Consumer Complaint: On the evening of XX/XX/2023, at XXXXXXXX XXXX, I was notified via email that a bank account had been opened in my name at M & T Bank. I did not initiate the opening of this account. The email was sent from XXXX. In response, even thought it appears to be a genuine account, I forwarded the email to M & T 's designated email address for reporting phishing attempts and took no further action. My suspicion is that the bank may have done this as part of a public relations campaign in hopes that many people would overlook it and keep the accounts open.

Consumer Complaint: On XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX I spoke to M & T Bank regarding my lapse in insurance coverage that I was not aware of. After an explanation from the Specialist they explained I had not had insurance since XXXXXXXX after insurance was not paid by the mortgage company. The specialist advised me to get insurance ASAP. On XX/XX/XXXX XXXX M & t bank sent me a letter stating that it was my second notice stating that insurance had expired and I needed to provide my insurance or they would purchase an insurance for me. On XX/XX/XXXXXXXX XXXX I received the final notice that stated they had purchased an insurance for me XX/XX/XXXXXXXX for {$1700.00} and that I could cancel that insurance after I purchased my own insurance. On XX/XX/XXXX I purchased my insurance from XXXX and sent them the paperwork thinking I would be getting a refund of {$1700.00} that was charged to my escrow account. On XX/XX/XXXX I called M & T Bank asking about the correction that needed to be made and they stated that the {$1700.00} that was charged was not from XX/XX/XXXXXXXX going forward but was charged from XX/XX/XXXX2XXXX until XXXXXXXX. I explained that I was not notified that I did not have insurance until the XX/XX/XXXXXXXX phone call I had and should not be charged for a previous time frame since I had just been notified by phone call in XX/XX/XXXXXXXX XXXX and I had only received letter in XXXX and XX/XX/XXXXXXXX about insurance lapse. I explained I would have no ability to buy another insurance policy that could be backdated from XX/XX/XXXXXXXX to XX/XX/XXXXXXXX since I was not notified by bank until XXXXXXXX XXXX Specialist agreed that I would be unable to purchase my own backdated insurance but the they are able to do that and I would have no choice. I explained I was never given any notice to be able to purchase insurance in XXXX as neither was aware of the lapse in coverage. they explained that it was not their fault and by law they had the ability to charge me anything they could as I could not get any other insurance. I then cited 1024.37 Force-placed insurance were is states that Before a servicer assesses on a borrower any premium charge or fee related to force-placed insurance, the servicer must : ( i ) Deliver to a borrower or place in the mail a written notice containing the information required by paragraph ( c ) ( 2 ) of this section at least 45 days before a servicer assesses on a borrower such charge or fee ; I explained I did not receive the final notice until XXXXXXXX and at that point I could not purchase any back dated insurance but they refused to help me stating that they can legally purchase any insurance they need. This is theft. the mortgage company has stolen {$1700.00} from me.M & T Bank purchased an insurance policy on XXXX for XXXX to XXXX with out written notification allowing me any options. that should be illegal.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/23 i recorded a promotional balance transfer from XXXX XXXX ( another credit company that I have a credit card account with them ). I performed this balance transfer of {$130000.00}. XXXX XXXX XXXX a check to my M & T Credit Card and charged me a balance transfer fee. At that time of the balance transfer my balance on the M & T credit card was only about {$1100.00}. Once the balance transfer went through and settled my M & T credit card had a negative balance because of the overpayment. I contacted M & T lending office and asked them to transfer my over payment of about {$11000.00} to my M & T checking account. They stated we can not do that and we will send the original payment from XXXX back to them. Although this is not correct and the overpayment is my money I agreed to that. But its been 18 days and they still holding my money. I have contacted them numerous times to resolve this issue but every time they just apologize and stating we will send an email to the back office. Please help me to get my money

Consumer Complaint: In XXXX, I contracted XXXX XXXX and missed the last few weeks of school. I did not know that I was out of personal time and I had already received my final paycheck of the school year. My first paycheck was to be deposited by XX/XX/XXXX and my mortgage is due on the XXXX of the month, with a grace period of the XXXX. My HR department never told me that my paycheck would be docked. As soon as I realized I was to be {$1700.00} short for XXXX, I contacted M & T Bank re : my mortgage and explained there was no way I could pay it within 30 days, and I wanted to avoid a 30 day mark on my credit. I offered to make a partial payment of {$1200.00} if they could extend the other amount out a few weeks. They advised they could not take partial payments and that I would need my account to go 30 days late before I called them back and applied for assistance. As of XX/XX/XXXX, my account was 30 days late and I called on XX/XX/XXXX. I was told that I could apply for a partial claim ( and that the late payment would be restructured into the loan. ) I was told this could take up to 30 days. I asked about the late payment. I specifically asked if the request was still in underwriting, would I be reported AGAIN the following month for being late. I was told no, my account was " protected. '' This was not the case. Underwriting took the full 30 days, and then some, and they reported me late to the credit bureaus for 60 days. After that happened, I called back and was told that I had been given wrong information and that in fact, even though I was approved for the program, until the loan " closes '' ( after a notary comes ) I would continue to be reported for late mortgage payments. There was a TWO-WEEK Delay for the mobile notary, who finally came out on XXXX XXXX. I was devastated to find that my credit was totally destroyed because of this. I would have simply made the late payment and NEVER applied for this partial claim. NEVER. Because I know have FOUR late payments on my credit report, I can not finance anything for YEARS. On XXXX XXXX, I was struck by a deer. My XXXX XXXX ( 2.99 % interest, purchased pre-Covid, ) was totaled. I could not get ANY financing at a dealership because their underwriting teams were requesting proof of " current mortgage '' AND WOULD NOT CONSIDER A RESTRUCTURED LOAN. I was denied. I had to go to a used sales lot, pay a higher price on a vehicle, 24 % interest and I have no way to refinance for years unless these late payments come off my report. I feel that in GOOD FAITH, these late payments should be REMOVED. M & T has destroyed my financial life, the security of my family, and caused me to have to take a 2nd job as I'm now paying MORE for a XXXX XXXX than I had paid for my XXXX XXXX XXXX, which was 50 % paid for, and I had to put XXXX down and take out a 5 YEAR LOAN. They did not act in Good Faith. I asked these questions about my credit and I was misinformed, and information was withheld from me multiple times. I can dispute these on my credit report, but I know that often a co. will not remove them. I feel that MT Bank acted dishonestly and the LEAST they can do is remove those late marks for XXXX, XXXX, XXXX, XXXX.

Consumer Complaint: To : Consumer Finance Officer Full Bank Name : M & T Bank Location : XXXX, New York Type of banking product : Credit Card Description of problem : Unauthorized promo interest rate ( on purchases ) without my written consent ( XX/XX/XXXXXXXX XXXX ) { applied on account after 2 years opening XX/XX/XXXX } Mischarged Dollar Amount : XX/XX/XXXXXXXX XXXX {$2200.00} ( {$35.00} on average monthly unauthorized promo interest for several years ) XX/XX/XXXX amount is now {$2400.00} Detailed Explanation : I am a victim of an unfair and fraudulent practice ( illegal promo rate ) committed by M & T Bank. This action is prohibited by the FDICs Law and Regulations for non discriminatory lending. I opened my Credit Card XX/XX/XXXXXXXX XXXX a basic credit card with balance transfer promo which was not used/activated as it reflects on my statements. It is illegal to place a promo rate on an account without calling, or me signing an agreement. All promotional rates and offers will start in the first 6 months of account opening ( the other promo offers after account opening usually take place a few months later by mail and or email. It must take the consumers written or verbal consent at a branch or etc to begin. I know this from experience working for 2 separate banks as credit card/ Mortgage servicing rep. I want to know the explanation as to why my account has randomly active a promo interest rate in XX/XX/XXXX 2 years after my account opening, which is two years after account opening. M & T Bank algorithmically applied a promotion on purchases interest rate of 0 % 2 years after account opening without my knowledge or consent in XX/XX/XXXX ( conveniently right after the biggest purchase I have made 2 years after opening the account ). Ive called customer service several times about it and theyve rudely lied to me, claiming I may have agreed to the promo interest ( without proof of evidence ) as a way of negating and not fixing the error. My credit card agreement paperwork does not include a purchase promo, only balance transfer promo which was never used/activated. In XX/XX/XXXX I called and the customer service rep XXXX could not explain why my dilemma was occurring she blamed me and said I did it. I asked for proof of me signing off my credit card features detailing sure capabilities. She could not so I asked for her to escalate my call up to a manager XXXX. I was told to mail a letter to XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX, DE XXXX '' ( which is on the bottom of the credit card 's statements ). The manager XXXX that the call to was dismissive, didn't attempt to help me at all. Instantly told me to mail my concerns and disconnected the phone line. I mailed my concerns 3 times and heard nothing from M & T, even til this day. Contact Log at M & T customer service : : From the false promo date XX/XX/XXXX to XXXX XXXX I have added several end of year illegal promo interests of about {$360.00} accrued which totaled XXXX. XX/XX/XXXX and ( I have not received any follow up after my call earlier today ) from M & T the total amount owed from the illegal interest charge is. Spoke to XXXX who transferred me to XXXX at M & T XX/XX/XXXX created an urgent request and is said to call me back.never did.but that call needs to be reviewed. It is now XXXX ( XXXX is the current total in fraud promo charge ) and I have not received any confirmation of the investigation that should have already taken place on my account. Still without a resolution, The FDIC Forwarded my case to Consumer Finance. In XX/XX/XXXX, in the next month of XXXX, the promo purchase interest rate has vanished but the money owed to me from the mis charges has not been sent as a check nor reallocated to the balance. The amount now owed is {$2400.00}. Consumer Complaint: the problem is with M & T bank since XX/XX/ 2022, and they never tried to help me, iI am so tired of this, went in person several times to 5 different branches traying to get help but, the bank was a mess that until this date nobody helped me to get my money back I am so upset, frustrated, very sad. in XX/XX/2022 I called my credit card and asked for an ACH deposit transfer to my checking account the amount was {$4800.00} but XXXX XXXX XXXX send the money to a wrong account number, I provided the wrong account number to M & T clerks and managers and they told me that XXXX XXXX XXXX need to do an ach reversal wich XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX did like 5 times but M & t bank keeps rejecting them. and told them that they will fix the problem with me not with third parties, now my credit is damaged because M & T kept my money, money that XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX wants me to pay and it is not fare because I never got that money. I provided to M & T bank transaction number and date the wrong account number were money was deposited all they had to do is move the money to the right account number they never did that, I spent hours and hours on the phone and lost hours of work time its very sad they didnt care. months have been passing and nobody cared. M & T ACH department tried to help and everytime send me to XXXX XXXX wich is a manager from XXXX branch, they told me that she will be able to transfer those funds to my account and she never did, all she said was that was that was XXXX error.

Consumer Complaint: As mentioned in my previous complaint, M & T Bank makes it criminally difficult to pay specifically the principle amount for variable rate XXXX Despite physically going to the bank as directed ( specifically within the XXXX day window following the interest payment due date -- which is heinously short ) after satisfying the interest payment, my {$8000.00} deposit was instead applied to my fixed-rate mortgage ( despite ensuring the account number on the deposit slip was correct and verbally confirming multiple times with the teller ). My {$8000.00} payment needs to be put towards the variable-rate XXXX loan I have with M & T and NOT to the fixed-rate mortgage I have. This issue needs to be corrected immediately. It is clear that M & T Bank is either criminally negligent or is nefariously trying to take advantage of customers by making the payment process impossible.
