Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Problem with customer service

Consumer Complaint: In XX/XX/2018 I cosigned a private student loan for my daughter with Discover Student Loans. We were told it would not be problem to consolidate and refinance the loans in order to have me removed as a cosigner and my daughter have a better interest rate once she graduates. This has been anything but easy. Discover will not allow my daughter to consolidate her loans ( 2 ) and remove me as co-signer, stating she does not qualify. They are unable to provide any credit criteria literally stating " its different for everyone ''. I have spoken to their consolidation department and manager - XXXX. They are unable to provide and unwilling to try and locate this information within Discover. They simply say " we put the application information into the computer and the " computer tells us '' whether it is approved. This is unfair and abusive credit practices. Consumers should have the right to know the credit score, DTI and any additional credit criteria required in order to be approved to consolidate the student loans. More importantly ; consumers should be told this information prior to accepting and obtaining the loan with Discover. My daughter 's interest rate is over 9 % which is awful for a recent graduate to have to pay when they are just starting out.The initial sales tactics are flawed and misleading ; only to now deal with their back operation pitfalls and a denial with no further information. Consumers should be provided with the criteria needed to qualify. Please stop these companies from taking advantage of college graduates who are trying to get an education and provide themselves with a better life and career.

Issue: Closing your account

Subissue: Company closed your account

Consumer Complaint: I opened a Discover account. I received my card and before I could activate it the account was closed I was told I would need to provide my tax returns via a document signed with XXXX this document had no start date or end date the IRS said with this document any body could access my tax records for infinity at any given time. I attempted to contact Discover and was given the reason this was a business decision to get rid of the low life customers. This has impacted my credit score and reputation among by associates and bank and other lenders.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan

Subissue: Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan

Consumer Complaint: I have been struggling for 7 years to pay off my student loans with Discover Student Loans. Currently, I am at {$2000.00} a MONTH. I got out of a repayment option that bumped up my monthly payment. I have tried to consolidate with Discover and they have told me that I have exceeded the amount they can consolidate. Yes, the loan company that willingly gave me this at ages 18-22 ( this is predatory lending!!! ) will not consolidate their own loans. I have asked to go to court to renegotiate but they said I would need to get an attorney. All the attorneys I have spoken to have told me that I would need to default on my loans to go to court. I am not going to further ruin my already bad credit for a CHANCE to renegotiate my monthly payments. Discover will not work with me to lower my regular monthly payments. I do not want to default in order to sue. I want my monthly payments lowered or my pay off date extended. I am unable to survive like this. I don't know what other legal means I can turn to pay this. I feel like I'm being forced to do crime to pay this off.

Issue: Closing your account

Subissue: Company closed your account

Consumer Complaint: I have had a Discover card for over two years and also opened another Discover card. I pay the accounts on time and in most cases in the balances in full each month. Discover attempted to get me to sign a document with XXXX to obtain my tax records. I didnt feel comfortable allowing this.XXXX has caused damages to others in the past with breaching consumers. I reached out to an attorney within Discover around theXX/XX/XXXX who advised me not to sign any document and he said this didnt sound like anything Discover would do and he would have another attorney at Discover contact me back that still has not happen. I reported this to to the office of the president they have not had any further contact as promised that was on XX/XX/2020. I received a letter sent to my email stating my account was closed because of a business decision and it will be reported as closed by grantor and it will impact my credit score .My credit score has dropped severely because of this action from Discover. No payments are posting to my accounts. The card is being reported to merchants and businesses that I have reoccurring payments as fraud. This is now affecting my credit and defaming my character with the businesses I deal with. Im not the only person this has happened to I have relatives and people on XXXX who had their accounts closed.

Issue: Problem when making payments

Subissue: You never received your bill or did not know a payment was due

Consumer Complaint: I do not receive paper bills. Discover Card tells me I missed a payment but I never received a paper bill. ON DO NOT BANK ONLINE. Yet Discover Card demands that I use its website to make payments. I do NOT know how to use its website. I WANT PAPER BILLS. I never agreed to nor authorized paperless bills! It is not fair for Discover Card to say I missed a payment when I never received a paper bill and do not know how to use the Discover website to see what I owe or do not owe!

Issue: Incorrect information on your report

Subissue: Account information incorrect

Consumer Complaint: I was making my payment to XXXX XXXX which is who was my original lender. I did not know my loan was sold to XXXX XXXX XXXX. I only had my loan for 3 months before it was sold to another loan and did not know where my money was going. I request that the late payments for XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX be changed to current, due to the fact that I made the payment on time but was not aware my loan was sold to another mortgage company. Now I have my account set up with the correct mortgage company I will have no issues with making on time payments to the correct lender. My credit score has been affected due to this misunderstanding.

Issue: Closing your account

Subissue: Company closed your account

Consumer Complaint: I have been a customer of Discover for over 20 years with two credit cards, including an outstanding credit history. Recently I discovered that one of my accounts was closed ( according to them due to inactivity ). My issue with this is I do not feel I as properly notified, I only found out when I received a termination of service letter from company that provided additional credit protection on this particular card. When I called Discover about this I was only told that one letter was mailed out to me in XX/XX/XXXX ( which I did not receive ) supposedly stating that if I made a purchase before mid XX/XX/XXXX the account would remain opened and the only thing I could do was to reapply for a new card as once an account is closed it can not be reopened. I have a serious issue with this as I stated I had two credit cards with Discover and not once was an alert/message visually placed on the Discovers online home page of my account-it stills shows this closed card having an available balance on the main page. Not only did they close my card causing my credit score to drop but I had to apply for another card which would also cause my credit score to drop. On XX/XX/XXXX I spoke to four different individuals and was transferred to departments that was not even working that day, only to be told a repeated scripted response that once an account is closed it can not be reopened. I think that with my years of loyal service as I was often told even as recent as XX/XX/XXXX, that my account remaining open would not solely depend on one letter ( that I did not receive ) being mailed to my home. My phone number, email address, are all on file as additional means of ways to communicate with me. This act in my opinion has caused me consumer harm and was/is very unfair.

Issue: Problem with a credit reporting company's investigation into an existing problem

Subissue: Their investigation did not fix an error on your report

Consumer Complaint: This complaint is in connection with the CFPB complaints filed against XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX on XX/XX/2020 Complaint numbers XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX for failure to provide proper documentation of a Wet Ink Signature contract with DISCOVER to validate the account reporting is accurate and confirmation there is a legal obligation to this company DISCOVER. I complaint was also filed against DISCOVER by the XXXX XXXX XXXX Complaint # XXXX for lack of professionalism, lack of full disclosure, and failure to provide Wet Ink Signature signed contracts to the Credit Bureaus or myself per section 609 of the Fair Credit Reporting Act. This particular complaint is because DISCOVER has not only violated section 609 of the Fair Credit Reporting Act but is now violating section 623 of the Fair Credit Reporting Act and Section 807 for Failure to Communicate that the alleged debt is disputed. As of Today XX/XX/2020, DISCOVER continues to report erroneous subterfuge on my person 's commercial credit report while under dispute. This is not only violations of FCRA, FDCPA, but Title 18 USC Fraud as well. The blatant disregard for Federal Law that DISCOVER is willingly choosing to ignore to violate my rights is causing me harm through my person which I may have to pursue legal action against them for Lack of Full Disclosure, Perjury, and Fraud with Scienter. I am keeping these records of communications in case I have to sue DISCOVER for willful non-compliance of Federal Law and violations of rights which will not only include {$1000.00} USD per inaccurate invalidated account but also {$10000.00} USD for every violation of Title 18. Please see attached screenshots for proof that DISCOVER is still reporting negatively without providing any contracts of proper documentation while under dispute. As stated by Attorney XXXX XXXX XXXX, of the FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION, a printout of a bill or itemized document does not constitution verification. Also, without proper Wet Ink Signature contracts per section 609 FCRA, it is impossible to determine if the partial account numbers reported to the Credit Bureau 's are in fact accurate or not. Please see attached evidence per XXXX XXXX notifications that this company is still reporting while under investigation.
