Issue: Closing your account
Subissue: Company closed your account
Consumer Complaint: I had a Discover Credit card opened in XXXX. I have used this card up to $ XXXX charged and paid it down to {$0.00} - I used this card to establish credit and have maintained this account as my longest credit line since opened. I depend on the length of time with this account to maintain a nice XXXX credit score. I last paid this in full XX/XX/XXXX. Today, I logged into my discover account and saw the message " there is a lock on your credit account. please call us ''. I always have a lock on my credit report so no new accounts are opened fraudulently in my name. So this was not a shock. But, when I called I was told my XXXX yr account had been closed due to inactivity. I have historically used this card every few years and have never had an issue. The online activity I can see also shows XXXX balance XX/XX/XXXX. I was told that I can reapply for a new card, but that they could not reopen it. I am not having a new credit inquiry hit my report, nor am I scrapping XXXX years of good credit history. They claim they sent me a letter, but I do not recall receiving it - I truly would never have let this account close as it is important for my credit health.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2022 I made a online purchase from a online website called XXXX. Fake counter fake jewelry advertised as 14kt Gold ring. I took rings to authenticate metal and was told by pawn broker and jewelry store items were fake. I reached out to XXXX about returning items to seller and was immediately blocked by seller ; XXXX the vendor closed my case indicating window for returns was 3 days, I had just received items 2 days prior so my window was not closed! I contacted Discover Credit to dispute this charge and was told they opened investigation but never contacted me ; upon several attempts on my behalf to submit correspondence from sellers I was then after the fact told by Discover I required to get a Certified Counter fake investigator to sign off or provide me a letter with [ his ] Certification Seal indicating items are fake. I asked where I can find this entity? I was told by Discover to hire a lawyer! To provide me more details!? I was confused this requirement seems unreasonable as Discover is supposed to protect me. I need a resolution

Issue: Written notification about debt
Subissue: Didn't receive notice of right to dispute
Consumer Complaint: The original creditor was Discover. Due to financial hardship ( loss of jobs ), I could not continue the payment on the account. It was sent to XXXX and XXXX in XXXX XXXX. I was repeatedly harrassed, the debt inflated quickly, but I eventually reached a settlement agreement with XXXX XXXX XXXX that I repeattedly told them was beyond what I could pay. They still insisted and set up an automatic bank withdrawal via post-dated checks. I called after every payment to indicate that I could not make the next payment. When the last payment was due, I did not have the funds and could not come up with the funds. I called to let them know, they drafted anyway, and it bounced. When I tried calling to set up some way to make the last payment, they told me I was out of luck and that I would be responsible for the entire debt before the settlement because I failed to make the payment. I didn't hear from them for quite a while until I became aware of a default judgment against me. They had served the renter of our property, and I never received the summons. Earlier this year, I received a call indicating they would like to discuss the matter. With over a decade since the original conversations, I asked that they send me documentation in writing instead of an inflated value over the phone of an amount that is quite larger than the original debt and the judgment. I have yet to receive anything. It has been months. I would like this matter settled in a fair and accurate way as soon as possible.

Issue: Opening an account
Subissue: Account opened as a result of fraud
Consumer Complaint: A checking account was opened with Discover in my name despite having a security freeze in place with all three credit bureaus. Discover stated the account will be closed. I have since placed a freeze with XXXX to prevent future fraudulent bank accounts. When I initially had my identity stolen a few years ago, I was not made aware of this additional site to freeze, and did not realize that banks don't use the credit bureaus for checking accounts.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2022, I was charged {$7500.00} to my Discover credit card. I saw the charge during the night, but did not call until I woke up for the day around XXXX. I called Discover and they immediately closed the account and started the fraud investigation. After doing their research, they determined it was an authorized purchase because of my card was not reported as stolen, I was in the geographic location of the purchase, and that I sent them a confirmation text which I do not recall ever sending. I have sent Discover a screenshot of my account statement where the transaction says for the above amount. After they concluded their investigation, they posted {$9000.00} to my account, and the reasoning behind the extra {$1500.00} was that it was a " tip for services '' that was not posted before the account was closed. After asking for the receipt so I can verify my handwriting and signature for the purchase, the merchant ( XXXX XXXX ) and Discover have failed to provide any documentation. The failure to produce simple documentation such as a purchase receipt is good evidence this is fraudulent activity. The same night, two of my other credit cards were tried for {$3500.00} and {$2500.00} respectively. Both those cards blocked the transactions and sent me new cards and that was the end of it. My Debit card was also used that night to make two {$400.00} purchases which Mastercard investigated and all that money was credited back to my account upon the completion of their investigation. My bank 's investigation and ultimate ruling in my favor for two fraudulent charges that occurred the same night as this Discover situation should be a good indication that what was happening that evening was not me. Someone was charging my cards without my authorization and I would verify much appreciate seeing the documentation where I signed off for a purchase of {$7500.00} with my handwriting of a {$1500.00} tip on the receipt.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2022, I unknowingly made a purchase on a fraudulent website which had no intention of ever sending out the product I purchased. Upon reading of other people having the same experience, I canceled my order. The company sent me a fake cancellation email, and did not refund my purchase - documentation that I informed Discover that I had, and would have been happy to provide. I contacted Discover Bank today, XX/XX/XXXX, where after being transferred 4 times to different agents, the representative told me that Discover would not be continuing with a chargeback, because it was not the result of identity theft. The agent proceeded to tell me that I should resolve my issue with the merchant by " complaining about it online ''. This is in violation of the Fair Credit Billing Act regarding disputing a charge for a good or service that one did not receive as a billing error.
