Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement

Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement

Consumer Complaint: My Bloomingdales credit card was used for fraud. The first time I saw the charges on my statement, I disputed the charges on line, I called the Bloomingdales fraud department, and I filed a report with the credit bureaus. This was XX/XX/2023 the first time the charges appeared on my statement, the charges were made in mid XX/XX/2023. My card continued to be compromised with fraud on line purchases and I continued to call and report on line. This happened despite being issued new credit card numbers. In XX/XX/2023 I received a notice that my claim was denied and the total charges of {$3800.00} plus {$250.00} interest were added back to my credit card balance. I have record that a rep told me that the items were shipped to XXXX. I live in NJ. I want these fraud charges taken off my account. I will appeal the resolution. Please help me in anyway you can to resolve this theft. Bloomingdales credit card is a XXXX XXXX credit card.

Issue: Took or threatened to take negative or legal action

Subissue: Threatened to sue you for very old debt

Consumer Complaint: Good morning, I received a phone call from XXXX XXXX XXXX representative on XX/XX/XXXX advising she was a senior litigator with her firm and was calling on behalf of CitiXXXX XXXX for a pay day loan from XXXX under my maiden name. In XXXX, I was married and carried my married name. I was informed that unless I took the out of court settlement offer of {$410.00} I would be sued and it would cost me upwards of {$2500.00} to resolve the debt once the lawsuit was filed. The " senior litigator '' went on to inform me that they had my address and work information and would have me served if I did not agree to the settlement at this time. I did request for the information regarding the debt to be mailed to me or sent by email in order to obtain information regarding the debt since my maiden name had not been used since XXXX. I was told that this problem needed to be resolved by no later than XX/XX/XXXX. Based on being XXXX since I've been working so hard to repair my credit over the past years due to previous indiscretions and finally landed a good job, I agreed to issue payment for XX/XX/XXXX in the amount of {$410.00}. I did advise the representative that my direct deposit did not come in until later on the XXXX and payment could not be drafted until the evening or on the XXXX. She confirmed this was fine. Today ( XX/XX/XXXX ) I received a call from the same " senior litigator '' from XXXX XXXX XXXX at XXXX XXXX. advising me that the payment did not go through and if was not resolved today they would proceed with the lawsuit. I did inform her that she was violating FDCPA regulations by contacting me at XXXX XXXX. MST ( as I reside in AZ ) and the number she was calling from is XXXX. I also advised the " senior litigator '' that her collection tactics violate FDCPA regulations by threatening to sue me for the balance due. I have since put a stop payment with my bank on this payment and had previously submitted a debt validation letter on the date I received the initial call on XX/XX/XXXX. I have yet to receive any information.

Issue: Fees or interest

Subissue: Unexpected increase in interest rate

Consumer Complaint: Although the Federal government raised interest rates recently ; CitiBank has, this month, raised my interest rate 1.5 % to 31.74 %. I originally received the card from DSNB who sold to CitiBank. My interest rate has nearly gone up a point every month since last XX/XX/XXXX. I have never missed a payment on the account since I received the account in XXXX ; I always pay the minimum plus several hundred dollars more. There is no rhyme or reason for the continued increase especially since there have been no interest rate increase in the last XXXX months. In the past when i have complained to Treasury Department ( before your agency was incepted ) ; CitiBank has retaliated against me by putting negative, erroneous information about me in the credit bureau. However, Treasury sent them several letters in both XXXX and XXXX that an investigation had been launched ; I never received an outcome but the information was laboredly corrected. No matter what I do to pay off these people they continue to hamper my being rid of them by raising interest rates for no apparent reason ( my credit score is XXXX ). To keep me paying them off ; they keep raising my interest rate. I pay the minimum plus {$200.00} every month how can my balance keep increasing when I am not using the card or patronizing Macys at all. When I called today and spoke to someone named XXXX, i was told that everyones interest rate increase by at lease 1.5 % and they do not negotiate a lower rate for anyone. How can they get away with this to try to keep Macys alive when people simply are not interested in continuing to get into this kind of overbearing debt?!! Thank you.

Issue: Managing an account

Subissue: Deposits and withdrawals

Consumer Complaint: After prior TERRIBLE experiences with Citi *banking* ( not credit cards ) in the past, I attempted to give them one more try to see if they had improved their platform/customer service, and opened a Checking account with them. XXXX. On XX/XX/2023 I attempted to open a checking/savings account with Citi. Due to an error from their website, two accounts were opened. I immediately contacted Citi to let them know I only wanted one account, and to close the other account. XXXX. On XX/XX/2023 I transferred {$10000.00} USD from my XXXX XXXX account to my new Citi account, using the Citi money transfer feature. XXXX. On XX/XX/2023 I noticed I could no longer login to my account, and had received an ambiguous email from Citi stating " Your Citi account ( s ) will be closed '' 4. I immediately contacted Citi to find out what is going on. They refuse/are incapable of telling me ANYTHING regarding this matter, and had the nerve to suggest I " used a VPN '' to circumvent some kind of access controls on their side. THey were unable to substantiate or clarify this accusation, and are only able to brush me off and say " you will receive a letter in a FEW WEEKS explaining this decision '' 5. Citi is REFUSING to return my {$10000.00} - suggesting it will be done when it's convenient for them ( >30 days? ) ; _THEIR TEAM_ suggested I submit a DISPUTE with XXXX XXXX about the money that Citi is refusing to return. XXXX. I have submitted a dispute with XXXX XXXX, and they are saying due to the time frame that had passed, they can not reverse the ACH and it will now have to go through their full dispute resolution process which is >= 45 days. It is absolutely absurd and unconscionable that Citi has chosen to take, hold, and refuse to return my {$10000.00} transfer without any explanation. AFter multiple calls to Citi, I am unable to get ANY information and am constantly told just to " wait for the letter in the mail '', leaving me in the dark with where/what is happening to MY funds and when they will be returned to me. Citi has making/is making NO attempt to explain what the issue is with my account or why it was closed. This is absurd. Banks should have some responsibility to consumers to tell them what is going on with their account, and clear explanation of the accusations surrounding accounts being closed/locked/made inaccessible.

Issue: Closing your account

Subissue: Company closed your account

Consumer Complaint: CitiBank recently closed my accounts because I accidentally clicked the wrong payment account when I paid it ( they closed both accounts even though the accident was only on one of them ). This was an extra payment, so I had not been late even one time in years. I had been paying my amounts down with money left over at the end of the month. When they closed my accounts, I panicked and opened new credit card accounts knowing that the closed accounts would harm my credit. Now, they admit it was a mistake but can not restore my accounts because I opened those new accounts, which I would not have done had they not closed my accounts in the first place! Now, this is going to destroy my credit which I have been trying to rebuild after my divorce.

Issue: Closing an account

Subissue: Funds not received from closed account

Consumer Complaint: Citibank made an internal error thinking I deposited a 3rd party check, which is incorrect. They admitted it was their mistake but closed my account anyway. They simply overlooked the DBA. I am the sole signatory on all the accounts. They closed my account without notice and said it would be 45-60 days before I could get my funds ( approximately {$46000.00} ). I have tried weekly to get my funds or update. This occurred on about XX/XX/2023 and I have still not received my funds. I have SERIOUS health issues... .XXXX XXXX XXXX. I had to miss treatments because I lost my insurance while trying to collect my money. This is lXXXX XXXX. I can not even purchase my normal medicine right now. I haven't paid my rent, or my employees ... this is hideous.

Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement

Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, my XXXX XXXX XXXX daughter was playing games on my phone. During that time, XXXX sent a pop up notification to my phone regarding tickets for a comedian named XXXX XXXX. That's how this mess started. I had recently gone through the mishandled situation with the XXXX XXXX XXXX program for XXXX XXXX where I was unable to get tickets. My daughter was very disappointed that I couldn't buy tickets for XXXX XXXX. So, when this phone notification for a different person named XXXX popped up on my phone while she was using it, she clicked on the link. That link took her straight to XXXX sales site for XXXX XXXX. My daughter kept pressing next to see what tickets had become available for the event she thought was XXXX XXXX. Unfortunately, the XXXX site login info and my credit card info was saved and automatically populated due to XXXX settings and XXXX wallet settings. The XXXX site automatically chose the best available seats and let my daughter continue all the way to the end of the process to buy the {$980.00} tickets. The first I heard of this situation is when my daughter came to me after the transaction and showed me the congratulations you got tickets message on my phone. She had no idea what she had just done. She didn't understand that she had just paid money for real tickets. She absolutely did not have authorization to buy anything and didn't realize that she had. She thought I had some grown-up process I needed to do to buy the tickets she had already accidentally bought. I immediately called XXXX to fix the situation and couldn't get through. So, I emailed them of the fraudulent transaction so they could reverse the transaction right away. I got an automated unmonitored emailed response from XXXX. So, I started a chat conversation on the XXXX app. I was transferred to different departments and was told that someone would be reaching out to me to resolve the situation. I went back and forth with XXXX telling me their fraud dept. would help without action until XX/XX/XXXX. At that time I gave up on XXXX and called Best Buy Citibank to dispute the charge. On XX/XX/XXXX, Best Buy Citibank opened a billing dispute claim and credited me for the amount of the transaction. I submitted the correspondence between me and XXXX on the Best Buy Citibank website. I didn't think much of it after that because I thought the situation was resolved. However, I noticed in XXXX that the charge was added back to my account. I called Best Buy Citibank again to find out what was going on. They apologized and said the issue was not a billing dispute but rather a fraud claim. On XX/XX/XXXX, I was transferred to the fraud dept. where another claim was opened. That claim was denied on XX/XX/XXXX without explanation. On XX/XX/XXXX, I called again. They apologized and said the claim had been closed in error and opened another claim. They credited the charge back to me again. They issued a new card and closed the old card. I was asked to send the communication with XXXX documentation again, which was faxed to them. On XX/XX/XXXX, I checked my account again and realized that they had added the charge back on my account again and denied the fraud claim. They apologized again and told me it wasn't fraud, but rather a billing dispute. I told them that I was getting the runaround since I started in the billing dispute dept. They opened another billing dispute claim. On XX/XX/XXXX, the charge had still not been credited back to me yet. I spoke with a billing dispute escalations supervisor who apologized again and said he would credit the improper interest charged but that he couldn't credit the original charge until the next billing cycle on XXXX. He told me he was entering the note and that there was nothing due for the XX/XX/XXXX bill. On XX/XX/XXXX, I got a collections call from Best Buy stating that I had missed a payment. Since I shouldn't have had a balance on my account, this was very upsetting. I called Best Buy Citibank again and was transferred to an Escalations Manager who said she was entering clearer notes to finally resolve the matter once and for all. On XX/XX/XXXX, I received another collections call from Best Buy. I called them again and was told my claim had been denied again. I was transferred back to the fraud dept. Once again they told me it was not fraud and transferred me to the billing escalations manager. She told me she was not going to reopen the case. She told me that I am responsible for my child and therefore I am responsible for the charge. She told me my only option was to go back to the vendor ( XXXX ). I reminded her that I didn't have that option since the unauthorized purchase was for tickets for a show that had already past. XXXX wouldn't help me to begin with so they are certainly not going to refund the charge now. She said Best Buy Citibank could no longer assist me and that the payment for the {$980.00} charge plus interest is due. So, now, I need assistance please. It is my understanding that since this was an unauthorized charge that the Citibank zero liability policy and the XXXX zero liability policy should have resolved this matter. However, since they failed me as their customer, I need assistance enforcing the F.T.C. consumer protections please. I don't know what else to do. I appreciate your help. Thank you.
