Issue: Trouble using your card
Subissue: Credit card company won't increase or decrease your credit limit
Consumer Complaint: I paid off my Chase Sapphire credit card, which had held a balance for a period time after a period of financial hardship. My income had increased by $ XXXX, so that was updated as well. 11 days after paying it off, Chase Bank lowered my credit limit by 90 % XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX ), completely negating the effect of paying off the card on my credit score. This seems designed to keep me in a debt trap, as it prevents me from obtaining consolidation loans. It is effectively punishing me for eliminating the interest-carrying balance on the card. Chase has refused to reinstate the old balance, and claimed to be unable to escalate me beyond a second tier of account specialist. The factors they listed in the letter they sent were mitigated by my payoff, but it was as if the payoff was in fact the impetus for them to lower the limit. A slightly lowered limit would be understandable, but a 90 % reduction is capricious and punitive. It turns me off entirely from ever doing business with Chase again, as they seem to want to punish consumers for using their credit line or having periods of increased financial burden.

Consumer Complaint: XXXX, went to Chase bank in XXXX, XXXX, TX to cash my payroll check. Was told no, limit is {$2500.00}. XXXX XXXX, a mgr., came over and kept saying no no No without hearing the teller or me, and was very rude. I offered to open an account, XXXX XXXX cut me off and overruled the teller saying XXXX hold my check for up to 30 days if I do. I inquired why was he doing this, he replied its our policy and repeated it 4 times like he was a child having a tantrum. He never provided a copy of any policy to substantiate his claim, and never offered to. I reminded him my employer banks with them, he said so, you dont. His behavior was inappropriate, and unprofessional. He was personally belligerent and lacked even basic courtesy.

Consumer Complaint: Hello. On XX/XX/XX/XX/XXXX I lost my debit card near my apartment in XXXX XXXX, Connecticut. Two days prior to this on XX/XX/. I deposited money into my bank account to pay my car payment and my rent for the month of XXXX, which is due on or before the XXXX of the month, unfortunately afterwards I paid my rent via XXXX but unknowingly lost my debit card after. On XX/XX/XXXX, as I opened my account to pay my car payment, i noticed {$110.00} missing from my account which I hadnt used since i submitted the money for my rent. I realized my card had been stolen and used by someone so I contacted Chase Bank right away to report fraudulent transactions and to cancel out my card. They informed me that outside of the 4 transactions that the thief processed with my card, 3 more separate charges were declined by another merchant. They issued me a temporary credit to my account pending their investigation so that I would still be able to pay my car payment on time but after almost 3 weeks of them investigating, on XX/XX/2XX/XX/XXXXthey deemed my claim insufficient and denied my claim which subsequently cause them to reverse the credits they put into my account simply because they claim that one of the places this thief used my card at was close to where I live which is in a heavy traffic area as I live downtown XXXX XXXX, CT. I told them it wouldnt be uncommon for someone to have found my card and tried to use it nearby to see if it was working before they travelled farther out to where those other 3 transactions were declined. My card was used at places I have never been to in the 2-3 years I have been banking with Chase and yet they refused to refund my money and left my account almost- {$70.00}. If there is any way that to help me during this situation I would greatly appreciate it.

In XXXX, I tried to open a business checking account and was denied, I received no reason. Consumer Complaint: I received a cash check of XXXX on XX/XX/2023, from a car dealership. At the time, I had to leave the States, so I asked a very close friend of mine that is in the States to help me cash the check. We have called a Chase branch in XXXX multiple times to confirm that it is ok for him to deposit the check into his account for me as long as I write a line that says " payable to xxx ( his name ) -- xxx ( My name ). '' After he deposited the check, Chase bank suddenly told him that they had to lock his account because they had to call me to verify that I had approved him to cash the check for me, but there was another problem. The bank says, from their internal system, they can not associate my phone number with me, so they can not call me for verification. Now his chase bank account has been frozen, and the money has been locked. The bank says we have to verify the money within 10 business days, or they will have to close the account and suspend the money. The problem is, there is nothing I can do to make their " internal system '' verify that my phone number is linked to me, the phone number that I used when I open a chase bank account. On top of that I am currently overseas right now so I can't even receive any phone calls from the States. If there is a problem like this, the bank should tell us at the very first beginning. Instead, now they are making the problem trapped in a loop like this. We had confirmed multiple times before we made this deposit, but they are now making it like it is our responsibility.
