Consumer Complaint: To Whom it May Concern, We are almost exactly a year into a catastrophic pandemic where over 500,000 Americans have died of Covid-19. Maintaining financial stability and good credit are paramount to surviving a cruel and mismanaged federal response. So it was to my great surprise that Discover sent me an email on XX/XX/2021 that stated my {$8000.00} credit line was being canceled, and my account would be closed. " As a result of a recent review of the Discover it card account referenced above, we have reduced the credit line on your account and it will be closed within 30 days from the date of this letter. This action will be taken for the following reason ( s ) : Inactivity on your account ( s ) Serious delinquency Time since delinquency is too recent or unknown '' I contacted Discover on XX/XX/XXXX to contest the cancelation, in which they told me the decision could not be reversed. They followed up on XX/XX/2021 with a phone call from a supervisor who confirmed it would not be reversed. The " serious delinquency '' was a student loan that ( unbeknownst to me ) was not covered by the CARES act and went a few months unpaid. As I am unemployed ( due to the pandemic ) I resolved the issue with the student loan lender by deferring payment, but they refused to reverse the derogatory mark. This has created a cascading effect, where several of my credit lines have been attacked. XXXX XXXX attempted to reduce my XXXX credit line. Now Discover. What's next? The " inactivity '' was me trying to be frugal in an incredibly stressful period in AMERICAN HISTORY. I didn't use the card, because I feared getting into debt when there is limited income. This decision by Discover is unreasonable and needlessly destructive to my credit, in a time when uncertainty is incredibly high. To kick those who are down, who have played by rules, and are just trying to survive is borderline criminal. Something must be done. My credit score has plummeted 150 points overnight. These credit card companies must not be allowed to continue with their tone-deaf policies. And rhis must be happening to millions of other Americans. It's not right.

Consumer Complaint: Went to first time home buyers program and credit was pulled and was informed about 2 credit card charge offs both opened in XXXX without my knowledge. I was advised to get police reports, identity theft reports and dispute directly with bureaus. I sent letters with police report, identity theft report and Id in XX/XX/XXXX for validation of debt, none was provided. Sent letters again XX/XX/XXXX and again certified XX/XX/XXXX. I was XXXX in XXXX and had no knowledge of anything related to credit nor have I ever had a credit card until XXXX I just got a secured card to use my own money while I learn about credit. I have contacted the creditors as well and still have yet to receive proof of these debts. XXXX XXXX opened XX/XX/XXXX owed {$3100.00} Discover card opened XX/XX/XXXX owed {$3600.00} I will be starting litigation using ground " I have not supplied proof under the doctrine of estoppel by silence, Engelhardt v. Consumer Complaint: My discover account was closed over 7 years ago ( 2013 ) and I have disputed it on all the credit Bureaus. Most removed the account. XXXX has not and instead discover is now negatively impacting my credit with added late payments each month. The company never got in touch with me in over 7 years and had it marked as a charge off/ profit loss the entire time causing me to be denied for several opportunities based on credit worthiness. Not to mention that it was wrongfully out that amount to begin with. After making one payment with my fathers bank account, of which he reported as fraud, they then Removed every payment i had ever made putting a XXXX dollar credit card at XXXX debt. Now its time for it to be removed from credit report entirely and instead they are adding even more negative impacts.

Consumer Complaint: This communication is a response to the closed status of CFPB Case no. XXXX. I filed my original complaint subsequent to CFPB 's notice in XXXX regarding XXXX student loans and fraudulent lending practices. I wanted to go on record regarding my experience with Discover. Discover responded to my CFPB complaint in a letter dated XXXX XXXX, XXXX that contained numerous false claims. I was not offered the option on the CFPB website to respond, and during a phone call to CFPB today, I was informed that my only recourse now is legal counsel. Please add to my record of this case that Discover responded to my complaint with additional fraudulent claims and misrepresentations. I am not going to seek legal counsel as I am facing health issues which require my full attention currently. I do feel that CFPB should have seen this case to a final resolution instead of further allowing this predatory lender to continue its unethical practices and victimizing vulnerable borrowers.
