Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed
Subissue: Debt was paid
Consumer Complaint: Discover Bank is willfully, knowingly and illegally trying to double collect money from me by reporting a debt that they told the Internal Revenue Service ( IRS ) that they took a loss on in XXXX and reduced their tax payment liability and " issued a XXXX debt cancellation form against my name to be paid via my income taxes '' while they are still trying to collect and knowingly and willingly monthly reporting to XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX credit reporting agencies trying to collect this debt while the credit bureaus XXXX, XXXX and XXXX are knowingly and recklessly causing economic, physical and mental harm by dragging down my name and XXXX score for over 40 months 1200 days. It is illegal and fraudulent for any company to knowingly and willingly tell the IRS that they took a financial loss and cancelled a debt to reduce their income tax liability then turn around and still try to " double dip '' on the consumer by intentionally and falsely seeking to collect/benefit twice on same such debt. They issued a XXXX for the consumer to pay, reduce their tax liability by said amount, yet they are knowingly and willingly reporting and trying to collect this same amount every month as recently as XX/XX/XXXX despite me disputing and writing all parties several times a year. This is illegal and egregious, malicious behavior that has caused reprehensible and irreversible and substantial harm to my credit, XXXX, name and finances. I attempt several times a year to resolve this issue with Discover Bank, XXXX, XXXX and XXXX to no avail including most recently in XXXX and XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX and XXXX. Discover, XXXX, XXXX and XXXX all respond with dispute resolved consumer disagrees ; without actually investigating ; further causing me harm day by day. I even recently in XX/XX/XXXX wrote XXXX, XXXX and XXXX using the CFPB platform and again uploaded the IRS proof and again they responded with a reckless response and closed out the complaint. Discover is intentionally and purposefully still reporting monthly to the 3 credit bureaus against my name and XXXX causing me further harm day by day ; while fully knowing that they told the IRS that they took a loss and this debt was cancelled. This is illegal and purposeful. The Credit bureaus are also recklessly and willfully complicit by refusing to investigate, look at the paperwork provided and IRS records of company canceled the debt and Failed to investigate fraudulent, outdated errors reporting on my credit report as required by FCRA and CFPB consumer laws Discover Bank XXXX Furthermore such collections are against Federal and the State laws of California and you have violated my rights. IRS proof attached.

Issue: Managing an account
Subissue: Problem accessing account
Consumer Complaint: I opened an online account with Discover Bank on approximately XX/XX/XXXX. The promotion I signed up for included a bonus of {$150.00} for an account deposit of {$15000.00}. I made the deposit for that amount. Three days after I opened the account, Discover restricted my access to the account stating, suspected fraud. I contacted them immediately and they told me they could not disclose any information. A few days later, I tried again with the same results. They told me I would receive a letter of explanation, but the letter told me nothing. They told me that my money would be returned in 60 days, however, they said that the bonus and interest would most likely not be paid to me. I would like my deposit returned immediately, along with my bonus and interest.

Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement
Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement
Consumer Complaint: I was scammed out of {$4400.00} in fraudulent charges in XXXXXXXX XXXX. I was offered a job that required that I purchase a laptop, iphone, accessories and send them to an engieer to have software installed. The representative of XXXX, XXXX XXXX, gave me a XXXX routing number number and account number for a ACH deposits of {$3400.00} and {$980.00}. These would bring my Discover Card balance to {$0.00} and I could purchase the laptop and iphone with my Discover Card. I did this as he directed. Once I did this, he stopped payment on the ACH deposits, left me with a {$4400.00} bill on my Discover Card and no job. Discover Card will not write off this {$4400.00} as fraudulent charges because I authorized the purchases. I have argued with Discover Card that I was scammed into fraudulent purchases. The definition of a scam is " a dishonest fraudulent scheme that attempts to take money or something of value from people ''. Discover Card refuses to listen and insists there is a diffence between a scam and a fraud and I was scammed. I argue these are fraudulent charges as a result of a scam. I am making the monthly payment but it is draining my savings. They are negatively effecting my XXXX score as my balance is above my approved credit limit. I'm a XXXX year old woman trying to survive on Social Security and Discover Card is flexing their muscle of Corporate Greed and will not listen to any rationale. Help me please get this issue resolved. I have no other options.

Subissue:
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I opened a Discover card offering no interest for 18 months on balance transfers. I initiated a balance transfer from XXXX XXXX of {$3500.00} to the new Discover card in XX/XX/XXXX and it took effect on my Discover card ending in XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX. I looked at my accounts XXXX yr. later to see that the transfer of funds was not done and taken off my XXXX XXXX XXXX ending in XXXX. I have been paying both cards for the balance since the transfer. I have been calling both companies with no advancement in the situation. XXXX XXXX did suspend the amount temporarily and states they never received the payoff from Discover. Discover has not provided the payment transmission form proving they paid XXXX XXXX and is stalling to send information. Apparently, Discover card is giving me a run around because we are not getting anywhere as it is over 6months of contacting Discover company. Please step in to help get this corrected.

Consumer Complaint: Discover wanted me to go through a " Verification process '' and sent me an IRS form to fill out. They gave me 2 ways by which I could verify my details : 1 ) I could provide Discover with information of the taxes I filed last year ( I did not file any taxes LAST YEAR because I was in XXXX and HAD NEVER BEEN TO THE US!! I entered the country a month ago. ) 2 ) They gave me an option to provide them a notarized copy of AT LEAST 3 MONTHS of my bank statements. ( I could not do that as I was NOT EVEN IN THE US FOR 3 MONTHS. My bank account is 1 MONTH OLD. ) Now they will be closing my card account because they do not have any alternative ways to verify my details. And them closing my account will likely affect my credit score which is very unfair.
