Consumer Complaint: I opened a checking 's account with Discover Bank in order to use their 1 % back debit card. That card was activated on the XXXX of XXXX. Since Discover Bank is entirely virtual with no physical banking locations, I would have to deposit checks, wire money, or so forth virtually in order to submit funds to the account. On XX/XX/XXXX I deposited a cashiers check for the amount of {$5900.00} plus a {$10.00} fee for the cashiers check, totaling {$5900.00} being removed from my XXXX bank account, and {$5800.00} being deposited into my Discover Bank account. The following morning I saw that the cashiers check had cleared pending charges and was in the account, although I did not attempt to use any of it incase it was still not entirely available yet ( the Discover Bank app makes it confusing to know if the funds are entirely available or not yet ). Later that day on the XXXX I received an email from Discover Bank saying " we noticed unusual activity on your account. For security purposes, we have suspended access to your account. If you have already spoken to us about this, no further action is needed. '' I immediately called them with quite distress as practically every dollar I own as a college student was supposed to be deposited into that account. Upon calling them an automated message told me they closed my account upon suspicious activity and no longer would like to do business with me. It continued to say my funds would be held for up to 60 days which is when a check would be written and sent back to me. I tried to connect to an agent who was extremely kind, but offered no real help as she could not find out any additional information. By this time I had merged my father into the call as I was panicking and couldn't think clearly myself. We ended up speaking to a manager who claimed to of escalated the complaint and said that he would reach out to the department that closed the account and try to find answers, giving me a call back by Monday the XXXX of XXXX at the latest. Monday comes around and I have not received a call. I gave the manager until Tuesday the XXXX of XXXX just in case, but still as of today, the XXXX of XXXX I have heard nothing back. At this point, I have tried to be patient and kind to Discover Bank, asking and waiting patiently to speak to someone who may know something about the account closure, offering to even provide proof that the funds were 100 % real and in no part fraud, but they have evidently not cared enough to reach back out. I am confused how not only can a bank be so careless about an individuals funds ( especially when those funds were supposed to be directed towards paying my share of rent to keep a roof over my head for the next 5 months ), but also how they can hold money without no proof or willingness to be provided proof for up to 60 days? Is 60 days considered " a reasonable amount of time '' as coined by the FDIC? I will be providing a screenshot of the statement from XXXX bank proving the funds came from my account and were verified by XXXX. Please note, I would provide the account number if I could, although I never received an account statement and can not access the online account to find it. If there are any other questions, please let me know.

Consumer Complaint: I recently opened a Discover checking and savings account because I was excited to try out their new cash-back debit card. I set up direct deposit through my employer to fund the account. I use it for my every day banking. All of my money is in this back account. On XXXX I received an email telling me that they had noticed some fraudulent activity and that I needed to contact them IMMEDIATELY. So I called them as soon as I could, only to find out they had already completely closed my account with nearly {$1900.00} in it. Their email was extremely misleading, because by the time I had called them my account wasnt suspended, it was CLOSED, which was not reversible. Why even waste my time and have me call if youre going to close it anyway? I did nothing wrong! They then told me that it would be upwards of 60 days or more until I received a check to reimburse me. I cant wait that long! I work hard for my money and Im not a shady person. I dont get why my account has been closed. They offered no explanation. They refused to work with me and to help me understand what was happening. They provided me with XXXX resources, and now Im completely broke and Im scared of the financial ripple effect. I live on a tight budget, and having access to XXXX money is incredibly scary, especially when I go to work every day to make money and the bank decides to close my account without giving me a chance. There was XXXX warning, and I still have no idea how Im going to survive or keep my apartment. Im absolutely devastated. My account was in good standing, how are they allowed to do this to people? I have to panic and figure out a way to survive because they closed an account in good standing? Makes XXXX sense.

Consumer Complaint: XXXX XXXX, the CEO of Discover directly discriminated against me for usage in good faith and enforcement of my rights by closing my accounts after a failed billing error dispute in which XXXX XXXX XXXX, did not proceed with a proper investigation, after questioning the accounting information and the interest that was accumilated during my accounts in good standing, after his facility losing several of my payment instruments, after requesting the security information and bond serial numbers, after requesting my portion of the interest XXXX XXXX XXXX, collected by selling my information to third parties and lending out my illegally and corceced finance charge I was led to believe I had to make in order to obtain credit, my accounts were closed and my rights to credit violated, my payments blocked and lost. Many disclosures were not provided such as the form to right to reccession, and many others. XXXX XXXX XXXX refuses to remove inaccurate reportings on my consumer report which is now considered libel and slander thus he directly has defamed my character and consumer profile. XXXX XXXX XXXX, has caused me direct harm and injury and that to my family as well, such as mental anguish, XXXX, defamation. emotional distress, financial harm, etc. In the CFPB publishing credit reporting is VOLUNTARY under chap 3.1.1 and XXXX XXXX., outright refused me my right to this voulntary system. I was unaware of many things such as the rates for cash advance at a store counter, XXXX, and the atm which are all very different. I have revoked the right for Discover to furnish anything on my consumer reports and have requested the tradelines removed over three times, with each tine ending in denial and violation of my rights. I have requested the 1099C since a charge off by the IRS definiton is actually INCOME which is 100 % ILLEGAL and unlawful to report on a consumer report again with harsh denial. I have been notified this company has been submitting 1099 A, B, and C 's behind my back without proper disclosures to me and on my behalf without ackowledgement using electronic signatures in lieu of my actual signatures thus committing fraud however although they dio not deny it and some have admitted it then blocked my access to my account, they refuse to allow me to review them. I have sent them UCC 9-210 request with definitions and instead of showing me the books and numbers to see how much money they have made off me they send me account summaries of my spending. I am sadden, embarressed and fustrated. I only want the truth and to stop being taken advtange of. I am the orginal creditor since my signature created the credit out of thin air and they have my social security card and number of it which is the orginal credit card according to federal laws 15 usc 1602 et seq.

Consumer Complaint: My husband died 8 weeks ago unexpectedly from a XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX in XXXX and had no life insurance. I filed bankruptcy but then submitted a voluntary dismissal from that court. I am in possession of the court ordered dismissal granted XX/XX/XXXX, XXXX Credit reports do state the dismissal however, I was denied a prepaid credit card by Discover Bank due to " bankruptcy ". I did speak to two account managers this morning but was told they will not take into consideration the court ordered dismissal as well as the fact my home was purchased cash as well as both vehicles being fully paid for. My water bill of $ XXXX arrived last week yet I did pay {$400.00}. Electric bill was {$110.00}. I paid {$300.00}. This, to me is discrimination. I am currently paying XXXX XXXX XXXX {$540.00} a month for four years for the debt. I do receive {$3100.00} per month in VA benefits and SS.

Consumer Complaint: Ive sent Discover multiple correspondences in regards to reporting inaccurate account information. Demanding them to delete/remove the account, but my demand has fell on deaf ears. At this point Im left with no choice but to take my ignored complaints to a higher governing authority. The XXXX, XXXX XXXX. XXXX XXXX, The CRA must give you a written report of the investigation. Also pursuant to XXXXFCRA states that if the account is inaccurate it must be deleted. As mentioned in the FTCs Advisory Opinion Press Release on XXXX, In sum, it is our view that a CRA that always scrambles or truncates account ( or social security ) numbers does not technically comply with Section 609 because it does not provide " accurate '' ( and perhaps not " clear '' ) disclosure of " all information '' in the file. I notified Discover of this FTC violation and it appears they ignored it. I have also notified XXXX in regards to this inaccuracy of this account. XXXX and Discover have both failed in their responsibility to conduct an appropriate investigation of the account. As seen in, Estate of XXXX v. XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. XXXX. XXXX ( XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX ). XXXX is known for claiming to have verified an account without ever providing proof. In conclusion, Ive notified XXXX and Discover both have failed to uphold their FCRA, as well as XXXXFCRA duties. This has brought great distress due to the fact that I have gotten multiple denials for auto and home loans etc. This is defamation of character on multiple levels and libel, which has harmed my abilities to acquire these basic necessities of life.

Consumer Complaint: I am stated to owe my discover card over XXXX which was not my fault, when I called customer service on XX/XX/2021 i had stated that i have made an XXXX dollar payment towards my card. then i has notcied a day after my limit was reached. I had called and made sure that my payment was processed and was wondering I was at my limit. A week and a half goes by and Im at my limit again so I cant Im OK I get paid every two weeks and I just put {$1000.00} payment which was my check at that time into the card. then I was told that I didnt have enough money in my debit cards account and it was sent back. I have never received that money back. I stated to another customer service representative my issue they investigated it and said yeah that doesnt make sense since. then they have closed my account stating that Ive committed credit bureau fraud when I havent done anything wrong. when I called the board to say if I committed this XXXX is my money or why dont I have my money I get no reply except for I dont know the board directors have canceled your card and now I can not pick up my credit score.

Consumer Complaint: Good Morning, This is my second time having to contact you all re : Discover. I do not dispute that I owe them money, however, I called them many months ago to explain that I am not currently working full time due to effects of long term covid. They agreed to lower my interest rate to under 10 % ( from an obscene 25 % ) and to move back the date my payment is due by a week because that is when I get paid. Instead, I have been charge 4 late payment fees totaling {$160.00} and interest at 25 %. For instance, I made a {$1000.00} payment a few days ago on XX/XX/XXXX and they still charged me a {$40.00} late fee. ( I was late by 3 days after I had asked them to change my payment date. ) I don't understand why they are doing this and are not honoring their agreement. I will pay my debt, but I'm asking them to live up to their agreement and remove both the {$160.00} worth of late fees and the many hundreds of dollars they have overcharged me in interest. And on a personal note, I thought this was the way it's supposed to work ... in the sense of, a person is struggling and they contact a company to help them during a rough time and the parties come up with a reasonable solution. I've held up my agreement but Discover continues to overcharge me and seem uncaring about a medical condition that is placing me into severe financial difficulty. I am asking for your help as each time I contact them, they give me rote answers and false promises that they will get it corrected. I am at wit 's end with Discover and need some help. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Consumer Complaint: I purchased a treadmill from XXXX XXXX XXXX The billing date was XX/XX/2022. There was an introductory free XXXX interactive service that could be used with the treadmill. It was free for a month. Of note is my treadmill did not work. I contacted XXXX XXXX XXXX via email on multiple occasions ( a waited on hold for hours while never getting someone to answer ). When I received a email on XX/XX/XXXX indicated I would now start being charged, I sent an email indicating I did not want the service -- -- I couldn't use it with a broken treadmill nor did I want to pay XXXX. XXXX attempted to charge me for the service on multiple occasions. Discover Card sided with me on the XXXX instance which was likely XXXX but since then have sided with XXXX. They have indicated that since I never received an acknowledgement from XXXX, they were going to side with them. Note that it is in XXXX 's best interest to ignore my cancellation and continue charging me. There is no incremental cost for them whether I used the platform or not... but I never used XXXX. It is in XXXX 's interest to continue to ignore my requested cancelation and charge me. Of note, I have never used the XXXX service during this period. I have since cancelled my credit card with Discover Card after being a customer for decades. There are multiple charges either under review or Discover sided with XXXX. The total amount in dispute is likely XXXX. During my most recent conversation with XXXX from XXXX on XXXX, I recorded the conversation including their position that I needed an acknowledgement. XXXX was aware the conversation was recorded.

Consumer Complaint: I received my most recent statement in the mail from Discover and noticed that the interest rate on my APR for purchases had increased from % 9.24 to % 10.75. Today, XX/XX/2022, I called Discover to inquire. The initial representative directed my call to a second representative that informed me that the United States government increased all APRs across the board by % .75. I had expressed concern to her that I did not receive anything in writing to explain why or when my interest rate increased. When I asked for it to be lowered back to the original percentage rate, she transferred my call to a manager. When I expressed my concerns regarding my APR being increased by % 1.51, he told me to watch the news and there was nothing he could do to help me because its the government and Discover has to make money too. He said he would at least look to see if I have any promotional rates, to which there were none. I have not had any promotions because I've had this card for a very long time. He knew this was the case, but told me to check back in 2 weeks to one month. This is misleading information, as he knows I won't have any special promotions.
