Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer
Subissue: Received bad information about your loan
Consumer Complaint: My daughter and I have had nothing but trouble with Discover Private Student Loans. First, when I complained about them charging me interest rates for a variable account at over 14 %, I called and said I only have fixed-rate loans. They said I didn't and perhaps my daughter agreed to one. She did not. I asked for proof. They said I needed a lawyer to write a letter. I got a lawyer to write a letter. They responded with a threatening letter and said that if I wanted information I would have to pay {$36.00}. I paid the money and they sent one page with everything cross out in black and zero information. I asked the lawyer to write a second letter saying that I would need access to the audio account in which I agreed to a variable loan. They refused and threatened me again. In addition to this, Discover entered into a long list of predatory practices. They intimidated and gave false information and and offered zero payment plans. One call told me that we were not eligible for a .5 % discount for auto withdrawal while another call to an agent in a different city commented that they could not understand why I was told that. The worst were the people in the XXXX XXXX office who I tended to get when I called. One time they " accidentallty '' applied my payment to the wrong loan which would have had us in a charge out. My daughter is very smart and she talked to a person who told me that if she didn't pay her loan for XXXX days, then she could get a loan amount of about {$500.00} per month instead of {$850.00}. She told me she had it handled and I was contacted when it was about to charge off. The XXXX XXXX XXXX office was very predatory. I would call for a simple thing, like to change the dates of my direct payment to match with paydays. They would tell me to call back at a specific time the next day. They insisted that they couldn't tell me any information as I am the cosigner. There were so many lies and so many times that I got a different story from a different agent. Once when I was told, " I don't know who would have told you that, '', they suggested a name. I called that office so often that I knew that guy was out on paternity leave. I have pages of notes. This company is horrible. They are predatory and can not be trusted. I am currently in the process of filing for bankruptcy, largely due to being unable to support myself due to this loan. My daughter does not have any credit card debt, but she is also prepared to file bankruptcy if needed. We were both traumatized by these people. They had her in tears and told her things that were different than they told me. Finally, I did not allow any calls to them without us both on the line and they commented that they really needed to talk to use separately.

Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement
Subissue: Card was charged for something you did not purchase with the card
Consumer Complaint: The dispute is between Myself ( XXXX XXXX ) and Discover Financial Services ( Discover Credit Card ) I am charged about {$2700.00} for authorized charges. XXXX XXXX has been authorized to charge my credit card just one time. Discover Credit Card was alerted and actually put a stop on the charges on XXXX XXXX 2023. XXXX XXXX somehow did get through and continue to charge my Discover Credit Card until XXXX 2023. When I called initially Discover told me that I did not need to close the Account #, since the put a stop on these charges. Later found out that all these charges went thru. Opened many disputes with Discover, and they keep denying to reimburse. As you will see from the documentation that Discover has provided to me as base to deny my disputes, they are flawed. 1. There is no contract or agreement that I have signed with XXXX for any service. ( they provided a blank contract, that means absolutely nothing ) 2. XXXX XXXX ( the business XXXX is trying to charge ) is not my business, nor I have any affiliation with them. - As you will see from the backup, I provided on my documents I have asked XXXX not to charge my account. I also have notified Discover Financial on XX/XX/2023, to block any transaction from this vendor. Since I am asking Discover to block any transaction from this vendor ( XXXX ), any transaction from this day and forward becomes Unauthorized Transaction. Discover advertises its business that no customer will be held liable for Unathorized Transactions. I am sure how can you mark an unauthorized transaction any better that customer notifying Discover that transactions from this Vendor ( XXXX ) are not authorized by me ( card holder ) and should not be allowed to get thru. -- As I explained before, XXXX was authorized to charge my credit card for one time charge. ( The first transaction from XXXX is not part of this dispute, This is stated also in an email I sent to XXXX and provided as proof to Discover as well. -- An XX/XX/XXXX, I called discover and asked them to block any transaction from this vendor... Discover let all these Unathorized transaction to him my account... I also asked them ( Customer Rep ) if I should close the account, so no more Unathorized transaction can be posted. The response was that there is nothing to worry about since Discover has blocked vendor ( XXXX ) to charge my account in the future ... After that day there were three transactions posted which are : What, I am asking is : -- Discover needs to reimburse my account for all the transactions that hit my account from vendor ( XXXX ) from the day I notified them and forward. -- Discover should guard my account as advertised. They should not charge customers for transactions that clearly are notified as XXXX. XXXX XXXX is unable to show/ provide to Discover any proof that I have signed any contract with them ( as you see in the attachment the contract provided has no signature ), therefore is no proof that I have entered in any agreement with them. -- If Discover employees ( customer reps ) have no knowledge how to stop Unathorized payments, it should not be customers fault ( myself in this case ) to pay for their mistakes.

Consumer Complaint: I received notice from my local city court that I am being sued by the company for a debt that I have previously already notified the company was created under false pretenses from identity theft. The company also has also continued to report this derogatory information on my consumer credit report after I submitted notice to them from FTC on XX/XX/year> in writing that I was a victim of identity theft. I also have notified and flagged all 3 credit reporting agencies that I was a victim of identity theft.

Consumer Complaint: I am writing to file a formal complaint against Discover Bank Financial regarding their unauthorized sharing of my nonpublic personal information with non-affiliated third parties and consumer reporting agencies. I have taken appropriate steps to exercise my rights under 15 USC 6802 of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act ( GLBA ) to opt out of such information sharing and I believe my privacy rights have been violated. On XX/XX/XXXX, I notified XXXX XXXX XXXX that I am opting out of all authorizations, whether written, unwritten, verbal, or nonverbal, for the sharing of my nonpublic personal information with non-affiliated third parties, including consumer reporting agencies, for any purpose other than those necessary to provide me with financial products or services. I provided this opt-out notice in accordance with the legal requirements outlined in 15 USC 6802 , and I have retained documentation of my communication with the institution. Despite my explicit opt-out request and my clear assertion of my rights under the GLBA, I have a reason to believe Discover Bank Financial has continued to furnish my nonpublic personal information to non-affiliated third parties and consumer reporting agencies without my consent. This unauthorized sharing of my personal information constitutes a serious violation of my privacy rights and a breach of federal law. I am deeply concerned about the potential consequences of this unauthorized sharing including the potential for identity theft, fraud, or other financial harm. I kindly request that the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau investigate this matter thoroughly and take appropriate action to ensure that Discover Bank Financial complies with all federal regulations and XXXX, including the GLBA, to protect the privacy and information security of consumers like me. Additionally, I would appreciate regular updates on the progress of this investigation and any actions taken to address the violations committed by Discover Bank Financial. Please feel free to contact me at XXXX or XXXX if you require any further information or documentation to proceed with the investigation. I am committed to cooperating fully with your office to resolve this matter and to protect my privacy rights.

Consumer Complaint: I have tried to solve this issue with Discover bank directly, but they have not responded to any of my requests, I had no choice but took this matter to small claims court and they didn't respond either. Back in XXXX my personal bank account was jeopardized but by the time I realized what had happened it was too late Discover posted 1 time 30 day late on my credit report. I have always been on time with my payments. I am very responsible person, I take my finances and credit seriously, I was asking if Discover would honor my request and as a curtesy remove the 30 day late from my credit report.

Consumer Complaint: In XXXX of XXXX my mom and I received notification that a verification form from Discover had to be completed or my account would be closed. My mom and I got the form completed and notarized and my mom sent her bank statements. We then got a letter in XXXX stating the verification form was not completed correctly and we had to redo it. I came home from school and my mom and I get the verification form completed for a second time and she resent it with the bank statements on XX/XX/XXXX. We heard nothing from Discover but on this week I went to check something on the card and saw that there was XXXX available so when I asked in a chat I was told that the account was closed because they did not receive the requested information but my mom did send over the paperwork. Now my account is closed and it's going to hurt my credit. I have other friends who have the same card and they didn't have to go through this process so why was I selected to do this? My mom pays the bills and there has never been any missed payments. I do not want the card anymore however I do not want my credit negatively affected by it either because their uploading process is inefficient and horrible.

Consumer Complaint: I was charged {$100.00} for a fraudulent item. Ive tried to dispute it several times with Discover as well as worked it out with the original merchant. On a separate matter I was charged {$14.00} at a restaurant but didnt receiver the quality of food advertised. The merchant told me to dispute with my credit card because they couldnt refund me. On both occasions the terms in Discover said the consumer is not responsible for fraudulent transactions or for transactions that were not the qualify agreed upon. Discover is now trying to change these terms even though they are still listed on their website and have not been changed. Consumers have also not been notified of any changes. This isnt the first time something like this has happened. Its a frequent occurrence with Discover.
