Issue: Problem with a credit reporting company's investigation into an existing problem

Subissue: Their investigation did not fix an error on your report

Consumer Complaint: Discover Financial Services failure to comply with FCRA 611 ( a ) ( 7 ) within the time set forth by law and continued reporting of unverified information which now, given all my attempts to address it directly with the creditor, as willful non-compliance.

Issue: Credit monitoring or identity theft protection services

Subissue: Didn't receive services that were advertised

Consumer Complaint: Victim of Identity Theft. I already have a personal loan account with Discover Personal Loans ( DPL ) and the account number is XXXX. On XX/XX/XXXX DPL without my authorization transferred XXXX $ s to my XXXX ( XXXX ) credit card and XXXX $ XXXX to some account in XXXX. I never heard this organization XXXX. I leant about this activity when DPS called me sometime in XX/XX/XXXX. Then i started disputing. I did not even realize that they transferred XXXX $ s to my XXXX CC. Sometime in XX/XX/XXXX DPL gave me XXXX number of XXXX. I called them, they searched their data base with name, SSN etc. and they could not find any. XXXX wanted Routing ID and first 3 digits of account which they did not give. I reported to XXXX and XXXX and they closed this account. XXXX is investigating. Sometime in early XXXX i consulted a Lawyer. As per my lawyer 's advise, following good faith tender agreement made XXXX $ s as FULL and FINAL payment to DPL as XXXX $ s came from them. Even though i did not authorize i made this payment and they accepted. They deposited the check. Now they are coming after me for the remaining XXXX $ s which they ( DPL ) themselfs don't know where they sent.

Issue: Closing your account

Subissue: Company closed your account

Consumer Complaint: DISCOVER closed my credit card account that is in GOOD STANDING, WITHOUT prior notice other than the email I received on XX/XX/2020 advising me it was closed, effective immediately. When I called the Portfolio Verification Department it was closed during business hours " because of a meeting. '' After 2 hours of constantly calling, I finally got someone on the phone, and they told me " there is nothing we can do, the account is now closed due to inactivity. '' The account has {$0.00} Outstanding Balance and my credit score is 710+. I've had this account for 10 years without ever missing a payment. How does this effect my credit score and who will be responsible for this? Their answer was to call the Credit Bureau.

Issue: Advertising and marketing, including promotional offers

Subissue: Didn't receive advertised or promotional terms

Consumer Complaint: I have several outstanding 0 % promotional balances with Discover Card, they sent me an offer for a 3.99 % offer that lasts for 15 months. When I made a payment to pay off a 0 % balance transfer that was expiring they applied the payment to the 3.99 % balance transfer instead of the the expiring 0 % offer and converted the expiring 0 % balance to a puchase which they charged 14.99 % interest on. When I spoke with them they stated it is in the terms and conditions and it was spelled out in the balance transfer offer on how payments are applied and they would not change anything. I asked which section of the terms and the conditions it was spelled out and the representative said he did not know. He finally agreed to mail me a copy of the terms and conditions. He refused to provide it electronically even though that is how I accepted the offer. This balance transfer offer was misleading and deceptive in that it was not clear that accepting a low interest balance transfer was going to cause a balance to convert to a purchase and incur higher interest rates

Issue: Problem with a credit reporting company's investigation into an existing problem

Subissue: Was not notified of investigation status or results

Consumer Complaint: Below is the letter sent to XXXX begining of XXXX and they still refuse to respond. XX/XX/2020 To : XXXX XXXX. XXXX XXXX XXXX, GA XXXX Re : Not able to access my account/XXXX refusing to verify my identification, and reporting in correct information. Then refusing to allow me to dispute the information saying they can't verify me. Im writing this letter because XXXX will not allow me to access my credit file, I have provided all identification information online and over the phone and XXXX claim you can not verify my identity. In addition, XXXX has caused Discover to close my account because XXXX stated they could not verify my identification provided through the requested form 4506-T Discover submitted. I called and spoke to an XXXX representative on XX/XX/2020 regarding this issue and was told that XXXX doesnt have enough information to verify my identification. This I dont understand knowing that XXXX is taking in and reporting out information on me. The representative said I need to send in a copy of my State ID/Drivers License and Social Security Card. I am aware of a breach of information in your system in the past and Im uncomfortable with providing this information, but XXXX is holding my information under hostage, preventing me from getting approval for a of line of credit, impacting my credit score and now Discover closing my account due to XXXX neglect. Attached is a copy of my Drivers License and Social Security Card, as requested. I need access to my XXXX account and I need XXXX to provide the requested information that Discover asked for so that maybe they will reconsider re-opening my account. Thanks

Issue: False statements or representation

Subissue: Attempted to collect wrong amount

Consumer Complaint: I attempted to resolve & negotiate credit debts thru XXXX XXXX back in XXXX of XXXX. I provided all amounts owed with contacts including phone numbers, account numbers & balance owed. At that point they started deducting {$1600.00} a month, as the months went by I started receiving collection notes, then it went on to more aggressive means as I started getting served by the courts for creditors that had been provided to XXXX when they started receiving funds. I sent all summons & letters to XXXX believing they are handling my accounts for me. I started questioning what is going on & why did it get to the point of me getting served by the courts when XXXX has been deducting funds to negotiate & pay my creditors for many months ( about a year almost ). I asked for reports for many months from XXXX XXXX in which I would never get anything sent as to what the progress was. I requested many times for report as to what was paid to creditors. I finally received a report XX/XX/XXXX from XXXX who stated he was the new account rep, I immediately explained to him my concerns & wanted an explanation of where my funds have gone. XXXX sent report reflecting {$18000.00} that XXXX had deducted from our account. The report reflects XXXX is holding on to almost 50 % of the funds due to inactive debt which XXXX explained these are accounts that closed with no effort to reach out to my creditor. I took it upon myself to call all creditors & they said no one from XXXX has ever reached out to them to negotiate, they had no idea any company was involved to negotiate debt or work out a payment. The only ones who did get a call was XXXX, XXXX XXXX XXXX out of XXXX creditors that where submitted. I have requested to date from XXXX to provide me with what exactly was paid & to which creditor it was paid to. I am still waiting for the report. It makes no sense for me to get served more than 3 times by the court when XXXX should have been handling all the creditors from the get go. Now as a result of XXXX negligence the balances & fees with these companies are much higher than when I submitted, they have caused more issues & made the debt worse then it was before I started out. They did not provide the services they advertise for debt relief, they made my situation worse. I need XXXX to take accountability & resolve the debts with the {$18000.00} they have received so far & provide proof they have resolved my debt with a feasible debt solution.

Issue: Problem when making payments

Subissue: You never received your bill or did not know a payment was due

Consumer Complaint: I hope who ever is reading this is having a great day, I reached out to Discover back in XXXX concerning this account letting them know my ex wife had opened this account without me knowing and ran up charges. They never contacted me back concerning this account so I was unaware of my payment due date. I didn't file a police report because I didn't want to see her get in trouble so I reached out to Discover to see what I could do to solve this issue. They never contacted me back and its been two month since I wrote their company disputing this account. This account is locked so I had no way of knowing how much the payments are or the due date. I recently been out of work due to the Corona Virus so its been hard financially. I reached out to Discover to let them know my situation and they said it was nothing they can do to help me I would have to dispute the late charges directly threw cfpb or Credit Bureau. I have never been late on no recent payments and this negative impact to my score has added to my stress during these hard times our country is facing. Can someone please help me with this situation. Thanks have a great day.

Issue: Trouble using your card

Subissue: Credit card company won't increase or decrease your credit limit

Consumer Complaint: I recently requested a credit line increase on Discover Card # XXXX and was declined, despite my excellent credit history. Discover sent a form letter ( attached ) that listed the reason for the denial as " status of existing / prior Discover Card account ''. I called the Credit Operations department on the letter and was told that the issue is an prior account that was charged off in 2011 XXXX XXXX ). This card had unauthorized charges in 2011 while I was overseas. I requested an investigation, which Discover refused to do, instead offering me a compromise of a the current card account and telling me that the 2011 matter would be removed from my internal history. Now Discover is telling me that this was not removed, my current account is still flagged for the previous account, and that they refuse to investigate the 2011 matter as being too old and the amount being too small ( {$500.00} ). I have been denied credit due to Discover refusing or neglecting to retain records and fully investigate the 2011 matter, or to remove the negative notation.

Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement

Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement

Consumer Complaint: In XX/XX/2020 among few purchases on XXXX with my Discover XXXX card Ive ordered XXXX XXXX XXXX for the {$160.00} which was successfully delivered to my business address in New York , located at XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX NY XXXX. Unfortunately, during the inspection of the item right after arrival Ive discovered that it looks and performs way different from what was described, on top of that it didnt seem authentic XXXX XXXX product. Therefore, Ive requested a return and a refund within XXXX XXXX 30 Days return. XXXX authorized this return with XXXX XXXX XXXX associated with provided XXXX Return Shipping label XXXX ( SEE COPIES ATTACHED ). The tracking information associated with this label indicating that item was successfully returned back to XXXX facilities, located in XXXX, KY as of XX/XX/2020. Later Ive received an email from XXXX confirming the recipience of the item and that I should expect a refund being issued back to my account, however I didnt see it being posted back. Ive thoroughly reviewed documents, provided in merchants rebutting and would like to point your attention to the facts in these papers, such as. In each .pdf XXXX shows that the return tracking numbers are matching the return tracking numbers attached by me and shows successful return of packages FROM NEW YORK STATE ( where Im located ) TO KENTUCKY STATE ( where XXXX facilities are located ). In all of these pdfs you can see phrase return requested true altogether with a tracking description matching previously attached by me documents. Additionally, merchant attached copies of the original tracking information in the bottom of the rebutting documents, proving my address in New York and confirming the fact of the original deliveries, which Im not rebutting.
