Consumer Complaint: My bank, XXXX, sent back several credit card payments in the XXXX of XX/XX/2023. I had money in my bank account to cover the, but XXXX kept reporting and charging me overdraft fees and sending payments back when there were deposits processing that would of meant my balance was more than high enough to cover the out going ACHs. I tried to have Discover remove the 30 day late from my credit report and they told me no. I submitted disputes through my credit reports, and they were also sent back with no resolution. I've had my Discover card for over XXXX years and have never missed or been late on a payment.

Consumer Complaint: I am a victim of fraud and mail theft. Discover alleged I have an outstanding charged off account that was opened in XX/XX/XXXX. They referred this account to XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX. which is a law firm that specializes in debt collection. This law firm filed suit and a deputy from my local sheriff 's department delivered a Writ of Execution to my home in XX/XX/XXXX. XX/XX/XXXX is the first I have heard of this charged off account opened by a fraudster in XX/XX/XXXX. I have an active account with Discover in good standing that I opened in XXXX. I have no knowledge of any account with Discover opened XX/XX/XXXX. I promptly contacted Discover by phone and after being passed around to several representatives I was directed to their Customer Protection Security Department XXXX. The representative that assisted me in that department deemed the account from XX/XX/XXXX as fraud and updated my file ( screenshot to be attached ) to reflect that I have been a Discover customer since XXXX and not XXXX.

Subissue: Unexpected increase in interest rate
Consumer Complaint: I had a Discover Card in my name for XXXX years, did not miss any payments. I paid either the minimum or just over it, for years. The company raised my interest rates, and then the amount owed each month, which I could not pay on a fixed income. I tried to have them reduce the amount owed each month back to the original payments, they quadrupled the amount, and won't stop calling me day and night. It is stressing my XXXX XXXX XXXX mother out completely, because they wont stop calling. I have talked to Discover reps several times, and they keep increasing the amount instead of reducing it. Please have them stop harassing me and my XXXX XXXX XXXX mother at our home. Thank you.

Consumer Complaint: In XXXX, Discover Bank requested some additional personal information. I informed them I would be mailing it within 24 hour which I did. They claim they did not receive the information and instead of informing me they did not receive it, which I would gladly email or fax, they closed my account and reported it to the credit bureau without ever contacting me first. I spoke to them and they simply stated " sorry, notining we can do now ''. this is a very unscrupulous practice since I should have been notified they did not receive the information before taking such action against a customer.

Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement
Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2023 we received a telephone call from a person identifying himself as being from Georgia Pardon and Parole stating our son was scheduled to be released from prison but he needed an electronic monitor which there was not time for them to provide. He requested we send this money so they could proceed with his release. He requested {$1500.00} which I sent via XXXX off my Discover card. He then said his supervisor would send the request for me to pay. When the request came through, it was for {$1600.00}, and I did not catch the discrepancy before approving the payment. When this transaction went through, I was told they could not just make an adjustment, I would have to send the payment again for the correct amount and they would refund the incorrect amount. His supervisor again sent a request to XXXX for the correct amount and I authorized the payment. I now have two charges on my Discover card, {$1600.00} and {$1500.00}, which includes a transfer fee. The caller then stated this payment did not go through and requested I purchase a XXXX XXXX reload card to send the money. I was told this amount would also be credited back to my account. I sent my wife to XXXX and she had to purchase three XXXX XXXX cards at {$500.00} each. I have disputed these charges with XXXX and Discover. I learned this was a scam the same day and disputed the charges with XXXX and Discover. I canceled my Discover card and requested a replacement the same evening. I just received the decision from Discover that I will be responsible for these charges because I authorized the charges even though Discover acknowledges this is a scam. This is a scam that is being used to defraud families of incarcerated individuals. I am XXXX XXXX XXXX and XXXX. This constitutes elder abuse and I should be refunded my money. I have not received any merchandise. I have filed a police report that can be provided if needed and have included an attachment describing this scam. Discover should reverse these charges and remove them from my account.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I made a purchase of {$3600.00} to XXXX XXXX for XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX equipment that were described by the merchant as " Used & Working ''. On XX/XX/XXXX I received the pallets with the merchandise and inspected them to find that the condition was not used & working. The merchandise was missing crucial components required to properly function and what I received was salvage grade ( junk ) merchandise. In the subsequent days I called the merchant to try to find some recourse but received no response. In response on XX/XX/XXXX I called Discover to file a dispute as the merchandise I received was significantly not as described. Initially Discover issued a credit back to my account and I thought the matter was settled. However, as of XX/XX/XXXX, Discover reversed this credit and I have been scammed out of my money and have been left with a bunch of junk. Because Discover was unhelpful, I filed a complaint with the CFPB shortly after which you can find filed as complaint XXXX. Initially this complaint filing was met with cooperation from Discover, they reversed the charge again, however as of the beginning of XX/XX/XXXX the amount was reposted to my account and I expected to receive a letter as I was told that I would have the ability to provide supporting documents including my attempts to call XXXX XXXX ( the merchant ) following the delivery of the not as described goods, but no such letter was sent to me. To add to the matter, Discover has now decided to close my account completely. I have paid every month on time and in full prior to this negative experience with the XXXX XXXX order. This is the first time that I've disputed any charge with Discover and they have been wholly unhelpful despite touting their " {$0.00} Fraud Liability Guarantee means that you're never responsible for unauthorized purchases on your Discover Card account. '' So my entire line of credit with Discover has been shut down because I asked for their help in handling a fraudulent transaction where I have been sent goods that have been wholly misrepresented, a situation which certainly warrants fraud protection from the credit company with which the goods were purchased. This action is in direct violation of the federal Equal Credit Opportunity Act, which " prohibits creditors from discriminating against credit applicants on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, marital status, age ( provided that the applicant has the capacity to enter into a binding contract ) ; because all or part of the applicant 's income derives from any public assistance program ; or because the applicant has in good faith exercised any right under the Consumer Credit Protection Act.

Consumer Complaint: On XXXX I received a text and email stating I must provide my IRS information for verification purposes to Discover Card Services. My Discover account is an individual account non joint with no other account holders. I was told that my account would be closed if I did not provide my IRS file information which includes my spouse 's information. He is not on the Discover account which would make it illegal to request an individuals information that has no relationship to Discover. We file joint tax returns. My Discover account is not and has not ever been delinquent or a joint account. At the time of application before approval I assumed that they would verify information before extending credit. This illegal demand would be harmful to my credit profile if they closed my account as they state they will be doing if I do not provide my IRS information, I have no joint credit accounts with my spouse and depend on my credit profile. Discover not be able to report any negative data to any credit reporting agency if the account holder is not delinquent. When I contacted Discover over the phone they insisted it was to confirm my identity not to have access to my and my husbands financial data. They have a right to verify mine but do not have a legal ight to verify any persons that did not request credit from Discover. In addition they are utilizing a 3rd party, XXXX XXXX to submit the 4506-T form to the IRS. XXXX has had several Data breaches in the last three years that have affected me personally. A third party that can not provide an assurance of privacy is not a way to verify my information or millions of other Discover card holders. Something needs to be done to stop this illegal practice. I have not received a response to my written or verbal request.
