Consumer Complaint: Discover card took money from me and is holding my money unlawfully. I have a secured credit card with them with a credit line of {$400.00}. On XX/XX/XXXX, I called and requested a credit limit increase to {$1000.00}. The person on the line let me know I needed to put up the additional {$600.00} since it is secured. On XX/XX/XXXX, the {$600.00} was taken from my bank account. On XX/XX/XXXX, I received an email from Discover saying they had increased my credit limit to {$600.00}. I immediately called and explained I requested the credit limit to be {$1000.00}, not {$600.00} and explained the additional {$600.00} has cleared my bank account. They tell me they only see a request for a {$200.00} increase. I let them know this needs to be fixed or refund me the {$400.00}. I spent over an hour on the phone. I spoke with one Tier 1 agent and 3 supervisors. The 1st supervisor called the bank on the line with me and the bank told them the {$600.00} had cleared. This supervisor tells me since a different department handles the credit limit increases then she has to forward my issue to them to research and that can take 48 hrs. I asked her what is there to research when we just called the bank and verified {$600.00} was indeed taken and not {$200.00}. She said that's the way that department handles it. They have to do their own verification. I asked to speak with that supervisor. So I was connected to supervisor # 2. She tells me there is nothing they can do except call me back in 48 hrs. I told her this is unacceptable since the 1st supervisor already verified with the bank. I also let them know there should be a recorded call from XX/XX/26 because the girl on that day read a script and asked did I agree to the {$600.00}. She was inflexible and kept repeating that she can do nothing further as she has to research it. I asked for a supervisor above her. She connected me to supervisor # 3 who said he is the highest in the executive office. I let him know my attorney will be contacting them. He said the issue still needs to be researched. I asked him to explain what they are researching. He said they need to know what happened and why it happened. I let him know " what happened and why '' is irrelevant to me. Discover already has my {$600.00} and is refusing to increase my limit. He provided me an email address to send written authorization to speak with my attorney about my account. This issue remains unresolved.

Issue: Closing your account

Subissue: Company closed your account

Consumer Complaint: I applied for credit with discover card XX/XX/2020 and was approved for {$750.00} credit limit. I received my card and start utilizing it. On XXXX XXXX I noticed a drastic change in my credit score because of issue with my credit card. So I called discover card services and was advised that they needed to verify additional information which was very vague and not specific in detail. Discover card advised me that I would receive email for verification and I received XXXX docsign IRS 4506-t. At that point I was advised that a hold would be placed on my account. I made a payment on XXXX XXXX for the amount of {$640.00} as my payment is due on XXXX XXXX. I currently receive XXXX income and due to this reason I was discriminated against because of my XXXX income and discover card used my XXXX income against in extending credit to me. As a result my account was closed. My credit score dropped tremendously. When I can call or chat to get more information limited information was disclosed.

Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement

Subissue: Card was charged for something you did not purchase with the card

Consumer Complaint: Hello ConsumerFinanceProtectionBureau, and Discover Financial Services I'm writing in dispute to my account. It appears my card has been skimmed somewhere, some how and for some reason. I'm requesting any payments made to XXXX, XXXX XXXX, XXXX, XXXX, XXXX XXXX or however it appears on your end, XXXX XXXX, immediately be reversed and returned to me as soon as possible. It turns out someone also made fake payments to my account just to keep flipping the balance back and forth. At this time I will not be accepting any calls, everything must be done through the CFPB Portal, or by email. I've attached a statement to verify myself.

Issue: Managing an account

Subissue: Problem making or receiving payments

Consumer Complaint: I have been a customer of Discover Bank for five years. They have a bill pay service common to most banks. Some bills need to be mailed up to five days in advance of their due date. Recently, they made a change where you can not send out a bill payment unless those exact funds or more are in your account. This will make it so my bills will arrive late. For example, lets say I have a bill that is due on Tuesday. In this example, lets say my direct deposit arrives the Friday before. In the past, I could send my bill out on Tuesday or Wednesday the week before the bill is due, knowing that my direct deposit on Friday would arrive. The bank is nannying me to the point where I cant conduct business regularly. I tried calling them to see if they would change this, but the phone attendants are no help. They did not make this policy they can only apologize and explain it.

Issue: Trouble using your card

Subissue: Can't use card to make purchases

Consumer Complaint: Agreed to complete 12 month payment program to get my account back into good standing without closing the account. Informed by numerous representatives that once I completed the program, my monthly payment would be reduced and my account would no longer be suspended and I would be able to use the card again. Informed by manager XXXX XXXX Id # XXXX on XX/XX/2020 that even though I completed the program, my account could be suspended indefinitely. Discover NEVER mentioned this information to me when I first enrolled in the program nor when I called in and asked about my account being reviewed and unsuspended in XX/XX/2020.

Issue: Struggling to pay your bill

Subissue: Credit card company won't work with you while you're going through financial hardship

Consumer Complaint: I was on a special repayment program and I completed the terms. I then became unemployed due to no fault of my own and was receiving minimal unemployment payments. I tried to make ends meet, but my mortgage became behind and I had to stop paying on the credit card because my family needed housing and food more. I tried to talk to Discover and they were unwilling to help me. I could not get in touch with them often as I eventually went back to work and my work hours were the only times they were open. I tried writing to them and no response. They have since sent my account to a collection agency who will not return my calls or respond to my messages. I attempted to contact Discover because they have filed legal action against me without providing me with any details. Discover refuses to discuss any details about my account even though they have filed a court case against me. I have called them trying to work out a repayment plan with them for settlement but they refuse to speak to me. I have sent them payments when I had funds available to do so and they failed to report those payments made.

Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement

Subissue: Card was charged for something you did not purchase with the card

Consumer Complaint: I contacted Disputed all charges that were posted to my account after XX/XX/XXXX. The last time I used the card was in XX/XX/XXXX. Therefore any charges that were posted to my account in XXXX are fraudulent. ALL charges that posted from XX/XX/XXXX to XX/XX/XXXX were fraudulent. I had not used the card since XX/XX/XXXX. My house was vandalized/burglarized on XX/XX/XXXX and I was incarcerated on XX/XX/XXXX and not released until XX/XX/XXXX. Therefore. I could not made of the purchases that were posted to my credit card during those dates. Since arrest records are public it is very easy to confirm the fact that I was incarcerated. It is obvious that my financial and personal information was comprised before and/or after my home was burglarized.
