Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement
Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement
Consumer Complaint: XXXX is a gym membership that I had set up as a monthly charge on my Discover Card. I also was paying, for a period of time, for a separate membership for my son on the same card. XXXX has always been problematic ; continuously and egregiously raising the fees they were charging, attempting to double charge my account for several months, trying to pass through charges on my son 's membership after it had been canceled, not honoring the terms of a written agreement I had requested from my gym location 's customer service manager, etc I had various forms of communication with Discover Card personnel about my continual problems with XXXX. It seems that they took my side on these disputes and even blocked my credit card account from future charges from XXXX. Imagine my surprise when they reposted a {$54.00} charge from XXXX on my account in the latest billing cycle after promising that I wouldn't see any more charges from this vendor. ( They later rebated {$15.00} from that amount ). It appears that Discover has decided that even though they have decided in my favor about virtually every dispute that I've had with this vendor, if they allow enough time to elapse, they can try to pass through a charge from a disreputable vendor. I don't use the term disreputable vendor lightly ; XXXX was cited by the NY Attorney General for continuing to charge customers for membership fees during the period that their gyms were closed due to the current pandemic. It appears that Discover would rather take the side of a company that is now defending itself in a class action lawsuit as opposed to a loyal card holder who has always paid his obligations on time over many years. ( I've been a Discover Card holder since 2006 ).

Consumer Complaint: Someone hacked into my Discover credit card account on XX/XX/2019 and made a transfer of {$8400.00} to a XXXX Bank account XXXX in MN. Discover added a transfer fee of {$330.00} to bring the total to {$8700.00}. I reported the fraud to Discover Security in late XX/XX/2019. They called me saying that I had verbally approved the transfer so no fraud occurred. Not recalling me doing this I asked them to text me the recording of the call, but they refused, saying it was propriety information, needing a subpoena. I filed a fraud report to the Internet Fraud unit of the local XXXX XXXX department. The investigator contacted Discover Security who told the same story that I approved the transfer, so no fraud occurred, so no crime to investigate. I filed a complaint with the Internet Crime unit of the FBI in XXXX, and have never had a reply or response. Neither XXXX XXXX or Discover Security found out what XXXX Bank account holder received the transfer to get it back, or who hacked into my credit card account, nor did they try. Discover focused solely on blaming me ( without disclosing evidence ) and refused to credit the fraud amount to my credit account.

Issue: Closing your account
Subissue: Company closed your account
Consumer Complaint: Discover card member since XXXX. On Wednesday, XX/XX/XXXX I received an email from Discover informing me they had closed my account which was in perfect standing with a XXXX balance. They provided three reasons which included : Inactivity on your account ( s ) % of balances to credit limits is too high on revolving accounts Proportion of loan balances to loan amounts is too high I believe they closed the account due to inactivity since I haven't used the card after paying off a balance transfer last year of approx. {$7000.00}. However, regardless of the reason, I find it completely inhumane that a company would do something like this during these unprecedented times. I shared that when I called the company on Thursday, XX/XX/XXXX to discuss my options. I expressed I found it extremely disturbing they would do such a thing during this pandemic. I also shared that I believed they closed my account to minimize their risk because of the pandemic. What if I needed this lifeline during these times for me or my child? Not to mention how it will impact my credit in the event I need to pursue other options. The lady I spoke to was apologetic and said there was nothing the company could do. Their agreement states they can close an account at any time. She suggested I apply again to Discover. I didn't understand this reasoning since they just closed my account. I realized I wasn't going to get a resolution from the call, so thanked her and hung up. That's when I looked up how to file a complaint against Discover. I want to close by saying that I find it utterly appalling that Discover would treat their customers this way during these times when so many other companies are sending emails to ask how they can help. Is Discover helping other customers? If so, am I being discriminated against?

Consumer Complaint: I am on 'Stay at Home Orders ' because of Covid19 since XX/XX/2020. I work part-time so do not get a paycheck while furloughed/Whole state is shut down due to Covid19. I sent Discover Card {$100.00} on XX/XX/2020 toward my XXXX payment of {$450.00}. They called me 5 times on XX/XX/2020, I picked up and talked to them to see what they wanted. They want {$900.00} by XX/XX/2020 that I don't have! I told them I am on 'Stay Home Orders ', don't get paid, and I work only XXXX at a XXXX which is Non-essential business. The young man was talking fast and pounding me to say I would pay them {$900.00} that he gave me a XXXX XXXX! I asked him to lower my interest rate, make my monthly payment small, told him I want to pay but don't have it now! I was in Panic Mode and couldn't understand him any more and I told him that. He said he would mail me my bill but nothing has changed on it. Yesterday XX/XX/2020 Discover card called me 11 times and it happened to be the day my kitty died in my arms ... 11 phone calls in one day constitutes Harassment! I need them to work with me and stop the phone calls! Send it to me in writing.

Consumer Complaint: I received a letter from Discover dated XX/XX/XXXX stating my account will close due to inactivity on XX/XX/XXXX. The Pandemic hit the next month forcing me to obey the " stay at home order '' set forth by the WV Governor. I had not left the house until XX/XX/XXXX for a medical appointment. I was not able to use this card prior to the XXXX. I inquired with Discover on the XXXX and my account was " still open '' but I was told they would indeed close it within the next day or two. I made a purchase on the XXXX and it went through. I spoke with a Discover Supervisor after this purchase reminding her that the guidelines for this closure should not be reinforced because of this national crisis. If I had a balance on this account I would not have to pay it ; yet, I have an account in Excellent standing - with a {$15000.00} limit since XXXX and Discover will close my account and lower my credit score and effect my credit report due to no fault of my own. I had an Excellent credit score and need this more now as we are building a new home. I spoke with Discover Corporate on XX/XX/XXXX. I was told there was no exceptions for the closing guidelines due to the Virus. However, this state has changed guidelines for license expiration. I was issued a new card with only a limit of {$1000.00} with one click - why can't they keep my card open with one click?

Reporting incomplete information : - Missing closed date on a charge-off account. - Missing payment history. I am demanding a fair solution for this issue. I want a deletion letter and this item removed from my credit report. If this doesnt happen, I am willing to take this case to federal court. Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, my girlfriend and I purchased a real estate course/coaching program costing us {$41000.00}. I personally used 5 credit cards, XXXX XXXX ( {$3600.00} ), XXXX ( {$6000.00} ), XXXX XXXX ( {$10000.00} ), Discover ( {$720.00} ), XXXX XXXX ( {$8000.00} ). The remaining costs were covered by my girlfriend through her credit cards. On XX/XX/XXXX the company that I bought this program through, XXXX XXXX and its related entities, were placed into a Receivership and an injunction was filled against them. The injunction orders Ban on real estate-related investing or selling products and services and business coaching programs and therefore anything that I purchased through this company is no longer available to me and nothing will be delivered as agreed. As you can see this injunction was filled 5 months after my original purchase date ( XX/XX/XXXX ) and I no longer will receive all that was agreed on in the purchase agreement. Please visit XXXX for all paperwork and full documentation regarding this matter. On XX/XX/XXXX I sent a letter to XXXX XXXX in regards to this billing error with the same paper work that is attached to this current request. On XX/XX/XXXX I received a response from XXXX XXXX stating that my dispute had been declined and closed, quoting " to preserve your dispute rights, you must contact us within 60 days after the error appeared on your statement. '' as you can see, I had no control on when this happened. In addition, my girlfriend used her XXXX XXXX card for an amount {$10000.00} for the program and her case was resolved and cleared. Her dispute included the same paperwork and was put in the mail at the same time as mine. On XX/XX/XXXX I sent a letter to Discover in regards to this billing error with the same paper work that is attached to this current request. on XX/XX/XXXX I received a response from Discover stating that my dispute was against my favor and considered this charge to be valid. Furthermore, all of my other credit card disputes mentioned in the first paragraph have been cleared and taken off my account and credit score, with the exception of XXXX XXXX and Discover. I believe for both of these responses to be incorrect as I was not and will not receive any of the services I paid for with these cards. I have tried calling the companies again but they have closed these cases and will not allow me to reopen them. As of today XX/XX/XXXX I am still making monthly payments to both of these companies for services and products I did not receive and will not receive. It is also harming my credit score and in these tough times it also weights in my personal life. Thank you for your urgent help with matter
