Consumer Complaint: XXXX was contracted by Jefferson Capital to collect on a debt originally owned by XXXX XXXX XXXX. XXXX & I came to a settlement amount of {$2600.00}. This was in XX/XX/2020. On XX/XX/XXXX I obtained a Cashiers check in that amount. It was then mailed to XXXX and delivered on XX/XX/XXXX and deposited on XX/XX/XXXX. It officially cleared the account on XX/XX/XXXX. The first week of XXXX, a call was made to XXXX to get an update as I had not received a receipt nor anything stating this was now settled. They claimed the check bounced and that they shredded the check. How did they shred the check? Even if a cashier check could bounce, how did they get the check back from the bank to allegedly shred it? Cashier checks are prepaid instruments, and unlike a personal check, they do not bounce. XXXX then claimed that they shredded the check. I was baffled by this because if this was sincerely true, they would have called or sent a letter. They had no hesitation in calling or sending a letter when attempting to previously collect a debt. They then told me that since the money never left my account, I should go ahead and just pay with my debit card. After arguing with them for some time and telling them that cashiers checks do NOT bounce, they said they'd investigate and give me a call back. When they called back, they told me they were still investigating. In the mean time I called my bank ( XXXX XXXX ) who told me an attempt had been made on the cashiers check as an ACH debit which resulted in it being declined. My bank then told me the check cleared the account on XX/XX/XXXX and provided me with a written letter and proof. Yet XXXX denies this despite the check being clearly stamped " XXXX for deposit only '' ( which XXXX provided me with a company ). To this date, I have not heard from XXXX or Jefferson.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX a collection account, with a balance of {$4300.00}, was reported to the credit bureaus by Jefferson Capital Systems. The agency states that the account was opened on XXXX XX/XX/XXXX. Prior to XXXX of this year this company was not listed on my credit report and the XXXX date greatly diminished my rights to dispute this debt. I disputed the debt through XXXX on XXXX XXXX and the bureau found that the debt does not go against FCRA although I have never received any documentation and the company is reporting the account as being opened on XXXX XX/XX/XXXX. Since XXXX XXXX I have received 135 robo-calls from this company, no voicemail was ever left and if you call the number back it's a recording. I have never consented to robo-calls and they have been non-stop. I have attached a copy of my credit report from XX/XX/XXXX showing that the account was not present previously as well as screenshots as well as screenshots of the call.

Issue: Written notification about debt
Subissue: Notification didn't disclose it was an attempt to collect a debt
Consumer Complaint: I noticed that Jefferson Capital LLC aappeared on all three credit reports in early XXXX. The amount listed is {$1900.00} and the original creditor listed is XXXX XXXX. The date Jefferson Capital opened this was XX/XX/2019. I never received one notice or one phone call from this company and they never once allowed me to verify the debt or offered to verify the debt. I called them after I saw this on my report in XXXX and they were very rude and eventually I was transferred and hung up on. Late XXXX, I received a letter for payment in the mail from this company, but there was no verification or an offer to request a verification/dispute. The wording of the letter was threatening and not clear at all. It was worded in a way to confuse you or trip you up. It threatened a lawsuit even after it said the time limit had expired for that. It offered payment options, but then said payment would restart a lawsuit. I feel as though this company practices unfair and deceptive collection practices. I had zero collection accounts on my credit until this account was underhandedly added. I do not agree I owe this and I feel like my rights under the FDCPA have been violated in a few ways. First, I was never given a verification. Second, I was never given an opportunity to dispute this account. Third, threatening with a lawsuit is not legal when you have no justification to carry that out. I have also filed complaints with XXXX and if I can't get Jefferson Capital to delete their presence off my credit report completely and cease collection activity, I will consult with a consumer attorney.

Issue: Written notification about debt
Subissue: Didn't receive enough information to verify debt
Consumer Complaint: I contacted Jefferson Capital Systems concerning a collection on my credit report about a bill from XXXX, I was told the debt was in default in XXXX of XXXX, I asked for verification of the debt in writing and the operator stated that it was already sent out. I stated I had not received it and that I needed verification and a proof of date, he stated that he already told me when the debt started and refused to give me anything in writing. I filed a dispute with XXXX that afternoon and the next morning was told the debt was verified and it began in XXXX of XXXX. I contacted XXXX and explained I had not done business with XXXX since XXXX of XXXX and that I wanted to know what verification they turned in because it would be fraudulent, I was told there was no formal verification just Jefferson stating that I owed the debt. I question how that was verification when anyone could state I owed a debt, I also explained Jefferson 's refusal to verify the debt to me. I was then advised to file a complaint CFPB and was told they would reopen the investigation and inquire about the validity of the information provided to them. Jefferson still has not verified the debt to me or in my opinion formally to XXXX only verbally stating that the dates were accurate, despite giving two different dates of XX/XX/XXXX to myself and XXXX of XXXX to XXXX there by adding two more years to the debt.
