Issue: False statements or representation
Subissue: Attempted to collect wrong amount
Consumer Complaint: I am homeless and XXXX. With the help of an advocate at the homeless agency where I reside, I contacted Convergent Outsourcing, which is handling the debt for my XXXX account. On XX/XX/XXXX, XXXX my advocate and I talked with a Convergent representative who offered to settle the debt for {$470.00}. The original debt was {$1500.00}. The representative agreed to email a new statement with the agreed upon settlement figure to my advocate. That statement never arrived and we called again on XX/XX/2022. On the XX/XX/XXXX call, we were informed that the company 's representative we had spoken with had committed an error and that the company would not honor the agreement they had made with us. The person we spoke with on XX/XX/XXXX verified that the offer had been made. I want to settle this debt, but only for the amount we agreed upon. Can you help?

Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed
Subissue: Debt was result of identity theft
Consumer Complaint: I was recently the victim of identity theft following the XXXX data breach and someone obtained my social security number. I first noticed suspicious activities on my credit in XX/XX/2022 as they attempted to obtained a number of credit cards, loans and tax returns using my social security number. All of the companies which they sent a request to other companies including XXXX, XXXX, XXXX XXXX, and XXXX denied the credit after a brief inquiry however XXXX XXXX approved them for multiple accounts despite an outdated address and no valid phone number. Recently XX/XX/2022 I received a notice from a debt collector claiming I owed XXXX {$1100.00}. XXXX has been unhelpful and passed us on to the debt collector Convergent Outsourcing who also couldn't help us. We have submitted a fraud claim to XXXX including police reports and proof of identity fraud but have not heard back. They first made a lot of soft inquiries on my credit report around the same time as the new credit card attempts and continued checking soft inquiries even after I froze my credit and set the identity theft alert on all three credit bureaus. Then they put an outstanding balance on my credit report which significantly hurt my credit score. They failed to take proper security measures to stop fraudulent accounts from being created when every other company did not fall for it. Additionally they have been unresponsive and actively hurting my credit score.

Consumer Complaint: they keep calling me. They will NOT tell me WHY they are calling, nor will they even tell me what their company does. They insist they can not tell me what they do or why they are calling me unless I give them personal information. I have made it very clear I'm not going to give them any personal information without knowing what they do or why they are calling me. I have told them to stop calling because they will not tell me why they are calling and I will not give them personal information without knowing why they are calling me. They continue to call demanding personal information from me. the only thing they will tell me is the name of the company " Conversion Outsourcing '' and won't even say they are a debt collection agency. I googled them and found out they collect debts. I don't have any debt that is in collections, so don't know why they would be contacting me demanding personal information. I want them to stop calling or at least tell me WHY they are calling so I can address, possibly they have the wrong person? but they won't tell me so in that case i've asked them over and over to stop contacting me, but they keep calling.

Consumer Complaint: I was a customer of XXXX also known as XXXX in 2016, I paid my bill and kept the bill current. There was a dramatic switch in the cost of their services so I decided to leave the company, close my account and no longer receive their services. The process was I should disconnect the equipment, go to the local office and drop equipment off. I did exactly that, went to the XXXX XXXX office, dropped off the equipment and the account was closed. During that time, I was part of one of the biggest lawsuits with XXXX. It was a class action lawsuit concerning previous employment there. Brand v XXXX where we sued for discrimination, labor law infractions and unsafe work practices. We won the law suit, collected our checks and the case was closed. Soon thereafter there's information being reported that I did not return equipment. I've called let them know the receipt numbers and they said ok its taken care of. Soon thereafter this is being reported to the credit bureau that I owe {$610.00}. Every time I report it, they reply that this is the amount owed. There are no receipts on their side, no history of anything accept a bill for {$610.00}.
