I could ABSOLUTELY go for the XXXX XXXX program to not only extend my deferment but to also " pad my resume. '' So, I did. They're admissions counselors right? They know what's best right? Sure. I graduated a second time with an XXXX XXXX XXXX in " XXXX XXXX '' to find out that it is also, worthless. I was working for a ( now defunct ) debt collection lawfirm as a XXXX and upon notifying the head attorney of the firm that I graduated, he stated to me verbatim, " I'm not paying you more, I could have started you at {$10.00} an hour. '' I quit. Since then I've been working dead end jobs in fast food and retail just to get by, let alone pay for massive debt incurred from XXXX. Which brings me to the reason for my complaint. Navient never told me that I could qualify for an IBR or anything really until I was already in forbearance. I explained to them on numerous occasions in XX/XX/XXXX-XX/XX/XXXX about this. They advised me that foreberance was the only option. So not only did I fall victim to a predatory school and believed their lies TWICE, but now, I'm stuck with a foreberance which could have been avoided. I have since contacted the XXXX the " escalated '' navient line, and I also filed a report with the ombudsman. Navient is predatory. XXXX, XXXX XXXX, and XXXX XXXX XXXX college are all predatory. This isn't right, and now we suffer.

Consumer Complaint: I am a Veteran, my income is {$2000.00} a month. I have XXXX children, rent, bills etc. Sallie Mae is not allowing me to lower monthly payments or even delay payments based on my income. I believe Sallie Mae is systematically and illegally setting me up for failure in repayment - they are giving me the run around, putting obstacles in the way to prevent repayment and has failed to act in my complaint - in an effort to make me pay much more than what my loan really is. I am facing unemployment or other financial hardship, and applied for a XXXX - XXXX XXXX XXXX and an alternative repayment plan for modification of loan terms. No income-driven repayment plan was provided to make my student loans more affordable. I bring in {$2000.00} a month, I am a single mother of XXXX children, my rent is {$1500.00} - I am struggling right now. Sallie Mae , Inc. has not gone through every stage of repayment for both private and federal loans and are making my student loans more difficult and costly for me. No notices are sent to me and I have accrued interest to my principal balance, lost protections, - there is no loan forgiveness. Sallie Mae , Inc. has harmed my credit and I am a XXXX borrower - an XXXX veteran, whose XXXX is connected to my military service yet have not been given loan forgiveness under the federal XXXX and XXXX XXXX discharge program. Sallie Mae , Inc. said they would remove all adverse information about the defaulted loan from my credit report and I believe Sallie Mae , Inc. is in violation of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act and I have been harmed due to Sallie Mae , Inc. 's illegal practices.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled

Consumer Complaint: Working with Navient is a real problem and back in XX/XX/XXXX there were communication issues of how much were the payments and how to afford them. Many discussions were had and yet they still reported me late multiple times which is now affecting me from getting a house at the age of XXXX. I always make my payments on time when I know the amounts and since XX/XX/XXXX I have never missed. The part that confuses me is when my account info says the original principal balance is {$4700.00} yet the unpaid principal is {$6400.00}. My loan is suppose to be at 11.75 % interest yet the amount of interest applied after each payment keeps going up. I am paying XXXX monthly and my account says I should be paying {$78.00} until XX/XX/XXXX. If i keep paying this amount till XX/XX/XXXX i will have paid like XXXX. I have paid so much in interest it should already be paid. Navient csr said i agreed to a 20 year payoff but why would i do that when the original amount was near XXXX. I am a XXXX XXXX XXXX and my district said that Navient will take advantage of you so try to refinance it to get away from them. I think I am believing them. Those late payments should be wiped out after being current for so long. Please make them go away!
