Issue: Struggling to pay your bill
Subissue: Credit card company won't work with you while you're going through financial hardship
Consumer Complaint: Dear Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to file a formal complaint against Capital One Credit Cards regarding their refusal to accommodate my request for a financial hardship review. Despite being on public assistance and facing severe financial challenges, I have encountered significant resistance from Capital One in obtaining the necessary assistance to manage my situation. I have been a loyal customer of Capital One Credit Cards for several years and have always strived to meet my financial obligations. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, I am currently experiencing extreme financial difficulty, and my ability to make monthly minimum payments has been severely impacted. I reached out to Capital One requesting assistance in the form of a financial hardship review, which would include waiving late fees, lowering interest rate, arranging a feasible payment plan, or even settling the full balance at a reduced rate. To my dismay, I have been met with rejection on all fronts. I am deeply frustrated and disheartened by the lack of empathy and understanding demonstrated by Capital One 's representatives. While I understand that credit card companies operate within certain guidelines, I believe that there should be room for compassion and assistance in cases of genuine financial hardship, especially considering my consistent payment history prior to these difficult circumstances. I have explored various avenues to resolve my financial situation, and my request for accommodation is not made lightly. The refusal from Capital One has left me in a state of uncertainty and distress, as I am unsure how to navigate this challenging period without their cooperation. I kindly request your intervention and investigation into this matter to ensure that Capital One adheres to fair practices and provides assistance to customers who are genuinely struggling. I believe that a reconsideration of my case and a willingness to work with me to find a suitable solution would not only be in my best interest but also align with ethical and responsible lending practices. I am grateful for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau 's commitment to safeguarding consumer rights and promoting fairness within the financial industry. I look forward to a prompt resolution of this matter and appreciate any support you can provide in facilitating a productive dialogue between myself and Capital One. Thank you for your attention to this pressing issue. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any further information or documentation from my end.

Issue: Closing an account
Subissue: Funds not received from closed account
Consumer Complaint: Capital One Bank locked my entire account ( both my main checking account and several savings accounts ) on XX/XX/. This was under their assumption of suspicious activity. When I contacted them regarding this and provided them with full details on the issue, they said that the account was locked and my case is being investigated. I was asked how long it would take as at that time, my husband and I were preparing for a week long trip to XXXX and had kept all our savings ( emergency funds and short-term savings as well as long-term ) in the Capital One Bank account XXXX They could not provide me with an exact estimate but would roughly take a month to resolve depending on the case complexity. As you can see, over 7 MONTHS have passed and through following up DAILY with customer service on when my accounts will be close and when I would be receiving my close out checks, I have managed to receive most of my funds back. All thanks to me however as I was consonantly following up and having to correct customer representatives as each person was providing me with different information regarding my case and my account. Now, the final account which is my main checking account is still on hold. It carries over {$26000.00} and it has been long overdue for this account to be closed. I have asked the bank several times to RE-SEND the wire transfer that caused all this mess back to the original sender but they refuse to contact them. I am speaking to the original sender every week or so and they have let me know that even they have tried to reach out to Capital Bank via XXXX messaging but Capital One is not responding back. Every time I call customer support, they say they can not do anything until the case is closed and that the original sender needs to ask to re-call the wire transfer. I let Capital One Bank know that they have reached out multiple times asking Capital One Bank to send it back to them but still, no action. I understand if they can not close my account and provide me with these funds due to suspicious activity. But what doesnt make sense is that they refuse to send the money back to its original sender? Why not? They are the ones who sent it to me in the first place. We are both asking Capital One Bank to send back the wire transfer and solve this case once and for all.

Consumer Complaint: My credit report shows a Capitol One credit card with me as an authorized user. At not point did I open, or add myself to this credit account. The balance is {$8800.00}, with a credit limit of {$15000.00}. The card was opened XX/XX/XXXX. The last payment was made in XX/XX/XXXX. The next payment is {$120.00}. The first 6 numbers of the card are, XXXX. I need to be removed from this card as an authorized user, as it is not a true reflection of my debt, and is negatively effecting my credit availability.

Issue: Closing your account
Subissue: Company closed your account
Consumer Complaint: I wrote Capital One on XX/XX/2023 and mailed on XX/XX/2023 requesting to pay off the closed QuickSilver and Walmart cards for removal from credit report ; received response that said I had to call the Customer Service number. I called Customer Service today, XX/XX/2023. I spoke to representative XXXX, id # XXXX, and requested a letter/email stating " once/if the account was paid in full the account would be removed from my credit report ''. XXXX responded that Capital One would remove the account from my credit report ( she said this 3 times ), when my balance was paid in full that a settlement would not be offered. I asked for this in writing because I'm not falling for the trick of you pay, we leave it on the credit report even though we said we'd remove it. When I pressed XXXX for the letter/email, XXXX changed her wording once again stating that when the account is paid I'd receive confirmation. When I pointed out that her wording was changing she became very flustered and tried to interrupt every thing I was saying. She then said something that since I'm not going through a company to do this that Capital One won't negotiate. I stated I will pay the balance in full if I receive the letter, she said " yes ''. Then I asked for the letter again and was told it will be provided once the account is paid.
