Issue: Written notification about debt

Subissue: Didn't receive enough information to verify debt

Consumer Complaint: I disputed this collection through the CRAs many times, and each time it was verified. I mailed a debt validation letter directly to National Credit Systems on XX/XX/XXXX. No response. I mailed a similar letter to the property manager on XX/XX/XXXX. No response. I was forced to leave apartment due to ownership change and new rules about pets immediately, with no warning. I am asking for a complete breakdown of the {$2700.00} charges.I have no idea what these charges could be for? I left the apartment in cleaner and in better condition than when I moved in. The only response I have received was a settlement offer from NCS on XX/XX/XXXX, so NCS can find me.

Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed

Subissue: Debt is not yours

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX or XXXX, XXXX I left an apartment complex. I filed out paperwork in the leasing office, and both my ex and I signed and paid to have me released from the lease. We gota divorce and our debts were then declared our own. In summer, I believe XXXX, of XXXX I noticed a new debt on my credit report from the apartment. It was for {$880.00}. I called the apartment and explained to them the problem, and the apartment number they had the debt for I never even lived in. Yhey claimed to have switched mangement and were no longer able to find my paperwork getting me off the lease, but called the debtors to correct the apartment number. I offered to show proof that I had left the apartment in XXXX of XXXX after only signing a lease in XXXX of XXXX. I was told both times I called that they would fix it. They have not. I called the creditor in XXXX as well, they refused to even hear me, they refused to accept my proof that I had left. And when I told them my divorce states that my exes debts are theirs, they refused to take me off the debts. Holding me responsible for debts that don't belong to me. I have since had the report removed from my XXXX XXXX account and just from that my score is 100 pts higher than it is on XXXX because of this false debt. The complex are frauds, and so are the debt collectors. The collectors call me now three times a day from two different phone numbers to collect a debt that never belonged to me in the first place. They said they would email me with a response to my claim that the debt doesn't belong to me, that was before the new year. I haven't heard anything back, but I keep getting phone calls and my credit remains stagnant with their false reporting.

Issue: Problem with a credit reporting company's investigation into an existing problem

Subissue: Their investigation did not fix an error on your report

Consumer Complaint: About 5 years ago my personal information was compromised and my identity was stolen. Over the passed few years I have noticed inquiries on my credit that I did not authorize and had no prior knowledge of, Sometimes it was accounts ( cable, phone, utilities ) most were easy to prove fraud. Beginning in XXXX I saw these instances become more frequent for a while it was over 30 per week. Whenever I learned of these I would contact the companies extending credit and notify them of the fraud. In XXXX I began to notice many apartments showing up, many of which were actually signed leases in my name and some were just applications. A lot had utilities connected in my name as well. Last year, I learned a XXXX person named XXXX XXXX was arrested in XXXX FL for fraud and counterfeit charges I contacted the apartments and learned he was claiming to be me and had an apartment in my name that was in default, he was giving the office fake checks to pay rent and was thousands of dollars in debt in my name. I have police reports and FTC filing but can get nowhere with the bureaus, collection agencies or creditors. I need assistance getting my life. Back. The companies are : -XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX 1 ) XXXX XXXX XXXX XX/XX/XXXX {$4600.00} 2 ) XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX XX/XX/XXXX {$270.00} 3 ) XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX {$370.00} 4 ) XXXX XXXX XX/XX/XXXX {$320.00} 5 ) XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX XX/XX/XXXX {$100.00} - XXXX XXXX XXXX 1 ) XXXX XXXX XXXX XX/XX/XXXX {$3300.00} - XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX 1 ) XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XX/XX/XXXX {$4700.00} - XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XX/XX/XXXX {$540.00} -XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX XX/XX/XXXX {$160.00} -XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XX/XX/XXXX {$450.00} XXXXXXXX XXXX XX/XX/XXXX {$300.00} These are the ones currently showing. Issue: Written notification about debt

Subissue: Notification didn't disclose it was an attempt to collect a debt

Consumer Complaint: My lease was up XX/XX/XXXX, paid rent & additional charges to include sewage, water & garbage. I was told that everything on the account was paid in full & no special instructions were given to move out. I was told to clean & leave the apartment as it given to me. I was charged for a tv XXXX satellite not being removed, which was not explained to me as a requirement to do before I moved. Also, the blinds I was charged for were chipped when I moved into the apartment 4 years ago. The damages that were stated are normal wear & tear and also petty complaints. XX/XX/XXXX I receive a collection notice from national credit systems that XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX states I owe a bill. My security deposit was already taken due to the complex stating somethings were damaged & not clean ( after I moved to another state ) No one did a walk thru with me to notate things proposed issues. After taking the security deposit now I have a bill from a credit agency saying I still owe for outstanding balance on my account, which is not true. Also there was no notification of debt to the forwarding address, which is out of state.

Issue: Written notification about debt

Subissue: Didn't receive enough information to verify debt

Consumer Complaint: I am being denied the right to rent an apartment due to a unverified debt from an apartment complex I lived in by the name of XXXX XXXX almost 6 years ago. When I moved out at the time there was no apparent debt, then when I tried to move I was denied because they are on my credit report. I tried to call XXXX XXXXXXXX to find out what I actually owed the money for, and was told that the property was sold to another owner, and they had no record of the debt. I called National Credit who now owns the debt and they couldn't verify why I owed them {$430.00}. I have not agreed to this debt as of yet because no one knows why I owe this money. I never received any letter from the apartment stating I owed them prior to them selling it.

Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed

Subissue: Debt is not yours

Consumer Complaint: I called my former apartment complex and was informed that they switched management companies and didnt have anything on file for me. I was advised to call the former management. I called XXXX and was told that they didnt have any information on file either. I moved out of XXXX XXXX apartments on or around XX/XX/2016. I paid the balance owed in full which was {$200.00} and did a full walkthrough with the then XXXX XXXX and was given a clean bill. When speaking with the collection agency, national credit systems, they said the balance is due to unpaid rent and damages, of which there are none. No one is able to provide proof of this as well.

Issue: False statements or representation

Subissue: Impersonated attorney, law enforcement, or government official

Consumer Complaint: This debt originated out of a tenancy with a XXXX property management company. My husband and I vacated the property due to a habitability issue. We complained in writing ( XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX ), gave notice to vacate in writing ( XX/XX/XXXX ), left a forwarding address ( XX/XX/XXXX ), requested our security deposit back ( XX/XX/XXXX ), everything in writing and made copies of all of this for our records. They never gave us a breakdown of what we owed or notified us that they would send it to collections. In XX/XX/XXXX we received demand letters from National Credit Systems ( NCS ) of a debt from our former landlord, with no breakdown or explanation of the debt, only an amount total, and language stating NCS reported the debt to all 3 credit bureaus. The letter also threatened garnishment, liens, and or seizure and auction of personal property. We responded in writing that we denied owing the debt ( XX/XX/XXXX ). We contacted our former landlords in writing at the same time, and again received no response. NCS eventually sent us a breakdown of the fees but would not talk to us about disputing the debt at all. We received demands from an attorney in Georgia, XXXX XXXX XXXX, and also responded to them denying the debt in writing. We then contacted XXXX to begin disputing the reporting of a debt. This year ( XX/XX/XXXX ), my husband called NCS ( phone call on XX/XX/XXXX to the number XXXX extension XXXX ) to dispute the debt and a XXXX XXXX told him that he was NCS 's lawyer and tried to pressure him into paying the entire amount. He asked questions such as, " Did you even leave a forwarding address? '' and " Did you ever ask for your security deposit back? '' When Mr. XXXX began reading through the documents we sent them he could see that we did request our security deposit back and did leave a forwarding address. I mention this because it was clear he had not read the documents we sent NCS. After answering his own questions, he announced " this is going nowhere '' and hung up on my husband. I looked his name up on the Georgia State Bar website and got back no information. We do not trust that this person is a lawyer, especially when a different lawyer contacted us regarding the debt, and we are not comfortable talking to someone like that in negotiation or discussion of any alleged debt when he uses harassing tactics. We are not sure if we should proceed by calling NCS again or the attorney, nor are we sure that by talking to either of them we will get anywhere.
