Issue: Improper use of your report
Subissue: Credit inquiries on your report that you don't recognize
Consumer Complaint: Ive checked my credit report and notice unauthorized inquiries on my report from Discover Financial Service. I have never authorized it and that the creditor did not have permissible purpose. According to the Fair Credit Reporting Act, Section 604, a creditor shouldnt have access to a consumer 's credit information unless the individual himself gives written permission, or unless credit access is court-ordered or requested by a state or local government agency in relation to child support. I called Discover and ask them to verify and validate and see me physical proof that I applied for this. Upon talking to the company they could see anywhere is there system bearing my name or any application. They also sent a letter to my home address verifying that I did not actual apply for credit. I called the credit bureau and I also disputed the inquiry and I with uploaded the letter that Discover provided me. XXXX told me that Discover would have to send them a correspondence stating for them to remove the inquiry.

Consumer Complaint: Discover closed my credit card account which I had maintained in good standing for more than 30 years due to inactivity. The cfpb should stand on the side of consumers in this matter, since the entire world was effectively shutdown due to the COVID 19 pandemic in 2020. It is unconscionable that big business can use a computer default to close accounts and concurrently negatively impact credit scores. I am XXXX years old and like the majority of Americans, I followed CDC, federal and state guidelines to shelter in place for 2020. That Discover Card apparently continued their practice of closing accounts during the pandemic makes them the worst of business players. If nothing else Discover Card is the poster boy of bad business behavior during this most difficult time in world and American history. Over the years I most often used DC to shop at XXXX but in recent years XXXX is mostly closed, so my use of the credit card was limited to paying off accumulated debt and balance transfers. In my defense, Over the years I have paid off more than {$20000.00} in debt lo Discover Card and certainly they received interest on my debt. I rate them poor in business practice and consumer confidence.

The representative informed me that I should have known which lead me inform her of my veteran XXXX such as XXXX and XXXX XXXX XXXX. I believe my FCRA right and HIPPA privacy were violated. Consumer Complaint: Discover Bank is reporting late notations on my credit file that need to be removed. I recently looked at my credit and noticed some late notations on my credit file. Due to XXXX and the unforseen events in my life because of it, I was severely financially impacted. I had a very hard time and was very scraping by on bare necessities. I was surprised to see Discover Bank report any lates at this time since under the CARES act creditors were supposed to take leniency on credit reporting because of hardships surround the pandemic. The bureaus specifically stated they expect consumer reporting agencies to make good faith efforts and have leniency. I ask that Discover please take leniency on my hardship and remove any 2020 lates as a one time goodwill adjustment.

Consumer Complaint: Discover is recording a late payment from XX/XX/2019 on my account ending in XXXX. Ive called multiple times regarding this late payment appearing on my credit report to have it removed because its inaccurate & erroneous. They first told me it would be removed, then they told me it wouldnt be. I asked for an investigation regarding a phone call I had with one of their representatives who assured me that it wouldnt be recorded because of a discover error locking my username. However it has been recorded on my report for several years. Ive been reassured that it would be removed several times. It has not. Recently I spoke with them and they said its verified and theres nothing thats reporting inaccurately. They refuse an investigation into the phone call because they dont keep recordings over 12 months. So they refuse to prove that it was their error & refuse to rectify my credit report due to their mistake. Ive asked multiple times for an investigation, they have not provided any paperwork regarding an investigation. Ive pushed them on the phone to get something more definitive but they constantly hang up. It has been more than 45 days since Ive received anything written.
