Issue: Problem with a credit reporting company's investigation into an existing problem
Subissue: Their investigation did not fix an error on your report
Consumer Complaint: I have a credit card with Discover Financial Services. There was an incorrect charge on my Discover card and since I do not use the card I rarely go in there to check. The charge led to multiple late payment fees and I finally got a notice in the mail. I checked the notice and immediately contacted Discover. It took a few months for them to settle the dispute and acknowledge that was a fraudulent charge. Discover did go ahead and reimburse the fees, brought the account status back to normal however they did not go back and fix my credit. Due to this incident, my credit was impacted and brought my FICO score down and after repeated calls, they have not fixed this.

Consumer Complaint: I needed money for myself and my family. Old people and sick people are inclined to believe that there are also people in our society that are ready to help. And very soon, in XX/XX/XXXX, a person who was taking care of the less fortunate, appeared and offered me financial help - a big winning check from XXXX XXXX XXXX that could solve my problems. But there was a catch : I have to pay fees to get the check delivered. The check was going to be delivered at the beginning of XXXX, then, the end of XXXX, end of XXXX and finally it was never delivered. However, the requirement for the money I had to provide never ended. First, this individual used up the money in my Bank account, when it finished, I had to take a {$25000.00} loan from XXXX and send it to him. Because the money I provided was not enough, he took all my credit cards and charged them to the top to make " more money ''. I insisted that he had to pay his debt and return immediately the cards but he didn't return them, nor he paid what he had bought, as he promised. The only thing he did was to " open an account in my name in XXXX XXXX XXXX '' ( Routing number XXXX, Account number : XXXX, XXXX, Iowa, XXXX ) with {$40000.00}, so that I can start paying the credit card debts ''. I used efficiently the money to pay partially the credit cards. However, the same day, on XX/XX/XXXX, the checks were returned, because the bank declined the transactions. When the credit cards were blocked by the bank, he started squeezing all my savings and XXXX XXXX accounts until they drained. To all my complaints, the answer was that if I did not agree, he was going to donate the winning check to charity. This check is still in the air. He was using any mean tactic to take more and more money from me. Initially I trusted him. At the beginning of XXXX, XXXX, XXXX he or his team purchased for {$12000.00} in the country XXXX, with foreign currency, home improvement stuff ( attachment 1 ). On the next statement all the purchases were for using of restaurants, XXXX XXXX attachment 2 ), nothing was paid. The next statement XXXX shows my unsuccessful attempt to pay the balance with the false account that the scammer has created and its almost immediate cancellation. However, the purchases mainly of gasoline continued. The scammer did a small payment of {$310.00}, so that he could continue to buy more gasoline and go to more restaurants. At the end of XXXX, the balance reached {$16000.00} and continues to go up because of the fees. The fraud department of Discover declared that I had authorized the charges and wants me to pay the balance. As I have already explained : 1 ) I did not authorize the scammer to buy materials etc., stuff that I have no idea about ; 2 ) I was completely robbed and can not pay anything

Consumer Complaint: After signing up with Discover in XXXX, I was unknowingly signed up for " Payment protection '' which charged me XXXX for the service. At the time, this was my first credit card and was hardly used. Over the next XXXX years, I used the card sparingly and always kept the amount charged low, resulting in minimal and unnoticed " payment protection '' fees. It was not until the past XXXX years that I began using the card more frequently thus having higher payments each billing cycle. After closely inspecting the most recent bill, I noticed a high charge for the payment protection program. Not having remembered signing up for this policy, I contacted Discover and began researching the fee on the internet. Discover tells me I signed up for it when I signed up for my card in XXXX. I also find out that shortly after the time I would have signed up, Discover faced legal action over deceptive marketing of this policy. During my call with Discover, they were unable to provide me with proof of my informed consent to enroll in the payment protection program. Discover offered a reimbursement of XXXX billing cycles, which I feel is far too little. If Discover faced legal action and made a large settlement payment in XXXX, after I was enrolled in the program, why was I continued to be enrolled? Why was I not notified that I was enrolled in a program that was the focus of such enormous legal action due to deceptive marketing? I feel that Discover was knowingly deceptive when signing me up for my card and willfully negligent following the settlement as they should have reached out at this time for informed consent, fairly and clearly, after enrolling me fraudulently.
