Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement
Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement
Consumer Complaint: I I took advantage of an XXXX promotion and made a credit card transfer on my Discover card : DISCOVER IT CARD ENDING IN XXXX CARDMEMBER SINCE XXXX and setup automatic payment. I never used the credit card since the transfer, to my surprise, statements show : XX/XX/XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX {$59.00} XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXXXXXX XXXX {$59.00} XXXX XXXX and monthly fees for using the credit card. I tried contacting XXXX over the phone without success, then chat online with an agent that couldn't find where and when I made these transactions. He finally advised me to dispute the charges with Discover card, what I did. Then Discover sent me an email stating that : We've investigated your disputed transaction and have considered all documentation available to us. We were unable to settle the matter in your favor and now consider the charge to be valid. This means we've closed our investigation, we will reverse the temporary credit on your account, and we'll apply the charge to your statement. Case Number : XXXX Merchant Name : XXXX XXXX XXXX Dispute Amount : {$59.00} We are required to report your account to the Consumer Reporting Agencies as a disputed account until you advise us to remove the dispute status. I do not agree on the charges that I did not made and that can't be verified by the merchant.

Issue: Problem when making payments
Subissue: Problem during payment process
Consumer Complaint: Previously, I had made payments online with Discover. My payment history demonstrates this. Two months ago, I went to make a payment and the system asked me to re-enroll my account. I did, and was still unable to make a payment. Unfortunately, I was out of the country and did not have access to a phone, simply internet. The payment went past due. I sent a check, they apparently also didn't receive it. Now my account is past due 60 days on my credit, I went to go make a payment this morning online and was unable to do so. They asked to re-enroll my account, so I submitted my banking information again AND it would still not allow me to make an online payment. I had to call ( thankfully I had cellular availability ). I was advised by XXXX in Ohio on XX/XX/2022 ( she would not provide any identifier to me ) that their online system has been having trouble with payments. We proceeded to do a payment online. However, she would not work with me on the inaccurate information that was now reporting on my credit bureau. Had there not been any online problem with their payment system, I would not have been late. It is that simple. It is also telling that I didn't need to re-enroll or provide any payment information to the agent on the phone- discover already had it ; due to their error, I have been unable to make payments.

Issue: Written notification about debt
Subissue: Didn't receive notice of right to dispute
Consumer Complaint: Discover Bank Bank hired XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX to collect on a debt allegedly owed by a Mississippi resident. XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX became an agent and third party vendor of Discover Bank at that time. XXXX XXXX XXXX is a Kentucky-based law firm with no physical office in Mississippi. XXXX XXXX XXXX issued form letters, which were not signed by an attorney and/or anyone in the Firm. This practice likely results from no attorney review and/or oversight prior to the form correspondence being sent. This suspicion is supported by the fact that numbers and/or amount owed and/or settlement offers varied up and down depending upon them being sent via form correspondence or later in the case by email from an actual attorney. XXXX XXXX XXXX failed to issue the required validation notice. XXXX XXXX XXXX filed a one-page form Complaint, which was deficient as it failed to incorporate necessary attachments. When the deficiency was pointed out, XXXX XXXX XXXX continued to push for a default judgment instead of amending and correcting the Complaint. At hearing, XXXX XXXX XXXX hired local counsel, who stated to the Court he did not have settlement authority. Upon information and belief, XXXX XXXX XXXX does not ever attend hearings- they practice in Mississippi via remote representation using local attorneys who are not given settlement authority. When XXXX XXXX XXXX 's failure to send the required validation notice was raised, XXXX XXXX XXXX did not provide a copy of the notice but continued using the Court system to try to obtain default and/or summary judgment - all while the original Complaint remains deficient and never amended. This action supports the Firm 's failure to have timely sent the letter ( otherwise, why not simply provide a copy? ). XXXX XXXX XXXX 's use of form letters, form pleadings, and bullying tactics to obtain default and/or summary judgment through remote representation is tantamount to abuse of process. XXXX XXXX XXXX 's actions and/or inactions since being hired by Discover Bank are collectively illegal collection practices geared towards obtaining the highest number of default judgments with the highest balance possible but with the least amount of work per case. XXXX XXXX XXXX 's actions and/or inactions since being hired by Discover Bank are unfair, deceptive, and abusive. XXXX XXXX XXXX 's actions and/or inactions since being hired by Discover Bank are designed to confuse the least sophisticated consumer, including many consumers who are unable to hire counsel to represent them. It is probable that the form correspondence and pleadings being used by XXXX XXXX XXXX are being used across Mississippi and Kentucky against unbanked consumers who ( i ) can not afford representation, ( ii ) would not realize what the validation requirement is, ( iii ) and/or recognize a deficient Complaint. Discover Bank is responsible for XXXX XXXX XXXX 's actions and/or inactions as XXXX & XXXX XXXX Discover Bank 's agent and third-party vendor.

Issue: Managing an account
Subissue: Funds not handled or disbursed as instructed
Consumer Complaint: My wife, XXXX, set up a new bank account with XXXX XXXX on XXXX XXXX 2022 and wished to fund it. I linked this Discover account to it to fund it, and then authorized several {$2000.00} transactions to fund it. However, I or my wife never authorized a {$10000.00} transfer to the XXXX account. Shortly thereafter, on XX/XX/2022 a transfer for {$10000.00} was initiated from somewhere with my wife 's name, with the directions that it was to come from the Discover accounting ending in XXXX. I thought it might have been XXXX, so I looked at that account to see if any {$10000.00} transfers had been initiated with them. None had been, ever. Not just for XXXX XXXX -- there has never been a {$10000.00} transfer either requested or received. To confirm that there hadn't been a problem with their system, I requested a trace number from you and provided it to them. After checking their system, they confirmed that they had no record of that trace number ( XXXX ). I also confirmed with the other banks where my wife has an account that they had no record of a {$10000.00} transfer or that trace number, and they confirmed that they had no record of it. In short, Discover transferred money to a third party without my consent, and has no meaningful record of who they transferred it to.

Issue: Getting a credit card
Subissue: Sent card you never applied for
Consumer Complaint: I requested information from Discover regarding how much of a line of credit I would qualify for with 0 % APR for 15 months, but was unsatisfied with their answer and so never completed an application for a card nor accepted any terms and conditions. I was then mailed a card anyway, with a term sheet that said " You accept this Agreement if you do not cancel your Account within 30 days after you received a Card. '' This is predatory and takes advantage of those who may not read their tiny-print terms or have time to cancel a credit card they didn't even want.

Issue: Fees or interest
Subissue: Charged too much interest
Consumer Complaint: I do not have records in front of me. They are contained in emails sent by Discover. I used this card quite a bit at first, and decided to create an online account so I could see why my balance increased suddenly by a few XXXX dollars. I found XXXX fraudulent charges-1 with XXXX XXXX Glasses, and another charge for a optometrist that did not happen. I watched my account change before my eyes... However my balance was still extraordinarily high. I closed the account and Discover said they did not see this at all. I changed my payment to auto-pay for {$100.00} a month until I saw my balance was in the {$400.00} range. I decided to drop my payment to {$50.00} per month, and saw that last month, instead of reducing my balance, instead it increased to the {$500.00} range. Before finding this out, I tried to re-open my account since I now have a new raise and a job with the city. Discover rejected my application and added extra interest... to me, it seemed like a COERCIVE ATTEMPT TO PERSUADE ME TO PAY THE CARD OFF AT ONCE ... INTIMIDATION. I have had persistent problems with Account Execs who do not have the skillset vocabulary to know the difference between earning interest vs. being charged interest. I could not get them to give me the actual amounts either.
