Consumer Complaint: I disputed a charge from XX/XX/XXXX for {$67.00} for an order from XXXX XXXX which was never received. I was given a conditional credit on my credit card statement. On XX/XX/XXXX Capital One reversed the conditional credit, apparently indicating that I lost the dispute. Capital One gave me no chance to submit complete information about the dispute. Capital One never told me of the vendor 's response to the dispute. Capital One never gave me a chance to contest the vendor 's claim to the dispute. Capital One never even told me the resolution of the dispute, they just snuck the new charge into my statement calling it a " Purchase Adjustment. ''

Consumer Complaint: My Capital One Venture X card was closed overnight without explanation. I noticed when logging into Capital One that it said This account is Restricted. I called Capital One and they told me my account is in the process of being permanently closed. They refused to provide any information. I have not done anything to violate Capital One policy. They said a letter will be sent to the address on file, but Im not in the United States and therefore can not receive this letter. I was informed my {$390.00} annual fee will be refunded since it has not been 39 days since the fee was charged to my account ( XX/XX/XXXX ), but I did not receive my anniversary XXXX points, I have unused travel credit on capital one travel, and they informed me that they have redeemed my points for XXXX % of the value as statement credit, which I did not agree to. They couldve redeemed as cash back for travel purchases at a minimum since I have plenty of eligible travel purchases. I did some research and can see that this is not an isolated incident. Hundreds if not thousands of people have been the victim of capital one closing their cards without explanation, often just after the card anniversary and payment of annual fee. Before I get emotional and file a claim/arbitration or contact an attorney or investigative news outlet, I want a chance to speak with a member of the executive office of Capital One to confirm if this is a mistake and if my account can be reinstated and if all of the financial damage can be prevented. I find it beyond unreasonable that a credit card company would close a customers account overnight without any notice. I have never made a late payment and have never violated capital one policy.

Consumer Complaint: I deposited a written check on XX/XX/XXXX for the amount of {$7500.00} into my personal CapitalOne checking account. This check was a gift from my step mom ( payor ) and she was giving me access to money she has put aside for some time. The check was filled out properly, and had her unique signature on it. I deposited the check via the mobile app and uploaded photos and was told I would not have access to the funds until XXXX. Two days later on XX/XX/XXXX I received an email from CapitalOne saying that my account was restricted until they could verify my recent account activity. I called the CapitalOne customer service number and was transferred to their protection team. At the end of the first conversation after answering multiple of their questions I was told that CapitalOne decided to not do business with me anymore and will send me any money in my account that was 'deemed ' mine. I had a few other conversations with different representatives on the following days on XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX, in one of those conversations they spoke with the remittor of the check and she verified she wrote it, but the CaptialOne representative said that they needed to know that the payor 's bank ( XXXX ) would honor the check. The payor went to a XXXX branch and spoke to a manager and received a typed letter saying how XXXX has lifted restrictions on her account and they would honor any payments if they were deposited again. When I called CapitalOne to inform them that everything was good on XXXX 's end I was told that it didn't matter, what's done is done, and the investigation was still ongoing with my accounts frozen. On XXXX I emailed a scanned version of the letter from XXXX to CapitalOnes direct email. I got denied for a checking account by multiple other banks due to Capital Ones investigation, and I am worried on how I will be viewed on XXXX. CapitalOne never tried to call or reach out to me prior to them closing my account.

Issue: Problem with a lender or other company charging your account

Consumer Complaint: I mailed roughly XXXX company checks at the local post office in XXXX XXXX, LA on XX/XX/2023 and none of them made it to their intended destination. However XXXX of these checks were cashed for a total of {$260000.00} with a different name/address written on the checks than the original checks. On XX/XX/2023 I got calls from vendors asking about nonpayment. I then looked at the bank records and saw that their checks cleared but after pulling up the image of the checks, I noticed that they were not my checks and had different reciepiant names/address on them. I bank with Capital One and I immediately called them to report the fraud. They opened an internal fraud case and provided me with a case number. I called back several days later and Capital One told me that their fraud team has sent the fraud information to XXXX XXXX, the bank that cashed the checks, and have requested the money be returned to me. Capital One also told me that they have all the information and if they needed anything else that they would call me but that there was no reason to keep calling them because they have told me all they can tell me. They will not tell me the the location of the XXXX XXXX, why these funds were immediately cashed and not put on hold, why their AI wasn't used to see that these were not my checks ( different routing number, different boarders, different wording on the front and back ), or how they didn't catch that my signature was traced because all three signatures are the exact same. Also they could not tell me how this was my fault. I have called back several times, about once a week, and they keep telling me the same thing, that they are waiting on XXXX XXXX to refund the money and that there is nothing else they can tell me. It is now 30 days since Capital One has opened the fraud case and I have still not been refunded the money. I tried calling the local police but they told me that because the checks were stolen from the XXXX XXXX that it is a federal issue and to call the XXXX XXXX. I called the XXXX XXXX and opened a case with them, however they have told me the same thing as Capital One in that they have all the information and there was no reason to keep calling them. If their fraud team needed more information, they would call me. Capital One acknowledges this is fraud and it is obvious the banks failed to do their job to verify the checks but yet they are penalizing me by not refunding me the money. I run a small business and this is really effecting my ability to pay vendors and make payroll.

Consumer Complaint: The balance on the credit cards have been reduced. The credit card providers indicated that the updates on the card balances were sent to the 3 credit reporting agencies however, my card balances haven't been updated and I need my report to reflect a lower credit utilization since I am applying for a mortgage. The delay in updating my balance is also delaying my ability to apply for a new mortgage. If I were 30-day late on any credit card payment, the 3 credit reporting agencies would've immediately update my credit report. I am requesting that the credit card balance on 5 credit cards be updated to reflect the lower amount which will increase my credit score..

The first rep I spoke with was very nice and she did her best to help. Unfortunately, I got transferred to another woman who was rude, disrespectful, unprofessional, and hateful. I asked to be transferred to someone else SEVERAL TIMES and she repeatedly refused to help me with the issue at the rental car desk. I had to cancel the reservation because this woman was so awful. She should not be employed by Capital One. Shes an embarrassment to Capital One

Consumer Complaint: I reported transactions on the credit card that merchant did not provide service for and no subscription was in place. I filed this dispute in good faith to receive refund for these transactions. I am surprised that the credit card company did not go through with the dispute because they wanted additional information from me. I wonder what that means because I have no additional information to provided. The case number I have received this disappointing response from the credit card company are : Case number XXXX for {$7.00} ; XXXX for {$95.00} ; XXXX for {$7.00} and XXXX for {$7.00}. I even requested that they stop further charges coming from XXXX XXXX for {$7.00}, that they refused to do.

Consumer Complaint: I have asked Capital One on several occasions for an explanation as to how they are making the determination that a charge on my account is both legal and legitimate. They have told me numerous things including : we are on your side this is XXXX making this determination ; there is an XXXX address given which validates the charge ; even though a phone scammer obtained your card information fraudulently it is not fraud because you gave them the information. The XXXX address they cite is located in XXXX, a state that I have never been to, and with a hotel receipt can prove was not my location during the time the charge was made. I can also prove the XXXX address is not from my phone, and that my phone was not in communication with that XXXX address at the time of the charge. To Capital One, however, these irrefutable facts are not sufficient enough to have them even so much as ask for further evidence. I find Capital One 's lack of diligence placed on disputed transactions to be a clear indication of their policies designed to produce results that keep transactions in place, no matter how fraudulent, in order to maintain the transaction fees and associated revenue for their shareholders. On XX/XX/XXXX, I was tricked into believing that a number on XXXX was for XXXX. Placing a call to that number, a woman answered by presenting herself as XXXX XXXX Assistance Department. Through her deceptive persona, she easily obtained my credit card and personal information, as a longtime member I fully trust XXXX. After our phone call, I received a text message from a company called XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX with a receipt for a XXXX purchase. I was not familiar with this company and gave them no authorization to run my credit card, and on XXXX occasions I made immediate phone attempts demanding a refund, each time they placed me on hold. During this same time, I called Capital One to flag this transaction as illegitimate, and was told that I need to wait for the charge to post first. On XX/XX/23, after the charge posted, I engaged Capital One to have the fraudulent charge removed from my account, and they told me I had to file a dispute. I provided Capital One with a detailed record of what took place. Capital 1 sent me a reversal of things after obtaining records from the merchant. These records were clearly filled with lies and fabrications. I responded to the merchants claims with significant evidence, including phone records, text receipts, and hotel bills that documented many of the XXXX XXXX claims as lies and fabrications, including, that the XXXX address used to process the charge was not mine and was in a completely different State than I was in at the time ; that the claim that I was provided with a payment link including terms and conditions to process the sale never happened ; and that I never received any good or service related to the charge. Capital One, an hour after receiving the XXXX pages of documentation I submitted on XX/XX/23, closed my case citing that I did not provide evidence. I placed a phone call to Capital One on XX/XX/23 to inquire about the decision, and a representative cited the reasoning for their decision. Specifically, he told me that I did not submit a statement to the fact that I did not receive any good or service, nor did I submit a statement that I was not provided terms and conditions of the sale prior to the charge being made. I explained to him that in fact, my letter does contain those exact statements and point him to the XXXX and XXXX sentences of my signed letter. He did not care what I had to say about the issue, and made it clear that despite the basis for their decision making absolutely no sense he would not be doing anything to reverse the decision and he would not be providing me with any further details that actually do make sense. The morning of XX/XX/23, I called back to Capital One to see if I could speak to a supervisor in hopes of gaining more clarity around their decision. I spent over an hour on the phone with a person named XXXX, who also gave me no information about their decision that makes any sense. He did try several times to provide me details from the XXXXXXXX XXXX documentation as a legitimate basis, however, each time I pointed him to areas from my documents that directly refute what he was saying. For example, he brought up the XXXX address as the reason, and when I asked him where the XXXX address location was, he gave a location in the State of XXXX I directed him to the evidence I provided, proving that I was in XXXXXXXX XXXX over XXXX miles away at that time. His response was " well I am not sure about the technical stuff '', and then went on to tell me that there is nothing I can do to overcome the XXXXXXXX XXXX documentation. I asked to speak to the person who made this determination, because I wanted to speak with the person who apparently does know about the technical stuff, as this was clearly used as evidence to support the claim, when it is actually irrefutable evidence to deny the charge. He responded that supervisors like him are the ones that make these determinations, and refused to connect me with anyone including the person who evaluated the situation and made the determination, and also refused to give me any clarity as to how Capital One is allowing him to use XXXX address information as a basis to validate a charge, but then when faced with the fact that the XXXX address is actually proves the opposite, he is able to respond by stating that he is not good with the technical stuff. I believe that I am being forced to accept a fraudulent charge because of poorly trained employees of Capital One making decisions they are not equipped to properly scrutinize and then covering up their poor judgement for self preservation of their jobs. However, if this lack of diligence extends beyond my specific situation, then Capital One is engaging in policies in an effort to earn revenue off of fraud. Either way, I should not be held to simply accept a fraudulent charge under these circumstances.
