Issue: Managing an account
Subissue: Cashing a check
Consumer Complaint: I received a check I was waiting for and my family needed the funds for family emergencies. I never had an issue cashing a check with chase bank. So I cashed it. The put a XXXX day hold at first. When the funds were supposed to be made available told to me by customer service it was extended another 7 days. The results is I had my vehicle repossessed, and loss more money because I could make it to work. The representative told me the are holding the money because the issuer of check may have had a bounced check in the past. However chase took the money from the issuers account so he was not able to put a stop payment so I could use another company service. I called them many time and I was hung up on and treated as my life didnt matter resulting in extreme damages to my family.

Consumer Complaint: Chase bank has three of my checking accounts in overdraft. I had submitted a dispute to charges from several months ago during the year of 2022, and the bank has " closed '' my complaint and said that they had determined that the charges were authorized. I have complained several times through the messaging portal and by written letter sent by XXXX. The bank has literally provided me a copy of a receipt that does not have my name on it at all, and they said the charge was authorized. I recently submitted another request by mobile app asking how can I submit my own documentation to the bank, and the response I received provided me with a random complaint number and said the complaint is officially closed. Nothing was answered and this is still unresolved.

Issue: Closing an account
Subissue: Funds not received from closed account
Consumer Complaint: At the end of XXXX in XXXX Chase closed our account due to suspicious activity. We received the money already in our accounts, however we have not received two checks for {$2200.00} and {$620.00}. In XXXX of XXXX we went to a branch and were told these checks were sent back to the Department of Treasury. My husband worked with his commander to have these checks reissued, but they were told they had already been cashed. I spoke with Chases fraud department today, XX/XX/XXXX, and was told the did not send back the funds but that they were unable, and are still, to verify the checks in question were issued. We were told there was nothing either party could provide to prove we had not received the funds or that the checks were valid. Their resolution is to allow the funds to hang in suspension for up to two years and let them go to unclaimed funds. Which we would likely have to pay more taxes on after we already had them taken out of the checks initially. We do not feel this is an acceptable resolution.

Consumer Complaint: My stepdad and a friend wrote me a check for my post-elopement celebration on XX/XX/XXXX, while most others XXXX 'd or used other methods. My stepdad wrote me a check for {$2600.00} while my friend wrote me one for {$200.00}. I deposited both checks electronically and discarded both. Chase froze my account while they verified the checks. After 14 days, Chase notified me that they would be closing my checking account because they couldn't verify the checks. I didn't feel comfortable providing them the phone number of my stepdad or my friend as Chase informed me I had to. After the accounts were closed, I thought I would have the checks returned to the senders. I waited from news from my stepdad and friend about receiving the funds back, but nothing. Finally, Chase said they would hold my checks indefinitely until they verified. My friend called her bank to cancel the check and said she could just XXXX me the money, but her bank said that the check cleared and had already been deposited so it could not be returned. I finally gave them both the number of my friend and my stepdad. They " verified '' my friend 's after calling Chase about 3 times for this. They notified me they couldn't give me the {$200.00} check because it was now " linked '' to the {$2600.00} check. I gave them my stepdad 's number, and that couldn't be verified. Chase somehow got my mom 's number, even though they're not in the same phone plan. They said they would call my mom 's number to verify. My stepdad was out of town so my mom answered, and told them to call this week. I called Chase yesterday, XX/XX/XXXX, to verify they would call my mom 's number today, XX/XX/XXXX. Today, XXXX said they couldn't " verify '' neither my stepdad 's nor my mom 's number as it belonging to him. My stepdad lives in XXXX and I live in XXXX, so we can't go to the bank in person to verify, according to XXXX. I have a call history that I have been on the phone with XXXX every week at least twice a week since end of XX/XX/XXXX trying to solve this issue. I still don't have the total of {$2800.00}.
