Issue: Trouble using your card
Subissue: Can't use card to make purchases
Consumer Complaint: Applied for a secured Discover card XX/XX/2021. Card approved with a security deposit of {$400.00} to rebuild credit. However after and I do mean after the card was approved and funded the business wanted a signed IRS document to pull my tax returns. They then declined the account and are keeping my money as theft for over 30 days until refunded. I requested an expedite on the funds. I also requested an interest for holding funds after the approval of an APR similar to a payday loan as they are holding my money for misuse of my funds after approval. Any legitimate business would know that at approval you pull tax returns not after and then hold funds as if borrowing the money. I had received the card in the mail funded with my money and then blocked from using it so I want compensated for them borrowing from me. In the chat the supervisor sounded like a groupie as I hear you and feel for you. We strive here to improve and definitely will document this as part of the process which is not professional nor ethical. I think too many of these employees are doing drugs and are misusing the business and allowed to demeaning this country and ethics.

Then I signed up on XXXX XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX, but still haven't received my {$45.00} statement credit. I have already tried to contact Discover via their online chat, and their agents and supervisors told me that " after reviewing the account, [ he ] found that it did not earn the XXXX XXXX XXXX statement credit. One or more of the requirements were not met. '' Then, I asked which requirements that it wasn't met. Their supervisor told me : There were several requirements which were listed in the email. These requirements include : 1 ) It must have been a new membership 2 ) The new member can not have been a member within the last 6 months 3 ) The offer could not be combined with any other promotions, including membership promotions offered by XXXX XXXX XXXX 4 ) Was only valid for a basic membership ; it excluded Plus memberships, membership renewal, membership upgrades, add-ons, additional memberships, pre-paid memberships or XXXX XXXX XXXX Gift of Membership 5 ) Only memberships bought within the United Sates are eligible Since the credit was not applied, one or more of these qualifications was not met. Is there anything else I can assist you with? Sill, I have no clue which requirements I did not meet. I feel like that I have been scammed by Discover and request them to pay me back my {$45.00} bonus, since I followed every single step provided by their email promotion.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2021 I contacted Discover to report fraud on my credit card. They told me that the fraud department was going to investigate the charges and they would cancel my card ending in XXXX. They apparently did not investigate the charges or cancel my card and allowed charges of {$69.00} to go through for a charge they should not have allowed. The charge was for one of my automatic bill payees. However, I had already made arrangements to pay my directly to the service provider and now Discover is refusing to reverse the charge of {$69.00} from the unauthorized activity and holding me responsible..

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, I placed an order on XXXX in the amount of {$120.00}. On XX/XX/XXXX, the tracking information showed that the delivery was signed for by XXXX XXXX, and documents obtained from the post office confirm that. This individual is not an authorized recipient for the intended delivery address, and the handwritten delivery address under the signature is substantially different than the delivery address that was provided to XXXX. ( See attachment-1 ) On XX/XX/XXXX, documents provided by XXXX supporting the validity of the charge confirm that the package was improperly re-routed to an incorrect address, and that it was signed for by XXXX XXXX ( See attachment-2 ) Because my original dispute was on the grounds that the item was not delivered, I believe that these two documents are sufficient proof that the package was not delivered to the intended recipient.

Consumer Complaint: DISCOVER CARD SENDS FALSE STATEMENT TO CUSTOMER CREATING {$7200.00} IN EXPENSES FOR CUSTOMER CUSTOMER SCAMMED I opened an account on XX/XX/XXXX for a credit card with {$8000.00} credit line. Someone I had made friends with online ( I later obtained information which leads me to believe this is an organized crime ring based in XXXX ) asked to borrow some money to ship some gold to the US and agreed to pay me back. I sent about {$7500.00} to this person on XX/XX/XXXX. The return payment of {$7000.00} was made from an unknown account ( not my account ) on XX/XX/XXXX. Discover Card told me the payment was received and gave me credit on my balance making {$7000.00} additional money available for me to spend. I sent an additional {$7200.00} on XX/XX/XXXX. The payment was returned on XX/XX/XXXX. I would not have sent the additional {$7200.00} and would not have been able to if not for Discover Card 's false statement. I turned this over to the FBI IC3 unit but the unit has not taken any action to date and they say they probably will not take any action. The courts awarded Discover Card {$7500.00} they paid a different court {$1000.00} security and they were then awarded {$14000.00} plus legal costs.

Issue: Getting a line of credit
Subissue:
Consumer Complaint: In XX/XX/2021, I receive an offer from Discover Personal Loan of {$25.00} personal loan and i applied online. I got a denial letter email on XXXX XXXX. The reason of the denial was Unusual risk seen with other similar personal loan applications. I am suprise and confused because according to their own credit monitoring, my FICO score was XXXX, {$0.00} late payment and my debt ratio was under 30 % I called the customer service in Arizona and spoke with XXXX to get an explanation and she can not explain either of what is denial is all about. It is my impression that if you applied for credit you application was being reviewed based on your ability to pay, debt ratio, delinquency ( if any ) and not by comparing my risk with other applicants I sent a letter on XX/XX/2021 requesting Discover to explain details the reason of the denial and as of today, i have not receive any response from Discover.

Subissue: Problem with balance transfer
Consumer Complaint: I accepted an offer from Discover last year for a promotional 6.99 % interest rate on balance transfers or new purchases. I read the fine print and agreed to the 12-month term of the offer, which stated if the balance of the transfer or purchase was not paid off within 12 months, the balance would be subject to my regular, higher interest rate. My plan was to make equal payments each month to pay off the promotional rate balance prior to its expiration. However, when the balance did not decrease at the rate I thought it should, I " discovered '' that Discover applies only the minimum payment to the lower interest rate balance. Anything above the minimum goes to the higher interest rate balance. This arrangement makes it impossible to pay off the lower-interest balance before the special rate expires unless I pay off the entire balance of the card ( not currently an option ). " XXXX '' in customer service tried to tell me that Discover is actually saving me money by putting my payment above the minimum due towards the higher interest balance. In fact, this does not save me money in the long run because the remaining balance will be subject to the higher rate at the end of the promotion term. Discover lowered my regular interest rate by 1.05 % in an attempt to appease me. I asked if they could raise my " minimum amount due '' so that I could pay down the special interest rate offer in a reasonable timeframe. They refused. This is a debt trap and very consumer unfriendly.

Issue: Trouble during payment process
Subissue:
Consumer Complaint: I am a senior citizen and military veteran. Prior to submitting a loan with Discover Home Loans, I stipulated I wanted my payment due on a specific date each month. Discover confirmed this could be done and sent several emails to me as such. I was approved for the loan. From XXXX to XXXX I have tried over seven time to have Discover change my payment date as was agreed to do as a condition of the loan. They transfer me to a different agent each time with no agreed upon payment date change. Discover guaranteed this could be done if I took out a loan with them. XX/XX/XXXX : Discover Home Loan email confirming new loan #, states your payment is due on the XXXX of every month. If you would like to change your monthly due date, give us a call and we can move it up to 15 days after the original date, from the XXXX to the XXXX of each month. This change can be made one time. Email attached. XX/XX/XXXX : Called Discover Home Loans to change the monthly due date to XXXX, 15 days after the original date. Was informed that an email needed to be sent to XXXX and would take three to four days to process. Email attached. XX/XX/XXXX : Date change still not processed, I called for a status update. Was informed by XXXX ( who hung up on me and called me back ) she couldnt help and would set up escalation for that department and it would take XXXX XXXX hours. XX/XX/XXXX : Still not processed. Called and XXXX directed me to a supervisor, because he couldnt help. Spent 45 minutes on the phone with supervisor, XXXX, who told me she would escalate, as she could not complete. XX/XX/XXXX : Still not processed. Called and was told by a different supervisor, XXXX, it would be processed by XX/XX/XXXX. XX/XX/XXXX : Still not processed. Received an email from XXXX ( XXXX ) XXXX, Resolution Specialist, that she would be handling and the contact throughout resolution and will contact me by phone or email by XX/XX/XXXX to provide an update and/or resolution.
