Issue: Struggling to repay your loan
Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments
Consumer Complaint: I initially took out student loans ( private and federal ) thru XXXX XXXX to attend the XXXX of XXXX University ( XXXX ). In total I graduated with over {$90000.00} USD in debt. After my grace period ( 6 months ), I had problems playing the monthly on the loan. I had to go onto both forbearance and deferment. I had to refinance the loans and did so with XXXX XXXX ( which become Navient ). It became a 30 year payment plan. It was about 2 years before I started making monthly payments to the loan, starting around XXXX. The loan accrued to close to {$140000.00} USD. From XXXX on I made monthly payments. I paid ranging from {$750.00} USD a month to {$1000.00} USD every single month. Year after year. It is now XX/XX/XXXX and it's been 16 years. I have not missed a loan payment yet. On my account it still says I have {$81000.00} left to pay off all loans. Doing the math, 16 years, at {$750.00} a month comes to {$140000.00}!! The loan is supposed to be paid out by XXXX. By then I would have paid out {$250000.00}!! I will be XXXX XXXX XXXX. I have contacted Navient regarding my loans and they say there is nothing that can be done in terms of refinance or anything else. I requested my original promissory note and they could only give records that were incomplete in terms of payments. It seems criminal that I have yet to dent the loan amount. I have not been able to buy a house or have children because of all of this. I feel I am being manipulated and taken advantage by a loan provider that hides charges, payments, loses paperwork for account history, and ultimately I will have almost tripled the amount I originally took out. I feel I have been deceived my this loan provider in order to squeeze more money out of me then I originally signed to take for my college education. Their practices must be investigated.

Consumer Complaint: I received a email from the DOE in XX/XX/2022 that stated all my loans are to be discharged, due to a group discharge for school misconduct of all XXXX XXXX. I attended XXXX which is a XXXX XXXX from XXXX. The email also stated I did not to file any XXXX application. My loans are serviced by Navient and have been in constant contact with them about this. Last correspondence was that my loans were going to be placed in an administrative forbearance until they hear from the DOE about my specific discharge. The DOE said that there is thousands involved in the discharge and it is just a waiting game until they get to me. I am a part of a XXXX XXXX with others in the same situation. Many have already received their loan discharges. But it seems the XXXX loans by Navient are taking the longest to get to for some reason. This was supposed to be a swift process. The DOE just keeps saying they have no timeframe. Ive asked why Navient has not even received any documentation from the DOE stating my loans are to be discharged. They just have the email I provided them as proof. Others have at least received updates/paperwork that the DOE approved their discharged. I have not received anything. Ive asked repeatedly for the DOE XXXX department to at least contact Navient to State my loans will be getting discharged. And they have refused and just keep saying to wait. Again just to be clear, my loans are already in administrative forbearance status.

Consumer Complaint: My family paid off my student loans, which totaled right around XXXX between my grandfather and my mother. This was a significantly small amount of the total around {$3500.00} if memory serves. A few months go by and all the sudden Im getting collection calls from this company about the same loan that is paid off. At this point I was much younger and had no clue what to do, the loan they are calling about was originated the same day this other one was paid off supposedly. Although I had never taken out another loan. I have tried for years to get them to do anything other than put me on hold for extremely long stretches of time, to no avail. Im stuck this loan was paid in full years ago!

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2023 I noticed on my credit report inaccurate information reported by Navient Corporation. I noticed a 90 day late payment on my credit report therefore dropped my credit score XXXX points. I have been in the IBR plan and I never got a notice for late payment for 30 days or for 60 days. We are still under the Covid Relief Law 15-U.S Code furnishers of information to consumer report agencies. I tried to reach out to Navient with no luck they have refused to help. I would appreciate it if this Late Payment Remark be removed from my Credit Report as I have been in good standing and we are still under the Covid Relief Law.

Consumer Complaint: I requested proof of the alleged late status and I have not yet received any documentation. Navient never sent documents in the mail, communicating the account status. I am requesting that the file be reviewed for accuracy and updated accordingly. The items reported and disputed were not validated by the credit reporting agencies nor Navient. The late payments remain on my account with the credit bureaus and they have not been properly verified.

Consumer Complaint: In XXXX I had my XXXX XXXX and XXXX XXXX Subsidized loans consolidated with XXXX XXXX ; these were subsequently serviced by Navient. In XX/XX/XXXX I requested a temporary forbearance due to COVID-19 and the fact that my FFELP consolidation loans were not a part of the student loan pause created by the CARES act. They had me believe this was my only option and that I was not eligible to reconsolidate these loans to take advantage of the student loan pause and more importantly to me the pause on student loan interest. I resumed payments in XX/XX/XXXX and have continued to make payments on time, and often above the minimum amount due, throughout this time. I have recently ( XX/XX/XXXX ) become aware that I am able to apply for a Direct consolidation loan and immediately applied after learning this from a studentaid.gov representative. I have contacted Navient ( XX/XX/XXXX ) asking if there were any way to adjust my account and remove the interest charged during this time and apply it towards the principal and was told the only thing they can do is a forbearance or possibly lower my payments. This is a company that no longer services federal student loans, yet is allowed to continue to deceive it's customers and profit from the misinformation it provides. I have paid thousands of dollars in interest during this time that would have all gone towards the principal had I consolidated with direct loans years ago as a direct result of this deception by Navient.

Consumer Complaint: On Thursday XX/XX/XXXX a notice was posted about Navients AG Settlement. According to the guidelines on the Navient XXXX settlement website, section 9 of the web pages states " Who is eligible for private loan debt cancellation? '' and in that section it states that one must : 1 ) Have taken out sub-prime loans through XXXX from schools listed on the site between XXXX and XXXX XXXX ) Have fallen behind on payments by more than XXXX months at some point before XX/XX/XXXX. The settlement ended on XX/XX/XXXX. Going off both of those guidelines, I was told that I didn't qualify due to the fact I was never in default. My accounts were opened in XXXX of XXXX and XXXX of XXXX with XXXX XXXX at the XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, owned by the XXXX at the time. According to my credit reports back then, I have defaulted into charge-off status in XXXX, right after the separation of XXXX XXXX and Navient XXXX and been in delinquency along the way til now, which indicates that I qualify for the private debt relief.
