Issue: Written notification about debt

Subissue: Didn't receive enough information to verify debt

Consumer Complaint: Good evening, Back in late XXXX, I discovered that XXXX XXXX reported my account as delinquent, despite receiving email communications from them that said I had {$0.00} credit balance into XXXX ( XXXX was when the account was reported delinquent ) and having enrolled in autopay for the entire time I had an active account. I received no other indication from XXXX that there was an outstanding balance on my account. Given these reasons, I question the validity of the {$93.00} debt I apparently owe due to XXXXXXXX XXXX consistent miscommunication and lack of transparency. XXXX XXXX XXXX - My XXXX XXXX account was overpaid. I received notice that I would be getting a {$12.00} refund on the account. XXXX XXXX XXXX - The last bill summary I received from XXXX. The credit balance was reported as {$0.00}. XXXX XXXXXXXX payment - My account was enrolled in autopay for its entire duration. On XX/XX/XXXX I reached out to XXXX customer support on their XXXX XXXX XXXX for more clarity on where the debt originated, but they were unable to help me authenticate or get access to my account ( I was sent a link to authenticate this account, but I received a message that said " Looks like the information you entered doesn't match with our records '' ). I have run into similar problems when trying to access the account to view my billing/payment history after services ended. The representative then directed me to call XXXX XXXX Recovery department, and I contacted them on Monday XX/XX/XXXX where I was only provided the number of Convergent Outsourcing, the collections company my debt was sent to. After unsuccessfully trying to call Convergent with the number I was provided, I sent them a debt verification request on XX/XX/XXXX through their website. As of today XX/XX/XXXX, I still have not received a response to my debt verification request from them. Additionally, their website is now inaccessible/reroutes to XXXX automatically, and my attempts to reach out via phone are unsuccessful, so follow up has not been possible. Around this time I had sent disputes to XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX ( each result confirmed the {$93.00} charged to me ). On XX/XX/XXXX I contacted XXXX XXXX again, and was able to connect with a representative who advised me to reach out to XXXX with the reference number XXXX in the subject line. As of XX/XX/XXXX I still have not received a reply. I'm disappointed that XXXX 's lapse in communication and transparency ( it has been incredibly difficult accessing the XXXX account to view my charges to track, where even customer service agents have struggled to find it as well ; emails from XXXX confirming my account was paid in full, but still having the alleged debt sent to collections ) has been incredibly damaging to my credit. I am also frustrated by how difficult it has been to get into contact with the collections agency ( Convergent and/or XXXX - I am unclear of which one the debt is under ). Please advise/assist on how to proceed.

On several occasions i reported the problems with their service and internet and nothing was ever resolved. XXXX has charged me for services that i was unable to use because of a device that was returned and their failure to exchange it for another one, even though i retuned the device within the XXXX day time period. I was denied device payment options upon the return of the other device. Issue: Problem with a company's investigation into an existing problem

Subissue: Their investigation did not fix an error on your report

Consumer Complaint: Dear Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to bring to your attention a serious matter concerning the unlawful furnishing of a fraudulent collection account on my XXXX credit report by Convergent Outsourcing. This unjust reporting has persisted for approximately XXXX years, and I believe it is crucial to address this issue promptly. The account in question is as follows : Account Number : XXXX Date Opened : XX/XX/2019 I am formally requesting that the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau investigates this matter and takes appropriate action against Convergent Outsourcing for their unlawful and fraudulent practices. Several key issues highlight the severity of this situation : Lack of Licensure in the State of Florida : Convergent Outsourcing is not licensed to collect debts or furnish information to credit bureaus in the state of Florida. This violates Florida state laws and regulations governing debt collection agencies. Violation of the XXXX XXXX : Convergent Outsourcing 's operations are in direct contravention of the XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX ( XXXX ). This system clearly defines the states in which collection companies are authorized to collect debts. The inclusion of Florida is conspicuously absent from their authorized states. Given these violations and the absence of appropriate licensure, it is evident that Convergent Outsourcing 's collection activities and reporting on my credit report are in direct violation of Florida state laws and the XXXX framework. In light of these circumstances, I formally request the following actions to be taken : Immediate Removal/Deletion : I request that the fraudulent account, Account Number XXXX, which has been reported to XXXX, be removed or deleted from my credit report without delay. Investigation and Enforcement : I urge the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to investigate Convergent Outsourcing 's unlawful debt collection and reporting practices in Florida and take appropriate enforcement action against them to prevent further harm to consumers. Prevent Future Violations : I request that the CFPB takes measures to ensure that Convergent Outsourcing and similar entities adhere to state and federal laws governing debt collection practices, preventing future violations. I have attached copies of relevant documents that support my claims, including proof of Convergent Outsourcing 's lack of licensure in the state of Florida and their exclusion from the XXXX framework for debt collection. I am grateful for your attention to this matter and your dedication to protecting consumers from unlawful debt collection practices. I look forward to a prompt resolution of this issue and the removal of the fraudulent account from my credit report. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you require any further information or documentation to assist in your investigation.

Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed

Subissue: Debt was paid

Consumer Complaint: I was trying 15 day free-trial home internet with XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX. I cancel the internet due to their internet not compatible with my work environment and return their equipment on XX/XX/XXXX, which is within 15 days. After a month, I received bill from XXXX for unpaid bill. I was verifying on XXXX XXXX official account, and I was told that it should clear within 1 or 2 cycles. However, XXXX kept sending me bills for 2 more cycles with additional late fee every time. I went in store and talked with the staff there on XX/XX/XXXX, he said I need to paid {$25.00} upfront and they'll refund me later time. So I paid {$25.00} and they said late fee should be waived as well. Note at this time it is still within due day of latest bill I received with 2 times of late fee. However, a debt collection letter was sent to me from Convergent Outsourcing on XX/XX/XXXX, which is before the billing due date of amount of {$39.00}. And I receive the letter at a much later date. To me this is unethical practice to send their bill to debt collector before billing due date. And they did assure me everything should clear from my account multiple times.

Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed

Subissue: Debt is not yours

Consumer Complaint: XXXX XXXX failed to cancel an erroneously opened account. I contacted the company multiple times and each time was told that they had no record of the account. I never received a bill in either paper or electronic format. I later received notice from XXXX that they would be referring my account, which I was told repeatedly didn't exist, to a collections agency. When I called XXXX, they told me that they would not send the bill to collections and would work with me to resolve the issue. I was told that I would hear back in 48 hours with resolution, but did not receive any communication. When I followed up after the 48 hours had elapsed, I was told that the bill had been sent to a collections agency. I was put in contact with the collections agency, Convergent Outsourcing, and immediately filed a dispute. I also worked with XXXX to confirm that the account was opened erroneously and was told by XXXX that they would send a notice to the collections agency retracting the balance owed. When I followed up with Convergent, they had not received this notice, so I filed another dispute. I did not hear from Convergent for over 2 weeks, and when I called to follow up on the dispute using the confirmation number I was given, they were not even able to locate my account. They were able to locate the account but it was under a different number. I was told that they were waiting on XXXX to verify my dispute. A few days later, I received a call from a different collections agency, XXXX XXXX XXXX ( XXXX ), attempting to collect the debt. They told me that they were formerly known as Convergent. I never received any notification from Convergent that they would be changing their name and was provided very little evidence that this was a legitimate company. Unfortunately, I was unable to speak with them at that time and was only able to report to the representative that I had already filed a dispute. The following day, I called the number on the Convergent collections notices I had received and multiple times was told by a machine that no representatives were available and given a different number to call, each of which yielded the same response. When I was finally able to speak to an agent, I was told that the second account number I was given as also incorrect. I was told that the dispute had only been started the day prior, despite me filing the original dispute a month earlier ( dispute filed XXXX, this phone call was on XXXX XXXX ). After I disputed this, they suddenly had my dispute. I was told that XXXX was requesting more information, but were unable to tell me what information it was that XXXX needed or how to get in contact with XXXX to find out. I spoke to a supervisor, all they were able to offer was a reduced settlement amount, but could not tell me whether just paying this to make the issue go away would affect my credit score. On the same day, I then spoke to XXXX and was initially told that there was no record of the account, then I was told that the account existed and that there was nothing in the account about the balance being reduced to {$0.00}, as I had previously been told it had and they asked me to pay the full balance. When I pushed back on this, they suddenly found the record and reported verbally to me that a credit to the account to bring the balance had actually been approved as of XXXX, but would take 30-60 days to process. They were unable to provide any written documentation of this and told me that I would receive a letter when the credit had processed. During the course of this ordeal, I made dozens of phone calls, spent hours on hold, and was repeatedly hung up on by both XXXX and Convergent/XXXX. On XXXX alone I spent over 2 hours on the phone with both companies.
