Consumer Complaint: My wife and I were incarcerated between XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX. During that time someone broke into our locked filing cabinet and took all of our personal information, including social security cards, banking information, debit cards, vehicle titles, etc. They then proceeded to drain our checking account of roughly {$37000.00} within 20 days. A family friend of ours even called M & T Bank XX/XX/XXXX around XXXX p.m. in attempt to stop the fraud from continuing, but M & T Bank told him they couldn't do anything. M & T Bank 's fraud department says they do not consider it fraud because our PIN numbers had to be used on numerous transactions. I informed M & T Bank 's fraud department our locked filing cabinet was broken into and our PIN numbers must've been written down on the banking papers. They told us to submit a Victim 's Report from the state police involved in the case. We submitted the Victim 's Report and M & T Bank re-opened the case for only one day and then re-closed it. I also informed M & T Bank multiple credit cards have been opened in our names also and I've had to put our credit on freeze because of all the information that has been taken from us. After we submitted our fraud claim and went into M & T Bank to explain what happened and close out our savings account and recover whatever funds were left over, M & T Bank said they didn't want to bank with us any longer. They were basically warned and informed fraud was occurring to a faithful client that's been banking with them for years with no problems, did nothing about it, and then waited for the fraud victims to come into their bank just to tell them they aren't welcomed there anymore and they can't do anything about getting back the money that was taken fraudulently.

Consumer Complaint: M & T BankXXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX, NY XXXX ( XXXX ) re : account # XXXX XXXX ) I believe my escrow payment to be too high. My property taxes were greatly reduced to {$3900.00} and while I was given a refund check for the difference in the amount of {$1600.00}, I was expecting the refund check to be much larger given how much my property taxes were reduced. 2 ) The refund check too 4 months after I gave them the new property tax assessment, far too long for this mortgage company to hold on to my money. Companies hold onto money for as long as they can. I also had to call in and request the money 3 or 4 times before a check was actually received. 3 ) My home payment was reduced from {$1700.00} to {$1600.00}. Today I received a very nasty phone call telling me that my payment of {$1600.00} was in suspense and that I owed an additional {$150.00} ( {$94.00} difference and late charge of {$56.00} ). They FORCED me to pay the difference of {$94.00}, but waived the late charge. I would like for someone to review my escrow account and see if this mortgage company is holding onto too much money. They also need to be investigated to see if they are taking too long for refund payments. XXXX XXXX XXXX called me today in a very mean and demeaning manner saying that I was delinquent on the payment, etc. etc. I'm sure he was trained to do that, but XXXX XXXX XXXX should have also been trained to see that I've always sent my payments on time and he should have also looked to see if there was a recent payment change. I believe that 1 ) I should be due additional escrow refund and 2 ) that my payment should be lower than what it is at {$1600.00}. Please let me know if there is any additional information that you require in order to investigate. XXXX XXXX XXXX

Consumer Complaint: My name is XXXX XXXX I have a mortgage with M & T Bank. I recently had problems with the property tax where the house was built on 3, 25ft lots and the 3rd lot wasn't properly merged by the city with lots 1 & 2. Lot 3 was sold for tax proceeds without my knowledge. M & T provided a lawyer since they also had interest in maintaining the property, to assist with resolving the problem. The tax bill was XXXX ( including interest and additional fees ). I recently found out I am being charged XXXX for and attorney 's fee and my mortgage has changed from {$400.00} monthly to {$1700.00}. M & T is also charging me {>= $1,000,000} in addition to the above amounts as a recoverable corporate advance. I have talked to them asking them to provide a fair bill but this is excessive and well beyond the amount of the taxes or attorneys fees. Please help me. I am a XXXX XXXX XXXX widow on a fixed income and I think they are trying to take my home with excessive fees beyond my income. I have not missed a mortgage payment, I have always paid my taxes until I became exempt I can not loose my home.

Consumer Complaint: We have a joint checking account with the M & T Bank ( the routing and account number are XXXX and XXXX, respectively ). The bank blocked us to get access and/or transfer money last XXXX without any reasons or notifications. Now, we could not pay our bills on-time through this account, which may significantly affect our credit scores and mortgage ( or credit cards ) applications. We called M & T Bank to resolve this issue on XX/XX/XXXX. We also asked the managers in security department and the local XXXX officers why our account was blocked. However, none of them was willing to tell us why. They kept asking us to call another number ( such as XXXX, XXXX, XXXX, etc. ). After many hours of calling different officers, M & T Bank still have not provided us a reason why our account was blocked nor resolved the issue. In addition, we have requested XXXX XXXX XXXX to represent us to contact the bank. He has also failed to resolve this issue. We will be grateful if you can help us to resolve this issue.

M & T Bank responded to say they are reviewing and the CFPB case was closed. That was on XX/XX/2023 and I still do not have access to my money with no further communication on a timeline or whether more information is needed from me. Approximately 90 days has elapsed since I have been able to assess my money.
