Issue: Problem when making payments

Subissue: Problem during payment process

Consumer Complaint: They will not allow me to allocate, or determine, where my payments go. Specifically, to the 0 % Intro APR promotional balance, which will expire soon. They will only apply the minimum payment due to the promotion, applying the rest to the higher interest. I understand that, by law, if a consumer does not specify the higher interest balance is paid first. But, I specifically requested that additional payments go to the promotion and they denied that request, time and time again. Which will now make it impossible for me to pay off the 0 % Intro Balance prior to the expiration. Discovers T & C does not state, anywhere, that you are not entitled to specify how your payments are allocated.

Consumer Complaint: I am writing to ask that you look into the predatory banking practices of Discover credit card. I am currently reeling from a shocking phone call I received on XX/XX/2020 from Discover, a credit card account I opened just 7 weeks ago. Discover demanded I release my 1040. If I did not comply, they threatened to close my account. This has all been verified. It was indeed Discover. See attached. I held a savings account at Discover Bank for over 8 years before deciding to open a Discover credit card. Following the normal credit application procedure, I unfroze all my credit reports, one at a time, at all three credit reporting agencies. Once approved, one by one, I refroze each credit report. Less than 7 weeks after receiving my card, I received a call from Discover card telling me to check my email and to respond to their request for the release of my 1040. ( see attached ) Shocked, I demanded to know why?! They claimed they saw unusual activity on my account. I hung up and called the number on the back of my card. I was then informed that my card had been put on a temporary hold until I complied and if I chose to not comply, my card would be closed in 2 weeks. Reason given : unusual activity. What in the world was going on? I was also locked out of reviewing my own account activity! My heart raced like never before! They said I had agreed to the use of this action per their user agreement. I could not argue as I did not read all '20 pages ' of it. I hung up and called Discover Bank where I have held a large account for over 8 years. I begged their assistance. They agreed this was disturbing but failed to intervene. What was happening to me? In total panic, I contacted the agency that monitors my credit activity fearing I may be a victim of identity theft. NO unusual activity. What is going on?! I am a senior citizen with pristine credit. I've never missed a bill in my life! Are they randomly targeting seniors? I am NOT complying with Discover 's demands. In fact, I immediately closed the card. I have also closed my account at Discover Bank after they failed to intervene on their own product. 4 days after closing both accounts, I CONTINUE to get emails from Discover continuing to ask me to release my 1040! ( See attached ) They have no right nor reason to be demanding this very personal information. Please investigate this as it is clearly predatory activity. Thank you. I look forward to your reply.

Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I took my truck for repairs at XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX Fl. I was disappointed with the repairs the dealer performed on my truck, so after complains made by me were unresolved I decided to challenge the already payment done with my Discover credit card on the amount of {$1200.00}. I went on to dispute it and the dealer agreed to check into it one more time without more charges, once dealer had my truck inside their premises they use it as a ransom and made me pay cash ( XXXX ) and also made me release the discover credit card disputed amount ( XXXX ) so I could get my truck back. I did call Discover and asked them to unlocked the credit back to XXXX XXXX XXXX in XXXX Fl. Once I got my truck back, I filed a complain to the XXXX in order to get back my {$1200.00} that the dealer was keeping ( Payment was only {$1200.00} that I paid on cash on XX/XX/XXXX, receipt attached ) Dealer made the rebuttal to the Discover credit card after the XXXX got in touch with them. All documentation was sent to Discover Credit Card by mail and also by uploading them on their website as I was told by the credit card.I already spoke three times with 6 different representatives on discover dispute department but it seems that they are reluctant to credit my account with {$1200.00} that the dealer XXXX XXXX already sent back to them.

Issue: Closing your account

Subissue: Company closed your account

Consumer Complaint: I applied for a Discover card in good faith. They approved a new card for me on XX/XX/2020 which was reported to the credit bureaus. On XX/XX/2020 I was informed that my account was to undergo a verification process which I happily complied with. On XX/XX/2020 Discover made a " business decision '' to close my account. This will negatively impact my credit report through no fault of my own. I contacted the company and they refused to give me any additional information. Basically they are accusing me of submitting a fraudulent credit application which is not true. What remedy do I have to correct this situation?

Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed

Subissue: Debt was result of identity theft

Consumer Complaint: I am writing to dispute an account fraudulently opened in my name. I am a victim of identity theft and did not open this account .I am a victim of the XXXX data breach. State issued ID have been compromised and my social security has been compromised. My postal mail was being forwarded out of state where theft of my personal information took place. I am not responsible for any charges made to these mentioned accounts. According to federal laws you are required to provide undeniable proof that this debt is valid. A fair resolution to this issue would be complete deletion of this trade mark being reported to all major credit reporting agencies. Thank you for your assistance

Subissue: Difficulty submitting a dispute or getting information about a dispute over the phone

Consumer Complaint: After receiving an advertising from Discover card on XX/XX/XXXX I did apply for the card. The advertising mentioned that it will not affect my credit score. Than came on my computer that the application was refused. Called Discover from my cell phone being out of State explaining that I couldn't not get the code. Discover told me sorry we can't do anything. Few days later saw that there was a hard inquiry on my credit score from Discover Financial. I already did contact you previously about this issue last year. Receive an email from a certain Mr. XXXX XXXX from the Executive office of Discover Financial. The contact person at Discover Executive office email is : XXXX, Phone number : XXXX I feel I have been mislead by the advertising of Discover card and ask this to be resolved. Respectfully, XXXX XXXX
