Consumer Complaint: Jefferson Capital Systems has been harassing me for over a year to pay a debt I do not owe. I have responded by mail several times in the last year after receiving these notices. Jefferson Capital Systems has no record of me disputing this debt. They are not receiving my written notices and continue to mail me statements to pay or dispute it. The debt is {$2000.00} and was sent to this debt collector from XXXX for a cell phone service I never had. The debt collector Jefferson Capital Systems purchased the debt in XX/XX/XXXX. Since they purchase the debt they have been sending me letters by mail and calling me repeatedly multiple times a day. I called them today XX/XX/XXXX to report this debt as fraud. They told me records show this is a legitimate debt and offered me a pay for deletion amount of {$920.00} if paid by XX/XX/XXXX. I told the agent I would call XXXX to verify the legitimacy of the debt. I called XXXX and was told they could not disclose any information to me about the cell phone account since the debt for the account had been sold to the debt collector Jefferson Capital Systems along with all the records. The debt collector isn't providing me any information for me to validate this charge is legitimate. I have expressed to the debt collector and XXXX this account is fraudulent or completed without my consent. Both companies are unwilling to provide me the signatures, dates, times, or where the original order for services was placed with my consent or signature. This leads me to believe they do not have any records to confirm the debt is legitimate and not fraudulent. They continue to say it is legitimate without providing me proof. I am not willing to pay for a debt I am unable to confirm. I have had XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX for my cell phones and use to use prepaid services before that through a government assistance program. I am concerned someone placed an online order for services using my information in XXXX of XXXX. I am not able to confirm if this happened since XXXX or Jefferson Capital System can not tell me where, when, and how the services were signed up for. If the order was placed online and without my consent and someone was paying the bill, this is a fraudulent purchase. I can provide proof that I was using a government funded cell phone in the year XXXX, I have a food stamp letter when I was using the assistance programs. I can also provide proof of how long I have had my XXXX XXXX. I have never provided a signature or entered a XXXX XXXX to make a purchase using my banking card. Please help me get this removed from my credit report or at least help me in getting the debt collector to give me proof this charge is valid, when and where was it signed up for, how was my information used, so that I can file a police report and start the process of identity theft. I am not sure since it was done back in XXXX what my options are to report to authorities due to statue of limitations but I will do whatever it takes to prove this account was not created or given consent by me. I have reached out to XXXX numerous of times before they placed the account in Collection. Every debt agency they sell this account to removes it because I have explained to them that this is not my account. They have sold this debt to over 5 different debt collectors! They are refusing to move it even after I filed an Identity Theft report.
