Consumer Complaint: M & T BANK merged my XXXX account from a Peoples bank where I have been a good customer for 15 years with NO PROBLEMS. When the banks merged in XXXX and XXXX I paid the loan ON TIME and the payment got rejected by the M & T BANK computer system IN ERROR. On XX/XX/XXXX I spoke with XXXX XXXX who set up docusign debit form and told me I was all set- the monthly debits would be made automatically from my XXXX XXXX XXXX account. That never happened. I then called the XXXX bank line FIVE times on XX/XX/XXXX and got hung up by a woman named XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX I asked for a supervisor. When I called back she said she was going to continue to hang up on me and sent my calls to non-working numbers inside the bank. She then reported my account as delinquent to retaliate against me for asking for a supervisor! I then drove over to the local branch in XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX and made an in person payment to XXXX XXXX XXXX the assistant vice president. M & T BANK has done everything possible to XXXX up this account and blame the customer and RETALIATE by sending me notices of Default. I have NEVER missed a payment. M & T BANK is breaking the law.

Issue: Opening an account
Subissue: Unable to open an account
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2022, I attempted to open an M & T Bank MyChoice Checking Premium Checking account online. I made it through the application and created a user ID & password, but was then told that the account could not be opened online and that I should visit a branch. I never did visit a branch and considered the matter closed. Then in XXXX, while visiting my parents for XXXX, they gave me a letter from a collection agency stating that M & T bank had, in fact, opened an account in XXXX, been charging me a monthly fee, and then turned the account to collections. In the initial application, I provided M & T bank with my XXXX XXXX box location in XXXX, XXXX For my physical address, I used my parent 's address since this is the address on my driver 's license. Any mail on this account should've been sent to the mailing address I included in the initial application, not the physical address I only visit a few times per year. This is a secondary point, though, since I was never properly informed that the account was, in fact, opened. I have yet to receive an email, call, or text from the bank concerning this. The only correspondence I ever received was to an incorrect address.

Consumer Complaint: M and T Bank Mortgage department There is no number where you can call and speak to a human. Callers are referred to the web site which doers not help with my issue. I have tried calling the bank repeatedly, but no one answers. In XX/XX/2022 we were notified that our house payment would increase because the mortgage company was requiring flood insurance so they bought a policy for us WITHOUT our knowledge. Their new policy was {$620.00}. No one called us or contacted us in any way! We already had flood insurance on the house I emailed a copy of the declarations page on XX/XX/2022. The refund went to our escrow account. On XX/XX/2022 an electronic payment was, made to XXXX, to pay the house insurance. It was paid in full for the year for a total cost of {$3000.00} My insurance agent confirmed the payment was linked to the mortgage we had with M and T bank. On XX/XX/XXXX, again with out consulting us M and T bank purchased a second home owners policy for over {$3000.00}. The new policy was with XXXX XXXX which charges a much higher rate. Again, It was bought WITHOUT our knowledge. I do notknow what this policy covers, We have received NO letters, phone calls. There was no notice. On XX/XX/2022, we received a letter from M and T mortgage Department telling us they had bought home owners policy with XXXX XXXX and to cancel our XXXX policy. I called XXXX XXXX insurance, and their is no home owner 's policy for our home address or under our names. I tried to update our information, but I get the run around. No one answers the phone. Our escrow account is minus over XXXX because this policy they supposedly bought. I do not know how property taxes will be paid since we have a negative balance.

Consumer Complaint: While reviewing my online checking account at M & T Bank, I noticed a series of unauthorized withdrawals on XX/XX/2022 ( in addition to petty small change amounts ), listed as " XXXX transfers, '' totaling {$400.00} + change. I notified the bank 's XXXX XXXX. at tel. # XXXX, and they froze that checking account and said they would do an investigation that could take up to 90 days. I received, signed and returned an affidavit by mail to the bank, again claiming the fraud. On XX/XX/XXXX, I called the XXXX XXXX Washington XXXX DC branch and asked if I could transfer the checking account funds to my M & T savings account. I spoke with " XXXX '' who confirmed that the funds could be transferred and she could do so on my behalf. Besides the original {$400.00} fraud amount, there were XXXX amounts in the frozen checking account also to be transferred : {$8200.00} and {$1700.00}. On XX/XX/XXXX, I accessed my M & T accounts online and noticed that the {$8200.00} and {$1700.00} we're transferred to my savings on XX/XX/XXXX, but that the {$1700.00} was then immediately withdrawn on that same date, and those withdrawn funds were not transferred back to the frozen checking account ; I've made numerous calls to both the XXXX XXXX, both on XX/XX/XXXX and dates prior, such as on XX/XX/XXXX, to discern the status of the investigation, but nobody answers the fraud line, and all representative tel. Numbers I call and branch I visit ( at XXXX XXXX ) for this bank keep telling me I must deal only with the XXXX XXXX bank XXXX, but they won't/do n't know how/refuse or are purposely involved in this loss of my funds. Further, upon balancing accounts it appears that the original {$400.00} fraud has not been rectified. Therefore, I am at a loss of not only {$1700.00} but also {$400.00}. Please help me recover the loss of my hard-earned money.

Issue: Closing an account
Subissue: Company closed your account
Consumer Complaint: We opened a CD using the funds from our existing joint trust account at M & T Bank. The joint trust was set up and there is no issue with it as per the branch manager. A month later we receive a form letter signed by the local branch manager that they are closing our account. We later found out it was only the CD being closed. When I talked to the branch manager, she was unaware of the letter, and she had not seen or signed it. Over the next few weeks, we provided the branch manager with whatever information she requested. She claimed she was working with her back office to resolve the issue. She claimed that M & T has a different way of doing accounts and the people in her branch set it up wrong due to a lack of experience and training. The bank had possession of all the trust document information from our existing account and there is no issue with it. The funds for the CD came from that account. The letter stated if we took no action the account would be closed, but we were very active with working with the branch manager to resolve the issue. Last week we noticed the funds for the CD ( {$100000.00} ) had been removed from our online account. This alarmed my wife and she tried to contact the branch manager who was not available with time off. She sent through an email to the branch manager, and it was answered two days later stating she had escalated this to senior management. The next day she called back and informed my wife the account was closed by corporate, and the money removed without our authorization. She said a check was being put in the mail to my home address. This seems to be a poor way to handle my money and the lack of being customer focused when the issue was their mistake in setting up the account.

Consumer Complaint: I became 100 % XXXX rating with the Veterans Affairs and am now property tax exempt. I submitted all required paperwork to have my mortgage loan adjusted accordingly. Once doing so, I was advised that it would take 5 business days for an escrow analysis to be completed. Once completed an escrow refund was to be sent. It has been two months with no resolution. I have called countless times, spoke to countless employees and supervisors and each one gives me false information or countless excuses. I was advised not to pay this months mortgage due to these funds being adjusted, it is now late and have a missed payment. Please help me get my funds returned to me.

Consumer Complaint: Sometime in the last 2 months I opened a new account with M & T Bank ( and I specify sometime as a range because they have handed me several different dates throughout this. ) On the XXXX of XX/XX/2022, My fiance XXXX XXXX sent me {$28.00} through XXXX so we could attempt to use my new account to pay a bill. When I attempted to pay the bill I began getting error notices. I attempted to charge the card elsewhere and continued to get error notices. It was then I attempted to XXXX the money back to my fiance 's account and was told I could not do that. Immediately, I began attempting to contact the bank about the issue. One agent said my card was valid and there was no reason I could not use my account. Confused about the error, she sent me to another agent who told me, there was a hold on my account over paperwork. They sent me to another agent who said no, your account is being investigated for fraud. They sent me to their fraud department, who told me they could not do anything and would need to visit my local branch in person to get my funds and fix my account. I have no transportation so I attempted to reach out to M & T through email, it took a couple days for them to respond. On the XXXX I received an email they told me was to go into a branch location, have THEM call the number on the hold and they can fix everything. On the XXXX of XX/XX/2022, I went to the M & T bank location at : XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX, MD XXXX, with my ID, fiance and children. We were taken into a back office with a special banker, XXXX XXXX. XXXX claimed she could see no hold or issue with the account. After attempting to get her to understand what the emails and ALL THE AGENTS before her said, we finally just tried to have them release the funds from the account so we could stop doing business with them. XXXX had me fill out a withdrawal slip and disappeared out of the room. When she returned, all she had was a business card with a phone number on it and told us if we ever want our money or to use the account, WE would have to call the number and have them fix it. When we called the number we were told a location/banker needs to call them and they could not help us. Not wanting to waste anymore time with people who obviously have mine and my families best interest last, I decided to see how to file against the establishment, and here I am. Any assistance is much appreciated as I have exhausted ALL feasible options with this institution and just want my money so I can warn EVERYONE and ANYONE to NEVER use M & T Bank. ( To clarify, this is not the first time we have had issues with this apparently corrupt institution withholding our funds from our household. In XXXX, there was an issue with using the {$2000.00} check that had been deposited into my fiance 's account and consequently costed us a {$100.00} late fee on our rent for their refusal to disburse our funds then. )

Issue: Struggling to pay mortgage
Subissue:
Consumer Complaint: In XX/XX/2022 I caught COVID which caused me to fall behind on my mortgage payments. I contacted M & T and initially they gave me a forbearance and told me about the PA Homeowners Assistance Fund and recommended that I apply for them. I applied for PAHAF program and received an award letter granting me funds to get caught up on my mortgage on XX/XX/2022. During the time M & T pressured me into completing a loan modification application for a partial claim. I sent back the documents at the beginning of XX/XX/2022 and made M & T aware that I had been awarded a XXXX through the PAHAF and that PAHAF would be contacting them in order to pay them. From XXXX XXXX XX/XX/2022 I got the run around from M & T Bank stating that PAHAF never sent over the payment and PAHAF was responsible for holding up the payment. On XX/XX/2022, I spoke with an M & T specialist who discovered that M & T made a huge servicing mistake on my account. The M & T rep stating that M & T sent over the wrong documents in XXXX to PAHAF causing the delay of payment. The rep also discovered that I had been provided with false and misleading information from previous reps as no one told me I had to rescind the partial claim that i was approved for in order to receive the grant. Also no one told me that I had to pick between the award money from PAHAF or go through with the partial claim but I couldn't do both. Additionally the rep discovered that I was misled by previous M & T reps who stated that I didn't have to send in a payment at that time because PAHAF was going to cover the payments. The rep on XX/XX/2022 immediately escalated the case to her manager. However at this point I am at risk for foreclosure due to false and misleading information that M & T provided to me as well as sending the wrong information to PAHAF program back in XXXX.
