Issue: Written notification about debt
Subissue: Didn't receive notice of right to dispute
Consumer Complaint: I am writing to formally dispute the reporting of the charge-off status for the above-mentioned account on my credit report. I believe that the charge-off status as reported is inaccurate and not in compliance with applicable consumer protection laws. According to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act ( FDCPA ) and the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( FCRA ), it is required that accurate and up-to-date information is reported on consumers ' credit reports. I understand the importance of maintaining accurate information, and I wish to ensure that my credit report reflects a true and accurate representation of my financial history. Furthermore, I would like to bring to your attention the Internal Revenue Service 's guidelines regarding charge-offs of debt. The IRS defines a charge-off as the creditor 's determination that the debt is uncollectible and is treating the debt as a loss or expense. This determination does not relieve me of my obligation to address the debt, but it does impact how the debt should be reported

Subissue: Notification didn't disclose it was an attempt to collect a debt
Consumer Complaint: I was contacted Via phone by this company and they tried to extract personal information from me but didnt disclose they were doing so to collect a debt. When I asked if they were a debt collector they said were IC Systems and when I kept asking they kept repeating the same answer. Debt collectors are supposed to tell you they are calling in attempt to collect a debt. They wanted all my personal information and didnt disclose they were trying to collect a debt. They need to disclose theyre a debt collector before they talk to you.

Subissue: Debt was paid
Consumer Complaint: I have been dealing with IC Systems for at least 10 years if not longer. I had XXXX XXXX and I have been paying on that and other medical bills since 2012 or so. I pay them {$75.00} a month as I have been for roughly 10 years. That equates to at least {$9000.00}. I don't know what I owed originally and what has been added to it. But from what I understand, once a debt is sold to a third party company they are collecting a debt they purchased. I feel as some point this payment needs to stop. I do not have the means to pay {$75.00} in perpetuity. Shouldn't this debt be satisfied yet?

Consumer Complaint: This debt arises from a XXXX account that was canceled in NJ before my move to FL. I canceled the account in XXXX XXXX. The debt arises from utility usage from XXXX XXXX to XXXX XXXX. While the account was active and I was living in NJ the account was paid through XXXX bill pay site. After XXXX XXXX no additional bill was presented for payment on the bank site. No e-mail, paper bill or phone call was received. The first contact about this delinquency was made in XXXX when a different collector contacted me by phone. I responded with information that I moved to FLA and canceled the NJ account in XXXX XXXX. I never heard from that agency again, who indicated they would further investigate the situation. On XX/XX/XXXX I was texted by XXXX that I had an account in collections. I went to the XXXX site and pulled up the information. I contacted the agency, IC System , IncXXXX, who did not attempt to call me on the phone ( I still have the same phone number ), mail, or e-mail. I explained that this is a recurring error, they told me the debt would remain on my credit report until I paid the debt. I paid the debt that does not belong to me to avoid further damage to my credit. This company unethical collection tactics by reporting the erroneous debt to credit agencies without speaking with me or investigating the debt. They not only threatened to report the erroneous debit, they actually reported it without contacting me. I am now spending numerous hours to fill out disputes and enter statements with my creditors. I am getting e-mails and phone calls from debt repair agencies and my credit score dropped over XXXX points! The agency indicated it would take XXXX to XXXX days to remove the collection from my credit report after I satisfied the debt. If no payment, the collection would remain. They were unwilling to further investigate the original error made by XXXX. The account was canceled so long ago l ( almost XXXX years ) that I no longer have any of the account information or anything I did with the original agency to dispute that the account was active after XXXX XXXX.
